[uhn-nis] To break away from the masses. Challenge. Freely used to release, exemplify, or intensify a force or quality. To engage, connect, and explore unique places, oneself, and with others on a most uncommon adventure.

unique. 3 “Exceeded expectations. Thanks to the crew—you are fabulous. Only downside? My cheeks hurt from smiling. Awesome, fantastic!” -Nancy D; Silver Lake, NH (Alaska 2016)

Small Ships, BIG Adventures

A crew member shows you to your cabin. After a short time getting situated, gain your bearings with a spin around the ship. Then head to the lounge for a glass of bubbly and to meet your shipmates. Once on board, transplanting yourself and settling in is a snap.

And you’re off! Headed to where the big ships can’t go—in more ways than one. Be sure to pack a go-with-the-flow attitude. There are set itineraries, but Mother Nature leads the way and in-the-moment changes will happen. No two UnCruise departures are ever the same, and they’re way more personable.

No matter how you travel—with a companion, family, solo, or in a group—adventure, place, and connection are at the heart of your exploration. Uncover hidden treasures, meet locals (the human, feathered, and wild-and-woolly ones), and learn while having fun. Change the way you see the world.

unrivaled. 5 Adventure

That urge to reach beyond the norm. Explore. Try new things that stretch the mind and body—they lead to the most elusive discoveries and moments of excitement. Experience life on the outside.

Snapshot: Boot-sucking mud. Bigger ice. Fewer people. Alaska is different.

6 UnCruise.com The spirit of adventure comes in many forms, and all are welcome. An avid kayaker? A snorkeling newbie? A long-distance hiker? Wine lover? Or maybe you’d rather watch from the sideline and snap photos from a skiff. Each activity level matters. Your expedition team fills you in on the daily options and helps you find the right fit.

Leading the charge. If there’s interest, guides take small hard-charging groups further afield. They create a safe, informative space for trying out new activities like paddle boarding, and give snorkeling 101 lessons. If you’re in the mood for more relaxation, or mobility concerns might hold you back, no sweat. No one misses out. You’ll find activities to pique your interest. And at the end of each day, everyone on board has stories to share.

Daily activities are designed to take advantage of the location, weather, conditions, and potential to cross paths with wildlife. If an unexpected encounter happens—like bow-riding dolphins— Mother Nature takes the helm, and plans change.

We’ve got the goods. Kayaks. Paddle boards. Hiking poles. Life jackets. Wetsuits. Check. What you need to bring is gear like rubber boots, water shoes, rain hats and jackets, rash guards, or any other active wear you need. “I’ve never cruised before, and I admit some skepticism, but this has by far been one of the trips we have ever taken. It was hard to pick just one highlight... Northern Lights, bushwhacking, Lamplugh Glacier hike. Who could ask for anything more?” — Caroline K; Washington, DC (Alaska 2016)

undeniable. 7 Place

Lost, then found, then lost again. And once there, it has the potential to blow you away. The realization of your significance against the scale of the place you’ve found. It’s hard to put into words, but you leave a piece of your heart.

8 UnCruise.com Snapshot: Life is never ordinary.

In the moment. You’re out in a far-off channel. No sign of civilization, and certainly no cell reception or internet. You’re completely cut off. Unplugged, but totally plugged in. And you don’t miss it. Nothing else matters. There’s nothing but the sound of a breeze. A howler monkey. Or a calving glacier. Be there.

Something special happens between you and these unique places. Centuries before, explorers traveled beyond the known ends of the earth to where you now set foot. With no interfering distractions, the energy of the trees, rivers, mountains is strong. Feel small and fully a part of nature’s system.

The best time is anytime, every time. It’s common for guests to ask, “when is the best time to go?” The true answer: no matter what month or season, there is plenty to see and do. Your captain and crew, whether they’re locals or have spent season-after-season in the area, know where to find overlooked and hidden gems.

