    RAINER LASKOWSKI Die Abschnittsbefestigung auf dem Kitzenhardt bei Bad Honnef, Rhein-Sieg-Kreis Im Jahre 1962 wurde im Rheinischen Landesmuseum Bonn ein ältereranonymer Hinweis auf­ gegriffen, der zur Wiederentdeckung einer wichtigen Wallanlage führte. 'Nach einer andeuten­ den Bleistiftsignatur“ auf einem alten Meßtischblatt wurde im Gelände ein ’Ringabschnittswall“ festgestellt und erstmals beschrieben1. Die Wallanlage liegt auf einem Sporn ca. 1500 m östlich der Ortsmitte von Bad Honnef im Staatsforst Siegburg, 80 m über der Sohle des vom Ohbach durchflossenen Schmelztales. Der Sporn liegt auf der östlichen Talseite und ist von Ost nach West gerichtet. Er fällt im Norden, Westen und Süden steil ab, im Osten geht er langsam ansteigend in den breiten Rücken des Wingsberges über. Er wird im Norden und Westen vom Ohbach umflossen und Kitzenhardt genannt. Die Befestigung besteht aus einem Vorwall, dem Abschnittswall mit vorgelagerter Berme und Graben sowie einer weiteren, randlichen Befestigung entlang des Innenraumes. Demnach handelt es sich um eine Abschnittsbefestigung oder - genauer - um eine sog. Ringab­ schnittsbefestigung2. Sie wurde im Jahre 1979 erstmals vermessen (Abb. 1). Der Vorwall liegt am Fuße des Wingsberges, 300 m östlich der Hauptanlage. Er sperrt den Bergrücken bei206 m über NN auf einer Breite von insgesamt 80 m ab. Der Wall zieht zunächst quer über den Rük- ken des Spornes 30 m weit in südsüdöstlicher Richtung und biegt an der Hangkante nach Süd­ südwesten um. Im Hang selbst ist er noch 50 m weit feststellbar. Die Wallbreite beträgt 6 m, die Wallhöhe 1 m. Vor dem Wall hegt ein 5 m breiter und 1 m tiefer Graben (Abb. 2, Profil A - B).

Tertiäre Vulkanite im Siebengebirge am Rhein Das Siebengebirge liegt topographisch betrachtet rechtsrheinisch südöstlich von Bonn, östlich Königswinter, südlich Siegburg und nördlich Bad Honnef. Es bildet eine auffällige Berglandschaft mit dem Ölberg als höchstem Gipfel, etwa 460 m NN, im Kontrast zum sich hier nach Norden weitenden Rheintal am Übergang von Mittel- zu Niederrhein, mit Höhen der Aue bei etwa 60 m NN, und zu den Hochflächen des linksrheinischen Drachenfelser Ländchens zwischen 180 und 260 m NN, erst im Ahrtal finden sich ähnliche Höhenunterschiede zwischen Talboden um 80 und Hochflächen um 500 m NN. Die von steilen Abhängen umgebenen Gipfel des Siebengebirges, sowohl die sieben Hauptberge als auch zahlreiche weitere etwas weniger markante Erhebungen, waren zum Teil von Burgen bestanden, so etwa Drachenfels, Wolkenburg, Löwenburg, sowie Rosenau, teilweise sind es befestigte kirchliche Anlagen gewesen wie am Petersberg. Die Architektur und Geschichte der Burgen bzw. deren Ruinen im Siebengebirge, Drachenfelser Ländchen und Ahrtal ist beschrieben u.a. bei (OTTENDORF-SIMROCK & MEHS o.a.), (LOSSE 2008). It was formed in 1946 as a merger of the provinces of North Rhine and Westphalia, both formerly parts of Prussia, and the Free State of Lippe. Its capital is Düsseldorf; the largest city is Cologne. Four of Germany's ten largest cities—Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Essen— are located within the state, as well as the second largest metropolitan area on the European continent, Rhine-Ruhr. NRW is a very diverse state, with vibrant business centers, bustling cities and peaceful natural landscapes. The state is home to one of the strongest industrial regions in the world and offers one of the most vibrant cultural landscapes in Europe. Salient Features 1. Geography: The state covers an area of 34,083 km2 and shares borders with Belgium in the southwest and the Netherlands in the west and northwest. It has borders with the German states of Lower Saxony to the north and northeast, Rhineland-Palatinate to the south and Hesse to the southeast. Thinking of North Rhine-Westphalia also means thinking of the big rivers, of the grassland, the forests, the lakes that stretch between the Eifel hills and the Teutoburg Forest range. The most important rivers flowing at least partially through North Rhine-Westphalia include: the Rhine, the Ruhr, the Ems, the Lippe, and the Weser.

Large parts of Central Europe have experienced exhumation in Late Cretaceous to Paleogene time. Previous 10 studies mainly focused on thrusted basement uplifts to unravel magnitude, processes and timing of exhumation. This study provides, for the first time, a comprehensive thermochronological dataset from mostly Permo-Triassic strata exposed adjacent to and between the basement uplifts in central Germany, comprising an area of at least some 250-300 km across. Results of apatite fission track and (U-Th)/He analyses on >100 new samples reveal that (i) km-scale exhumation affected the entire region, (ii) thrusting of basement blocks like the Harz Mountains and the Thuringian Forest focused in the Late 15 Cretaceous (about 90-70 Ma) while superimposed domal uplift of central Germany is slightly younger (about 75-55 Ma), and (iii) large parts of the domal uplift experienced removal of 3 to 4 km of Mesozoic strata. Using spatial extent, magnitude and timing as constraints suggests that thrusting and crustal thickening alone can account for no more than half of the domal uplift.
