Theatre Company, Precious Cargo, want to work with you to create a piece of theatre that will take place between South Shields Central Library and the Market Place. We’re looking for researchers, writers, actors and general volunteers to help develop and stage the piece. Precious Cargo will be developing the project throughout September, October and November with workshop dates to be announced. Young Writers Group Are you aged 14-19 year olds and want to develop your writing skills, share your work with others and develop your original short fiction? Award-winning writer James Whitman is leading our new young writers group on Wednesdays from October. Participants will also have the chance to see their work published and launched at a special event. Sessions start Wednesday 7th October 5pm-7pm at South Shields Central Library, £3 per session. Celebrate National Poetry Day with South Tyneside Libraries South Shields Central Library. FREE. Join Kate Fox our Poet in Residence at the Central Library for a night of fabulous poetry including an original poem commissioned by South Tyneside Libraries. Kate Fox is a Northern stand up poet, writer and BBC Radio 4 regular with a passion for facilitating creative writing, 2 performance and thinking. Kate will be joined by budding poets of all ages from across the Borough who will perform their own poems which they have worked on with Kate. Refreshment will be provided. We’ve been photographing South Shields Central Library throughout 2015 with professional photographers, library staff and user groups taking part… and now it’s your turn to get involved. We’re holding a Photography Open Day, giving you the chance to come along and take photos of the library – with our staff and photographer, Jo Hislop, on hand to give you tips and hints as you take part. Photographs taken throughout the year will be selected to be exhibited throughout the Central Library. Exhibition Launch: Thursday 12th November 5pm-6pm.
