Rodrigues Steps out of the Shadows, Al-Attiyah Rams Home His Advantage
Iquique, 9th of January, 2015 Rodrigues steps out of the shadows, Al-Attiyah rams home his advantage Discreet since the start in Buenos Aires, Helder Rodrigues is still capable of a major feat, as he demonstrated with his five previous stage victories on the Dakar. This figure moved up to six this evening in Iquique, after a great day for the Portuguese rider. Nasser Al-Attiyah made it victory number three and continues to enjoy a dream start since Buenos Aires, though the threat of Giniel de Villiers still remains. Ultra-consistent and ambitious, Helder Rodrigues has always fallen short when looking for outright victory on the Dakar, despite two podium finishes (in 2011 and 2012) The South American rally-raid did not seem to be smiling on him either in 2015, with so far a 10th place in the general standings which is below his expectations. However, after a 318-km special perfectly negotiated this Friday by the Portuguese rider, he now climbs to 6th in the general standings, 2’20’’ behind Toby Price who was the runner-up today. The Australian, participating in his first Dakar, demonstrated a good turn of speed and also navigational talent. Paulo Gonçalves is used to good performances on the Dakar and finally clawed back time on the Barreda/Coma duo, finishing just 1’42’’ behind the day’s winner. The incisive Honda rider strengthened his third place in the general standings, waiting to ambush the men ahead. Local boy Pablo Quintanilla is also ready to take advantage of any mistakes and finished fourth in Iquique. -

Beneath the Gentle Veneer Lies a Wealth of Wisdom A
Media Information BENEATH THE GENTLE VENEER LIES A WEALTH OF WISDOM A wealth of motorsport knowledge and experience underlies the blithesome Juan Möhr, who’s Cross Country accomplishments over the past 24-years include the South African regional and national championships, the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup and the character-building Dakar Rally. The cheerful Möhr started racing in regional events with his uncle Max Möhr in 1996 and has participated in 85 SA Cross Country (SACCS) events since 2002, placing him amongst the most experienced navigators in the current SACCS series. “Uncle Max was a motorsport devotee and highly respected by his peers, a truly big hearted man but also a hard task master. One of the first lessons I was taught before I could even start racing was, if you want to play the game - know the rules. Something I have never forgotten,” Juan said. Juan’s formative years included, building from scratch, a Class B Special Vehicle which Max and he won the 1996 Barberspan 400 regional race in, on his 19th birthday and in their first outing. The following year the pair won the Transvaal Regional Championship and placed second in the popular Total Super Series short circuit challenge. In 1997 Möhr was employed by the charismatic Richard Schilling, a multiple Cross Country champion, former president of Motorsport South Africa and the FIA Cross Country Commission and a current board member of both organisations, to build and prepare his race winning vehicles. 1999 saw Möhr step up to a Class A Raceco, which he also prepared, with longstanding friend Mark Corbett with their best outing for the year being a third place in the Lesotho Roof of Africa. -

Hello Chile! Three-O-One Masters the Andes, Desert and Dunes the Quotes
Media information 2013 Dakar Rally – #14 Hello Chile! Three-O-One masters the Andes, Desert and Dunes Copiapó, 17th January 2013 After an extremely demanding 2013 Dakar Rally stage which crossed the border between Argentina and Chile, Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz can give each other a deserved pat on the back. On the 13 th “Dakar” day, the South African and his German co-driver mastered 319 stage kilometres featuring not only the event’s second crossing of the Andes, but the barren heat of the infamous Atacama Desert plus around 100 kilometres of extremely fine sand and loose dunes before reaching the finish. The reward for the 2009 “Dakar” winners: Yet another crucial step towards the “Dakar” finish in Santiago de Chile, a shortening of their deficit to leader Stéphane Peterhansel in the X-raid-Mini and simultaneous extension of their lead to 40:45 minutes over Nani Roma/Michel Périn, who displaced their X- raid-Mini team-mates Leonid Novitskiy/Konstantin Zhiltsov for third place. De Villiers and von Zitzewitz enjoyed a trouble-free run on the twelfth “Dakar” stage “even if the route was tougher than we thought it would be”, as the former put it. The South African-German co-production made up good time on the key section, preventing Peterhansel from pulling further away. Currently a deficit of 50:21 minutes separates Three-O-One from the lead, with 569 stage kilometres still facing “Ginny”, “Schnietz” and their Toyota Hilux. Friday’s route to La Serena consists of a tough, 441-kilometre test.