“Oh—what a great time we had! Each day we had a unique adventure. We rode the skiffs to amazing places, hiked, snorkeled, kayaked, took about a thousand pictures of land and seascapes, birds and animals...I can’t say enough.” — Carol H; Ladson, SC (Costa Rica & Panamá 2017)

unmapped. 9 Connection

From mountain trails to footprints ashore, between feeding whales and fleeting krill—there’s connection. Places and adventures forever united by storytellers, fellow travelers, and salts of the earth. It’s as old as time.

10 UnCruise.com Snapshot: Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way...

Everyone on board winds up as one big family, no matter if you’ve come solo or with travel companions. The welcoming friendliness and open-hearted enthusiasm of the crew sets the tone. Adventure-hearted guests quickly grow that vibe and carry it on.

Bonds of friendship are forged. In short order, introductory questions of “where are you from” or “where have you traveled” make their way to conversations akin to those between old friends. It comes with sharing awe-inspiring experiences, the gratification of a successful exploration, and laughter over a meal.

They touch your soul. Taro fields in a steep valley, where ancient Hawaiian practices are still in play. A snorkel with Giant Pacific Mantas, filled with squeals of underwater excitement. Holding hands with local children proud to show you their village. Paddle slow through kelp beds to see what lives below.

“Traveling with UnCruise is wonderful. We saw friends from our previous cruise and familiar staff faces. People are always open, have a sense of adventure, and always bring new inspiration to our lives.” — Samantha C; Singapore (Mexico 2017)

uncut. 11 Finding Our Un-ness

It took grit, hard work, and a bit of luck, but the stars aligned when UnCruise Adventures came to be. It was 1996. Connection and innovation have been at the heart ever since. We are driven by a fearless team and a commitment of leaving the beaten path and really exploring—experiencing—what the world has to offer.

Your crew—and everyone working hard behind the scenes—has a fierce love of travel, and a deep respect and appreciation for the , wildlife, culture, and heritage of the places we visit. It’s our hope and goal that some of this rubs off on those who travel with us (it almost always does).

12 UnCruise.com Snapshot: (L) Your means to the point source of adventure. (R) Weathered, well-tested, and Alaska strong.

Onboard Team

Each crew member is hand-picked for their outstanding knowledge, experience, customer service, and safety skills—and also their genuine enthusiasm and welcoming spirit. Your onboard team includes the captain, engineers, chefs, expedition guides, and hotel, galley and deck staff. After selecting a fantastic crew, they undergo annual training in areas such as leadership, CPR, wilderness response, safety, guest services, and “Leave No Trace” practices. In other words, you’re in great hands.

UnCruisers

Small ships are intimate, and it doesn’t take long for guests and crew to get comfortable. Plenty of laughs are shared during your time on board. Wondering who your fellow adventurers might be? Well, they hail from all walks of life. A medley—of ages, lifestyles, places around the globe; couples, singles, and generations of family; educators and the educated (be it the school-of- life or a Ph.D.), savvy-travelers, entrepreneurs, even the occasional celebrity. They are likely a lot like you, and generally like each other. So much so, it’s not uncommon to see them traveling together again. We bet you’ll find something in common.

unbound. 13 Unparalleled Value

From your first inquiry until even after your trip and, of course, throughout your UnCruise, you receive welcoming, friendly, personalized service—and a host of benefits you won’t find on most other ships.

Choose to UnCruiseSM

Flexibility to do as much or as little as you like, and in comfort. You choose.

Backstage pass. Small group travel puts you in on the action (not watching from afar).

Memories to last a lifetime. Be prepared for AHA! and “I-can’t-believe-I-just-did-that” moments. You’ll leave with lots of them.

Connection. On a journey this intimate, you can’t help but feel connected—to the earth, to yourself, and to friends new and old.

Breezy. From transfers and baggage handling, to cruise cabins and pre- and post-cruise extensions, you’re taken care of.

Welcome to the family. Through our UnCruiser loyalty program, you receive exclusive savings on future cruises, referral incentives (for you AND your friends), and more.

unbeatable. 15 It takes permits—thousands of them—to go the places we go and do the things we do on an UnCruise. That goes for land and water activities. It’s a big part of what sets us apart. Going where others don’t, and can’t. Activities are led by highly-trained guides to keep you safe and confident Ready. in the field. So get out there. Try something new.

