DAY 3: LIMA - CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS After our short flight to Cusco we will explore many different archeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Some of which are called Saqsaywaman, Rodadero, Humedal Wayllarqocha, Tambomachay and Pisac. We will also see spectacular views of the Urumbamba River. Tonight we will settle down in Ollantaytambo, the only Inca settlement that has been inhabited since its inception. ITINERARY DAY 4: SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS - OLLANTAYTAMBO Waking up among the gods, we will spend our morning visiting the archeological sites of Ollantaytambo. We will witness the massive Incan Fortress that includes large stone terraces. Next, a 90 minute ride aboard the Vistadome train will take us to Aguas Calientes. Along the way peer outside for incredible views of the Sacred Valley. In the afternoon we will have time for an optional dip in the hot springs. Our evening will be spent in Aguas Calientes. DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU For our fifth day of adventure we will catch an early bus ride (20 minutes) to Machu Picchu. The morning sun will magnify the beauty of the citadel. Our day in the "Lost City of the Incas" will be spiritually awakening as the history here is immeasurable. The majority of our day will be spent hiking around the ruins. For those willing and able we will have the option to hike the Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain later in the day. In the evening we will return to Aguas Calientes. ITINERARY DAY 6: MORAY - MARAS - CHINCHEROS - CUSCO Our morning will consist of riding the Vistadome train ride back to Ollantaytambo. From there we will take a private car to Maras. The hour drive follows the Urumbaba River and passes even more ruins. Once in Maras we will visit the ruins of Moray. These Incan sites consist of concentric depressions measuring 30 m at their deepest. From Maras we will drive to the Chincheros District. Known to the Incas as the "Birthplace of the Rainbow," the old town of Chincheros is a small Andean Indian Village. Before our drive back into Cusco we will see a demonstration of cultural and historical agricultural practices. Be sure to soak up the our final views of the Sacred Valley. DAY 7: CUSCO Our first time in Cusco was spent witnessing ancient Incan ruins, this time we will be able to immerse ourselves into more recent architecture. In the heart of the former capital of the Incas we will tour the Plaza de Armas, Cusco Cathedral, Iglesia De La Santo Domingo and the Iglesia De La Compania De Jesus.

Penny Harvey - University of Manchester The Historical Baroque in Contemporary Peru - Illusion and Enthrallment The main square of Cusco was unusually busy and more unusual still the huge doors of the Cathedral were open, people pouring out from what must have been an important mass. Taking advantage of a rare opportunity to visit this building outside of the normal restrictions imposed by the tourist trade, I ducked in through a side entrance just as the main doors were slammed shut again. It was years since I‟d been inside and I‟d forgotten the sheer scale and intricacy of the space. The Cathedral over-awes as intended. Throughout the Continent these huge, ambitious spaces were of central importance in marking Spanish presence, in imposing Catholicism, in erasing the presence and influence of previous Gods and divine rulers, and paradoxically in offering people some kind of solace. This Cathedral was no exception. To build it the Spanish had destroyed an Inka palace/ceremonial site which nevertheless provided the foundations for the new building. They also brought stone from the fortress of Sacsayhuaman subjugating the very fabric of the Inka imperial capital in its public conversion to Catholicism. Construction had begun in 1560 but was not completed until 1664. The building itself presents the non-coherence of architectural style that is characteristic of many of these mega projects that took over a century to be finalised. In this case the Renaissance facade constrasts with the interior, funished over a century later, by then exemplifying the colonial Baroque with its intricate gold and silver altars, carved stone work and the world famous collection of paintings of what became known as the Cusco school.

    2014 Press release 03 June 2014 Prime Minister's Office REMINDER: German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Harpsund On Monday and Tuesday 9-10 June, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will host a high-level meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Harpsund. The European Union needs to improve job creation and growth now that the EU is gradually recovering from the economic crisis. At the same time, the EU is facing institutional changes with a new European Parliament and a new European Commission taking office in the autumn. Sweden, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands are all reform and growth-oriented countries. As far as Sweden is concerned, it will be important to emphasise structural reforms to boost EU competitiveness, strengthen the Single Market, increase trade relations and promote free movement. These issues will be at the centre of the discussions at Harpsund. Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, like Sweden, are on the World Economic Forum's list of the world's ten most competitive countries. It is natural, therefore, for these countries to come together to compare experiences and discuss EU reform. To make sure, the grandson of General Prats, Pinochet’s predecessor, spat on the former dictator’s corpse as it lay in state in December 2006, revoltingly bloated as the result of an addiction to chocolate and other Ygoodies. Prats certainly inherited the attitude of his grandfather, who was blown up in his car in Buenos Aires on Pinochet’s orders, together with his wife—a cowardly crime typical of the dictator’s treacherous nature. The Prats family well remember how the Pinochets would visit them frequently while grandfather Carlos was still commander-in-chief, always showing a meek and servile disposition. Still, the younger Prats needed courage for this final gesture, as Pinochet continues to attract the fervour of a rich and hate-filled—if ageing—Santiago mob. Led by the rightist parties, they gave vociferous expression to this on the occasion of the funeral. As usual, this was under the protection of the army, shame- fully authorized by the Bachelet government to render final honours to its former Commander-in-Chief. In a gesture of minimum dignity, the President herself refused to honour him as a head of state. She had suffered prison and torture under Pinochet, together with her mother, after her father, General Bachelet, had already been brutally murdered— paying in this way for his loyalty to President Allende. The military pomp was all the more grotesque given that Pinochet had spent his final days under house arrest for his crimes against humanity, and was facing trial for an embezzlement of public funds without prec- edent in Chilean history.

Using a transdisciplinary approach, this investigation not only analyses Richard's series of theoretical, political, and essayistic experimentations, it also explores Chile’s artistic production (particularly in the visual arts) and political- cultural processes over the past 45 years. In this sense, it is an examination, on the one hand, of how her critical work and thought emerged in a social context characterized by historical breaks and transformations and, on the other, of how these biographical experiences and critical-theoretical experiments derived from a specific intellectual practice that has marked her professional profile: crítica cultural.
