Advertising in the North Westmorland News

There are 14 Parishes receiving the North Westmorland News newsletter, Morland, Newby, Sleagill, , Maulds Meaburn, Crosby Ravensworth, Great Strickland, Little Strickland, Bolton, Cliburn, Clifton, Brough- am, Askham and Lowther. Over 1600 hard copies of the newsletter are printed and hand delivered to the homes in the Parishes plus emailed to many others outside these Parishes, and it is a great source of local information. (There are also 116 email recipients.) It provides a facility for charities, non profit making organisations and Church and Parish events to advertise free of charge. It also includes advertisements for local businesses and it is a great opportunity for businesses however big or small to promote themselves into all these homes at a very reasonable cost. So often it is the newsletter that people turn to when they are looking for say, an electrician, a gardener, a plumber or a decorator, and the information is there in a very handy form for the householders. All the people having input into the publication of the newsletter are volunteers. However the newsletter relies on and depends on its advertisers, the income from them helps to cover the printing costs. Any businesses in our Parishes, plus any others in neighbouring Parishes, would be most welcome to adver- tise in the newsletter, the rates are very modest and we would be very happy to hear from you. Update from the committee of Lyvennet Nursery Group

Following a meeting of the committee on Tuesday 27 February 2018, the minutes of an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 22 February 2018 were approved. Those present at the EGM voted unanimously in favour of the proposal to dissolve Lyvennet Nursery Group on 15 April 2018 (end of the Spring term).

Unfortunately, the nursery is unsustainable financially, and has been struggling for some time, mainly due to extremely low numbers of chil- dren, particularly three year olds who are funded by Government.

The decision to close has not been taken lightly but having sought advice from the Early Years team at Cumbria County Council and the Pre- School Learning Alliance, there is no alternative. Therefore, the last ses- sion of Lyvennet Nursery Group will take place on Wednesday 28 March 2018.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported Lyvennet Nursery over the years, which has enabled the nursery to continue to operate until now.

We shall continue to do our best for both the children, members of the nursery and our employees until the end of the Spring term and will assist the school if possible with its intention to provide nursery care on the school site from the Summer term onwards. Chris Barden Plastering