Hiking The up-side to varying terrain? You get a range of hikes and difficulty levels. Alaska has trails, though few are established. This often means Set. bushwhacking through brush, hand-over-hand grabbing branches and climbing over logs. Or a low-key tromp through mud on glacial moraine. Columbia & Snake Rivers and Pacific Northwest trails are more defined, switchbacking up mountains and across fields. The jungles of Costa Rica and Panamá are thick with roots and tangled Go. vines, and trails well-worn by wildlife. High humidity and heat also call for a slower pace. In contrast, Mexico’s landscape is open with minimal vegetation, but always cacti. A hike into the arroyo has elevation and possible rock scrambles. From easy strolls to an hours-long thigh-burner, hiking runs the gamut.

Kayaking Open water, channels, rivers, coves. There’s water all right. Paddling through ebb-and-flow can be a workout or a natural assist at reaching your destination. It’s also a favorite means of exploring. Getting out in a kayak could be one of best decisions you make. Push off from your ship’s EZ Dock launch platform, swim step, or from shore. Two types are used, sea kayaks for cold water locales and sit-on-tops in the tropics. Most paddling is guided, but open paddling is offered. And outings can last one to four hours. Ever see a 90-year-old kayaking for the first time? It happens.

16 UnCruise.com Paddle boarding From the boat or the beach (or the water if gravity factors in). Paddle boards are available on our boats in most destinations (warm and cold water). If conditions are mellow, the water is smooth, and it’s a water-play day—give it a go. There’s no pressure if you’ve never tried it. Your guide shows you the ropes and sends you off to test your balance. Laps around the boat, get some friendly competition going with a race, or just slow and steady.

Snorkeling It ranges from deep water “jump and go” from a skiff to snorkeling 101 lessons to get comfortable wearing a mask and snorkel. In the tropics, you can ease in the water from shore. Deep water is more challenging. Snorkeling with whale sharks and sea lion pups depends on currents in Mexico. Hawaii’s night snorkel with Giant Pacific Manta rays is an exciting hour or two (hanging to a surf board). The challenge in Alaska and Pacific Northwest is water temperature which dictates shorter outings. But it’s amazing what’s down there. Wet suits (available on board) are key for some snorkeling and many guests also snorkel with a noodle.

Skiff rides From a quick shuttle to shore, to a two-hour exploration along shore, skiff rides get you farther faster than human-powered means. Want an easy-going expedition? Minimal effort is required on a skiff. All you need to do is stay in the boat, with your focus on what’s around you. It gets breezy on the water and occasionally choppy, but your skiff captains are pros. Rain or shine, wearing a hat is always good, and so is bringing a dry sack for protecting cameras and such. PFD’s (lifejackets) are not optional. Other than those key pieces of gear, skiff rides are a piece of cake, and fun, too.

Uncrowded. A handful of small fishing boats dot this quiet turquoise bay surrounded by red-rock cliffs and the dramatic Sierra de La range. The tiny village nearby, Puerto Agua Verde is straight out of a Discoveries Steinbeck novel.

Bahía Magdalena

Unwavering. The cool California current and warmer South American current meet in this long cove sheltered from the Pacific, creating a healthy marine environment. So rich, gray whales from Alaska winter here every year to birth their calves.

Isla San Francisco

Unearthly. While small, it boasts an almost moonlike landscape. A crescent shaped bay, long sandy beach, desert dotted with cacti, and rock cliffs provide shelter to birds and lizards. Octopus, eels, rays, and tropical fish find protection along the rocky coastline.

Isla Espíritu Santo

Uncharted. A natural marine park, it is home to many birds and reptiles—including several reptile species endemic to the island and Baja California Sur. But its most conspicuous features are the distinct fingers of land that stretch to the west from half-moon beaches.

Princess Louisa Inlet & Chatterbox Falls

Unforgettable. 7,000-foot walls. A 5-mile-long inlet. And a 120-foot waterfall. Capt. George found the inlet entrance in 1792 but didn’t sail in—the tide was ebbing through Malibu Rapids. Little did he know, beyond the rapids there is almost no current.

