Recommendations Local Pedestrian Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee 19 April 2018
It is recommended that the Committee endorse the following temporary road closures associated with the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon on Sunday 20 May 2018 from 4am to 11.30am subject to the following conditions:
(A) The Applicant must comply with the temporary road closure conditions as stipulated in Schedule A of this Agenda.
(B) The Applicant must contact the NSW Police to discuss deployment of user pay police for the event.
(C) The Applicant must contact the City’s Venue Management Unit to discuss the event.
(D) The Applicant must provide a telephone number of the supervisor responsible for the proposed event and include contact details in the notification letters to be distributed to affected stakeholders.
(E) The Applicant must notify the Millers Point and Pyrmont Resident Action Group of the event and carry out a letterbox drops to all affected residents in the area.
(F) The Applicant must specifically notify the Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney Opera House, Pier One Hotel, Old Holiday Inn Hotel, Park Hyatt Hotel, Sydney Theatre Company, Walsh Bay Finance, The Observatory Hotel, Channel Seven building, Jones Bay Wharf and The Star at least three weeks before the proposed event.
(G) The Applicant must advise relevant car share operators if their respective vehicles need to be temporarily relocated as a result of the proposed temporary road closures and Special Event Clearways at least two weeks prior to the event.
(H) The Applicant must provide a telephone number of the supervisor responsible for the proposed event and include contact details in the notification letters to be distributed to affected stakeholders.
(I) The Applicant must contact Sydney Buses and arrange and pay for the rerouting of bus services around the closures, the temporary relocation of bus stops and any additional staff required.

Background
Fairfax Publications Pty Ltd has applied for various temporary road closures associated with the annual Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon event on Sunday 20 May 2018 from 4am to 11.30am.
The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is a Category 1 State Significant Event.
The NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet’s (DPC) Community Engagement and Events Division has established a Working Group with representatives from the NSW Police, Roads and Maritime Services, Sydney Coordination Office, Transport Management Centre, Sydney Buses, Emergency Services, Royal Botanic Gardens and Doman Trust, City of Sydney and Event Organisers. The Working Group has reviewed the transport impact of the event and raised no objections.
The Transport Management Centre has assessed the Traffic Management Plan (TMP), Traffic Control Plan (TCP) and Road Occupancy Licences (ROL) for the event and provided approval. Local Pedestrian Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee 19 April 2018
Comments
The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon is an annual event that requires the temporary closure of City streets and traffic detours around the event route on Sunday 20 May 2018.
The event will start at 6.15am in College Street and run through the northern part of the City and Pyrmont via the course detailed above. Closed roads will be progressively re-opened from around 8.30am.

Note: Local access to Pyrmont Street south of Quarry Street will be via traffic control at Harris Street and Quarry Street.
Access is for vehicles southbound on Harris Street making a left turn into Quarry Street only.
Local access to Gipps Street, Experiment Street, the Harris Street Car Park and the Pyrmont Street resident underground car parks will be via traffic control on Harris Street at Allen Street however no vehicular access will be permitted between 6.30am and 8.30am.
Traffic on the Western Distributor wanting to access the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be diverted via the Bathurst Street exit and can turn left into Harbour Street. Traffic on the Western Distributor requiring access to the City North will be diverted via Bathurst St and Kent St.
Access to the Sydney Harbour Bridge northbound is via Harbour St and Clarence St.
The Western Distributor westbound is only accessible from Druitt Street or the Cross City Tunnel. Traffic leaving the Sydney Harbour Bridge southbound on the Western Distributor will be diverted onto Harbour Street, Kent Street then Druitt Street on ramp back onto the Western Distributor.
