LCPS Kicks Off Vision 20/20 Strategic Planning Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) launched its Vision 20/20 strategic plan process with a stakeholder work group meeting on December 16th at the School Administrative Offices in Ashburn. At the outset of the meeting, LCPS Superintendent Dr. Eric Williams told stakeholders selected for the session that the School Board has formally commissioned the creation of a strategic plan. This plan is a roadmap to take the school division to the year 2020 and beyond. “During the interview process, the School Board said to me ‘We are incredibly proud of the great work that our students and staff are doing. However, we want to take it to the next level.’ That’s what today is all about.” Williams said the Loudoun community not only wants to know how it can keep the already great things that are happening intact, but how it can move forward. Part of the Vision 20/20 strategic plan and an outcome of the stakeholder workgroup, Williams added, is identifying competencies LCPS students should master for success in the real world and in their future. “What do we want our graduates to know and be able to do?” Ken Kay, the CEO of EdLeader 21, is the facilitator for the stakeholder meetings. (The final stakeholder meetings will be held on February 3rd and February 24th.) EdLeader 21 is a national network of school and district leaders focused on integrating the 4 C’s (critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity) into education. “This is a very positive way of engaging the community in what education ought to be about,” Kay told the stakeholders at the December 16th meeting. “We’ve created a professional learning community of superintendents and their leadership teams; people who are dedicated to figuring out what the new model of education is and how you make it work, how you actually make it happen.” The stakeholder workgroup, which numbered 60 people, was selected because of the diversity of viewpoints it brought to the discussion. The goal was to be inclusive to ensure different perspectives were represented to provide input and answers to the question “What should the LCPS graduate need to know and be able to do?” Members of the stakeholder group include: Dr. Sam Adamo, LCPS executive director of planning & legislative services Allison Alison, social science chair, Rock Ridge High School David Arbogast, LCPS English specialist David Barnes, Parent & National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Karla Blasquez, parent and parent liaison for Sterling Middle School Bill Brazier, LCPS supervisor of social science and global studies Dr. Terri Breeden, LCPS assistant superintendent for instruction Owen Brown, business, KTSi Leigh Burden, LCPS assistant superintendent for business and financial services Wayde Byard, LCPS public information officer Amy Carroll, School Board nominee/parent Yvonne Chen, Gifted Education Advisory Committee Suyi Chuang, LCPS math supervisor Dr. Rich Contartesi, assistant superintendent of technology services Andrew Davis, principal, Round Hill Elementary Michelle Detweiler, School Board nominee/teacher Melinda DiPrinzio, parent Jennifer Efigenio, science teacher, Seneca Ridge Middle School Mike Engley, business, Apple Federal Credit Union Educational Foundation Laura Fears, Loudoun County YMCA Wendall Fisher, LCPS outreach supervisor Jodi Folta, Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) John Forcier, civic group, Daybreak Rotary Club Kwasi Fraser, mayor of Purcellville Wagner Grier, principal, Monroe Technology Center Paula Harper, executive director of program development & management, George Washington University Tim Hemstreet, Loudoun County administrator Eric Hornberger, chairman, Loudoun County School Board Tony Howard, president & CEO, Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Tag Greason, member, Virginia House of Delegates Tara Helkowski, LCPS technology resource specialist Dr. Kim Hough, LCPS assistant superintendent for personnel services Zerell Johnson-Welch, parent, Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee (MSAAC) Ginger Kave, LCPS coordinator mentor & coaching Dr. Mary Kealy, LCPS assistant superintendent for pupil services Kirsten Langhorne, Community Foundation for Loudoun & Northern Fauquier Counties Patsy Layer, Loudoun Education Association Julie Leidig, provost, Northern Virginia Community College John Lody, LCPS director of diagnostic and prevention services Michael Lo Presti, Loudoun School-Business Partnership Executive Council Devon MacGoy, Potomac Falls High School student School Board representative Jared Melvin, Loudoun Youth Bernard Mustafa, business, Pleasant Valley Business Solutions/LEF Trustee Ken Peebles, LCPS Distribution Center supply coordinator Michael Pierson, LCPS supervisor of music Victor Powell, assistant principal, Park View High School Laura Rahn, language arts teacher, Blue Ridge Middle School Tobin Ruff, parent Tony Salgado, dean, J.