Deception Pass

Unexpected. In 1792, Joseph Whidbey, a member of Vancouver’s expedition, sought a passage between Whidbey Island and the mainland. Coming up against shallow water and steep rocks, he called it a dead- end. It earned its name when a narrow, intricate channel was found.

Adventures can be had year-round in Alaska, but most folks prefer when it doesn’t require snowshoes and dog sleds (although dogs are fun). So yes, it’s a fact when someone says “any time is the best time.” But come spring, summer, and fall, there is a lot more to see. Which is why we start early, then stay as late as we can. The things you see and how you see them, well, it changes from season to season.

Bears are sleepers. Whales, not so much. Birds sleep anywhere, anytime. But come spring, it’s Alaska’s awakening. Foraging wildlife and new babies— Sitka fawns, bear cubs, sea otter pups. Migrating birds and whales return to Alaska’s and Canada’s Inside Passages. Peaks covered in snow (maybe even along trails). Budding forests. Meltwaters flow and calving glaciers send bergy bits on their merry way. There’s a perfect balance of daylight and dark hours, making Aurora Borealis sightings possible. The weather is good, plus it’s crowd-free. And in April and May, notable locals and experts may join you on board sharing insider info. For some, it’s their favorite time of year.

Summer

Long days are a signature of Alaska summers. You have extra daylight for more playtime, but with it comes liquid sunshine, and it gets a bit warmer. Daytime temps can reach into the 80s by mid-summer. So things melt, which brings channels riddled with fewer bergy bits, calving glaciers, and better access to higher trail elevations for hikes. Thomas Bay

Unshakeable. Given many names over time, it tragically earned the title “The Bay of Death,” when a massive landslide killed 500 people in 1750. And rich in lore, it’s also known as “Devil’s Country,” after supposed sightings of mythical, shape-shifting creatures called Kushtaka.

Tongass National Forest

Unrivaled. At 17 million acres, it’s the largest national forest in the U.S. It’s also the world’s largest temperate rainforest. Includes 19 wilderness areas. And covers nearly all of Southeast Alaska. It’s been occupied by Native tribes for over 10,000 years.

untamed. 101 Twice as Nice

Alaska is big. Really big. And the Alaska and Canada Inside Passages are long. There’s a lot to take in while you’re paddling, skiffing, hiking, and cruising. It’s all impressive. And varied. That goes for both the landscape and the wildlife.

102 UnCruise.com So, rather than just one week, why not take in more over two? Go for the ultimate. You won’t find any backtracking or duplicate days on a two-week Alaska adventure. What you will find is more face-time with glaciers, more backcountry hikes and kayaking, and more opportunities to see wildlife hotspots. Plus, the longer 14-night cruises are priced with built-in savings to give you a better value (compared to their 7-night counterparts).

Have a gander at your options over the next few pages. Go for the full monty sailing between Seattle and Juneau (Washington’s Olympic National Park and San Juan Islands, through the Salish Sea, and in Southeast Alaska). Or, double your fun with more fjords, glaciers, parks, and wildlife all in Southeast Alaska.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed these two weeks on board. And the best thing about the UnCruise experience is when we see something we just turn the boat and go check it out! Very cool!” — Beth D; Riverside, CA (Alaska 2016)

The crew call you by name and quickly know your preferences, making you feel right at home. And by the end of the cruise, you and your fellow travelers will feel like one big family.

You’ll be impressed with how enthusiastic and accommodating the crew is. There’s good energy and excitement. The meals are plentiful and scrumptious. It’s a classy, well-run operation. An expedition guide may discover morel mushrooms on a hike, or talk of local chilies might spark inspiration. Perhaps there’s even a special request to celebrate an occasion.

Your galley crew is attentive to ingredients. They also pay close attention to how food options meld with the activities and conditions of the day. Or, along the Columbia & Snake Rivers, award-winning Washington and Oregon wines are paired with each meal. And that experience—plus bacon in a salad, atop a dessert, or to garnish a cocktail—is likely to increase chances of success. While Mother Nature is assured her place at center stage, the galley’s fine-tuned creations earn deserved time in the spotlight and on your fork. It’s exciting in the galley!

