The Secret of Luoshu and Houtian Bagua By Cahaya Harapan (online fengshui course)

Houtian Bagua (Later Heaven Bagua) is used to explain, four seasons as macrocosmos and four elements as microcosmos or fengshui (as above, so below). Superimposing Luoshu into Houtian Bagua, expand the meaning of Bagua into a complete model.

There are 8 Gua, and divided into 4 Gua, represent four seasons, and inside each season there is Yang and Yin nature, refer to Dao De chapter 42, “… all things carry Yin and embrace Yang...” .

Cardinal points, moving clockwise become Yang Yin, ordinal points moving anticlockwise become Yin Yang.

SEASON GUA & SHU GAN ZHI DIRECTION ELEMENT Summer Li, Kun (9,2) Bing Ding Si Wu Wei South Fire Winter Kan, Gen (1,8) Ren Gui Hai Zi Chou North Spring Zhen, Xun (3,4) Jia Yi Yin Mao Chen East Wood Autumn Dui, Qian (7,6) Geng Xin You Xu West Metal

Each number of Luoshu carry its own element, namely : 1 is Water, 2 is Earth, 3 is Wood, 4 is Wood, 6 is Metal, 7 is Metal and 8 is Earth. Odd is Heavenly Numeral, therefore Yang, and Even is Earthly Numeral, therefore Yin. Why there are two Earth elements ? Some think, Houtian Bagua and Luoshu show unbalance nature. Do you see unbalanced nature from the above diagram ?

The function of Earth element, 2-Kun and 8-Gen is to show, a transition state from extreme Yang and extreme Yin, before it starts to grow other seasons (elements). Bagua classify four seasons into 2 parts, namely Yin seasons (Autumn & Winter) and Yang seasons (Spring & Summer). Earth element is the mystical element (https://wujitu.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/fengshui/) where Yang and Yin born. 8- Gen is paired with 1-Kan, Yin nature, and 2-Kun is paired with 9-Li, Yang nature. Earth has nature. The symbol of modern Yin Yang match Bagua perfectly. 9-Li & 2-Kun as one group, from the extreme Yang (Li Gua), Yin start to grow inside 2-Kun (black small dot). 1-Kan & 8-Gen as one group, from the extreme Yin (Kan Gua), Yang start to grow (white small dot). What a beautiful model, it exist for thousand years, since Huang Di dynasty (2697-2597 BCE). Why Huang Di dynasty ? Because Jia Zi calendar invention. What is the co-relation between Luoshu-Bagua model with Tian Gan (Ten Stems) and Di Zhi (Twelve Earthly Branches) ?

Let me tell you another secret. Si-Wu-Wei (Fire Frame, Summer Season), Si is Fire, Wu is Fire and Wei is Earth. Fire and Earth as one group, just like 9-Li & 2-Kun as one group. Hai-Zi-Chou (Water Frame, Winter Season), Hai is Water, Zi is Water and Chou is Earth. Water and Earth as one group, just like 1- Kan & 8-Gen as one group. Di Zhi (Twelve Earthly Branches) shares same model with Bagua and Luoshu. I don’t know which one was born earlier, there is evidence from oracle bone, Shang Dynasty (1557-1027 BCE), show Tian Gan & Di Zhi. But the legend said, Houtian Bagua and Luoshu born at Yu Dynasty (2205- 2097 BCE). If the legend is true, than Di Zhi follow Luoshu and Bagua.

4-Xun (Spring) 9-Li (Summer) 2-Kun (Summer) Chen Xun Si Bing Wu Ding Wei Kun Shen

Based on Luoshu, Houtian Bagua, Tiangan and Dizhi, 24 mountains was born. Inside Li Gua there are Bing Wu Ding. Cardinal points moving clockwise become Yang Yin, therefore Bing is Yang and Wu is Yin. And how about Ding ? It follows Yin nature of the last sequence. Inside Kun Gua there are Wei Kun Shen. Ordinal points moving anticlockwise become Yin Yang, therefore Wei is Yin and Kun is Yang. And Shen follows Yang nature of the last sequence.

Bing Wu Ding is a part of Summer season (Fire) just like its parent division, Li Gua and Wei Kun is a part of Summer season (Fire) just like its parent division, Kun Gua. It follow the rule of 9-Li and 2-Kun as one group. How about Shen ? Fire carry Earth element to born Metal element. Shen is a starting point of Autumn season (Metal), and from 3 Harmony point of view, Shen born Water (Yin nature). Other Gua follow the same rule.

All Yin numerals 2,4,6 and 8, is a place to start other season or element to grow. “Cultivation of Jing (Yin nature) into , and cultivation Qi into Shen (Yang nature)”, Tu by Chen Tuan. You can apply the same principle in fengshui.
