The five members of the outfit have invited four additional Tmusicians to add some overtones to their music exclusively for the unplugged series. Re- arranged and unrecorded, it will be a debut of a different sort for the songs. “We all met at Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory and decided to form a hard rock band,” says Manjil Bikram K.C., the guitarist. Accompanying him is Bibhor Kayastha on vocals, while Pratik Baniya, Anuj Shrestha, and Sajan Shakya are on the bass, drums, and guitars respectively. The additional musicians for the performance include Suyog Sotang on keyboards and Mani Raj Rasailee on the violins, with Anisha Maharjan and Anupama Shakya providing backing vocals. All of them are regulars at KJC. “Our band was approached for the show after the organizers heard our demos,” says Manjil, who first met the Kripa Unplugged team when he dropped by Kripa Drishya studio in Teku during one of his recording sessions. The five songs that make up Majipa’s Kripa Unplugged setlist are Bujha Mann Ka Kura, Bagmati, Pahilo Ra Antim, Birsideu, and Mukti, which was written in memory of the vocalist’s deceased friend. Bagmati is about the sorry state of the river, while Pahilo Ra Antim and Birsideu are love songs. All songs were composed by Bibhor, besides Bujha Mann Ka Kura, which was written by K.C. Majipa is appreciative of been given a chance to perform on national television. “Kripa Unplugged is a good platform for musicians of all levels,” says Manjil. “They have successfully introduced something pretty unique in order to uplift the local music scene.” Watch Kripa Unplugged on Kantipur Television on Mondays at 9pm. What you can do? Organizations under FTGN mostly rely on foreign clients for sustenance since expats and tourists are the primary buyers of Nepalese goods. Despite the fine quality of the products, Nepali buyers are reluctant to purchase local goods citing high prices. What we need to realize is that these products are mostly hand-made and their cost of production is high, but, in return, the quality is unmatched. It became expensive for you to work with Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, and Om Puri, whom you launched. Did this ever bother you? Not at all. Naturally, when they are successful, you have to compete for their time with money. It’s unfair to them because their earnings have gone up too; they are in the film to market the film and to earn more money for the film.

Women’s issues have been central to many of your films. Why so? Living in Indian society, you become conscious of this. Either you go along with everybody or you say this is not right. magine you had an idea that could change the world. You think about it, weave it in your head, and nurture it. It becomes your brainchild, your creation, and you think of all the possibilities that the idea can bring. INow imagine you never implemented this idea, never let it become a reality. Would it still be worth it? Ideas aren’t meant to be kept secret, they should be allowed to grow, and that’s what Idea Studio believes. Initiated by ChildReach Nepal, funded by UNICEF, and supported by KUSOM with Meeting Point as media partners covering the whole event as a reality show, Idea Studio is a business incubation center that has collected ideas from all over Nepal in order to develop the ones that are the most innovative, to help turn them into viable ventures with hopes of achieving investment funds.