Much like any family, the vessels in the fleet are eclectic. And as the fleet has grown, with each boat brought into the fold, it’s been fun to see their individual personalities come to life. The unassuming Wilderness Adventurer has style and all the amenities Adventurer needed to get the job done. It’s just as comfortable moseying into the lounge for a pint as it is to leap from the fantail for a “polar 60 Guests / 25 Crew / 30 Cabins / Length 160’ plunge” or sketch a landscape from the sundeck.

Yep. She lives up to her name. There’s something about this boat in particular that breeds a high level of activity from guests and crew. The mantra on board could be: work hard, play hard, relax, repeat. The term “WAVE STRONG” (WAVE is an acronym for Wilderness Adventurer) was adopted years back and all aboard take it to heart. The ship’s easy-going, fun-making energy inspires fierce loyalty by her crew and guests alike. So beloved, it’s common for crew who transfer to other boats to take “wav-isms” with them.

undivided. 125 Knows No Limits Wilderness Warm and inviting, efficient, and oh so cared for by her crew. The Wilderness Discoverer’s agenda is to deliver big adventure. And she does it in top-of-the-class style. Sleek with a northwest feel, the ship Discoverer was retrofitted specifically for wilderness exploration. Wild, remote, and at the edges of the map, she carries a bit of Alaska wherever she 76 Guests / 28 Crew / 38 Cabins / Length 176’ sails—the beautiful bar top and tap tower are made from a yellow cedar log found in Peril Strait.

Her crew takes a lot of pride in spiffing her up and many say she’s the best-looking vessel in the fleet. But looks aside, she doesn’t hold back when it comes to exploration. Her shoal draft allows access to waters that are off-limits to bigger boats, where she can slip right in. An instigator of action, she was the first “Wilderness” boat in the family and set us on a path toward greater adventures—you will be too.

The Wilderness Explorer was destined for Alaska’s deep waters from the first moment her boat builders in Boothbay Harbor, Maine slid her into the drink. A strong Explorer “sea boat” with feet, she is not bashful or apologetic in her, or her crew’s, unflinching drive to seek out secret niches—with attitude. 74 Guests / 26 Crew / 37 Cabins / Length 186’ You know the kind, that “we are better than the rest” attitude. She’s special like that.

Fully embracing change and keeping it fresh, the crew is known to be creative and willing to try the untried, whether it’s a new anchorage with access to an unexplored trail or a new recipe with locally-foraged ingredients. Bold with a capital Brrr, she is also the only ship in the fleet to have over-wintered in Southeast Alaska, for not one, but two wicked cold seasons. Get to know her, and she’ll warm your heart.

unmolded. 129 The Good Life Safari Voyager A quick clip on the Safari Voyager—discreet, classy, and stealth. She is a leader in expedition functionality and features the fleet’s most advanced 62 Guests / 29-31 Crew / 32 Cabins / Length 174’ skiff launching platform. Comfortable in warm water regions, she’s specifically built to handle the humidity and heat that can challenge lesser-designed vessels. Tropical adventure and wilderness access are always at the forefront. So is the natural landscape.

A seamless extension of the places she sails, the ship and her mostly-local crew exude pura vida (pure life). Handcrafted artwork throughout the vessel and in each cabin pays homage to the regions of Costa Rica and Panamá. Casual in nature, the Safari Voyager is a bit of a show-off, too—take in 270-degrees of view from the top deck or window-to-window in the air-conditioned lounge.

unwrapped. 131 Big-hearted Safari Endeavour Polished, unwavering, and upscale, the Safari Endeavour may be the workhorse of the fleet but it’s her zest-for-life persona that’s 84 Guests / 35-37 Crew / 42 Cabins / Length 232’ remembered most. She looks sharp—a nod to the crew who work hard to keep her that way. Wood fixtures and accents shine and artwork highlights the warm and cool waters where she sails. No other UnCruise ship covers more territory, and like her namesake, Captain Cook’s Endeavour, both the ship and crew are true explorers.

