1935, Ten medallions showing places in Normandy were originally decorating the monumental entrance doors to the first-class dining room on the Normandie 1939, At the outbreak of the war, she was interned and remained moored in 1941, December, The U.S. Coast Guard took possession of Normandie under the right of angary; she was renamed SS Lafayette and the plan was to transform her into a ; furniture and decoration were evacuated Further history of the medallions: c. 1944, The doors were acquired by Father Mansour Stephen, in charge of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Brooklyn. An art and antiques connoisseur, he had them rearranged to fit the openings for the new church dedicated in 1944; two doors were created, the one on Henry Street had six medallions, the one on Remsen Street had four medallions. Mansour Stephen also acquired the Captain's table from the Normandie (still in usage) (Further history of Ocean Liner Normandie/SS Lafayette: 1942, February 9, A fire takes place during the conversion efforts, the water poured by the firemen makes the ship capsize 1945, France refuses to salvage her 1946-1948, Normandie/SS Lafayette is demolished)