Always reliable, the captain and crew take great pride in their ship and the teamwork that keeps her running smoothly. And it shows. You can be sure if there is a score to be settled, the captain will argue she’s the “greatest” ship in the fleet. Her roomy lounge, dining room, and sun deck are undisputed, but the Safari Endeavour claims to have the biggest heart, too.

unpretentious. 133 First Loves Never Fade S.S. Legacy A perfect mash-up of old and new—replica 1898 coastal gold rush steamer, Victorian-style décor, and modern machinery. The elegant 86 Guests / 34-35 Crew / 43 Cabins / Length 192’ and one-of-a-kind S.S. Legacy is a classic and the fastest in the fleet. Capable of 15 knots, she can sail to the farthest reaches gathering more stories of adventure along the way. It’s no wonder that for many of the crew (and office folk), she’s a first love that never fades.

And wherever she sails, she announces her arrival with an antique whistle—a relic from UnCruise CEO Dan Blanchard’s childhood tugboat (well, actually his father’s tug). The Pesky Barnacle Saloon is a welcoming hub to every adventure-hearted soul who sidles up with a whisky and a tale. In 2018, she’ll be equipped with kayaks, paddle boards, skiffs, and at the ready for more explorations. Like the crew and guests having the time of their lives, she hums with each new opportunity.

unpretentious.unrigged. 135135 Small but Mighty Safari Quest Size makes this baby a swift permit buster. With just 22 guests, she can enter areas restricted to traditional small ships. Agile, spry, and 22 Guests / 10 Crew / 11 Cabins / Length 120’ with clean design lines, the Safari Quest can cut into the tiniest nooks that even our other small ships can’t reach. This includes coveted wilderness areas with highly limited access of no more than two groups of twelve guests per day. For those most special adventures, she is the ticket in.

While small is her secret for access, on the inside this yacht is anything but. Spacious and comfy cabins. A cozy and welcoming lounge and dining room. And plenty of onboard niches for nestling and relaxing. On a boat this size, camaraderie is near-instant—feel the love. A feeling akin to family. The first ship in our early days as American Safari Cruises, the Quest is a cherished part of the UnCruise family.

The Safari Explorer has what mariners call “feet” that take her into wild areas 36 Guests / 14-15 Crew / 18 Cabins / Length 145’ most other ships aren’t certified to visit. Her performance-built rugged construction means access to faraway regions. But it’s what’s on the inside that makes this yacht the prize of the fleet. And with only 36 guests on board, the feel is decidedly exclusive.

Lovingly called “the Bulldog,” she’s poised, her interior is a pearl, and the general mood is down-to-earth. For about half the year, she bops around the islands of Hawaii soaking up the laid-back aloha spirit. The other half she spends in Alaska sowing her wild oats. A protective spirit infused in every part of the ship, and within the crew. She’s made for adventures after all and with them comes inevitable fun and folly.

La Pinta was 48 Guests / 27 Crew / 24 Cabins / Length 209’ designed with this in mind. Elegant and sophisticated, she’d steal the show in an environment less impressive. Instead, she’s the perfect complement to the great outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the lounge showcase the views. An outdoor Sky Bar and sun deck. And décor that nods to the nautical.

What started as a dream for captains, crew, and guests became reality when La Pinta made her renovated debut in 2007. Her Ecuadorian crew exudes friendliness, fueled by pride in their vessel, the Galápagos Islands, and a desire to share them both. Some good things are too good to keep secret. Geared up for adventure play and wildlife, the yacht also has a fun-to-explore natural history library.

natural and cultural resources of adventure travel destinations. We care now for the future. The fund chooses to support projects outside Canada and the United States because similar organizations already exist to fund projects in these countries. Grants are awarded once a year.

Knowledgeable locals manage projects in their own communities. Nonprofit and for-profit organizations may apply: conservation groups, indigenous people groups, tour operators, accommodations, and other Our Affiliations non-profits. Projects must impact a shared goal such as environmental protection, improving recreation infrastructure, adopting sustainable tourism practices, or protecting cultural and other tourism assets.
