E-mail: [email protected] The present work was identified the chemical compounds of essential oil (EO), evaluated the antioxidative activities, phenolic and total phenolic contents (TPCs) from aerial parts of Ferula assa-foetida and its oleo-gum-resin. The EO components were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Polyphenolic compounds of metanolic extract of its plant and its oleo-gum-resin were examined by using HPLC analysis. The TPC was assessed by Folin-Ciocalteu method. Furthermore, radical scavenging activity of sample was assessed using Diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Essential oil's analyses showed that 10-epi-ɣ-eudesmol( 18.3%), α-eudesmol (10.9%), agarospirol (7.1%), β-eudesmol (6.6%) and guaiol (5.8%) were the main components from F. assa-foetida aerial parts and α-pinene (22.6%), (Z)-1-propenyl sec-butyl disulfide (20.4%), β-pinene (12.1%), (E)-1- propenyl sec-butyl disulfide (6.6%) and bicyclogermacrene (4.1%) were the main components from its oleo-gum-resin. Chloregenic acid (2.6 mg/g), ellagic acid (1.3 mg/g), quercetin (0.18 mg/g) and vanillin (0.05 mg/g) were the main polyphenols detected in extract of plant. Also in its oleo-gum-resin were carvacrol (3.6 mg/g), trans-ferulic acid (2.01 mg/g), eugenol(1.4 mg/g), hesperetin (0.73 mg/g), hesperedin (0.66 mg/g) and vanillin (0.22 mg/g), respectively. The TPC from F. assa-foetida aerial part was 50.50 ± 0.74 mg/g and from oleo-gum-resin was 76.12 ± -1 6.52 mg/g. The result showed IC50 of 1463.99 ± 70.68µg ml in 517 nm from F. assa-foetida -1 aerial part and IC50 of 1417.23± 20.50 µg ml from oleo-gum-resin. Results implied that F. assa- foetida and its oleo-gum-resin are valuable sources of natural compounds with important biological properties. Essential oil's analyses showed that α-pinene (18.8%), Bulnesol (14.6%) and Humulene epoxide II (9.6%) were the main components from F. gummosa aerial parts and ß-pinene (34.2%), Bulnesol (5.5%) and Limonene (4.9%) were the main components from its oleo-gum-resin. Catechin (3.38 mg/g), chloregenic acid (0.70 mg/g), rosmarinic acid (0.20 mg/g), trans-ferulic acid (0.17 mg/g) and quercetin (0.16 mg/g) were the main polyphenols detected in extract of plant. Also in its oleo-gum-resin were eugenol (0.44 mg/g), trans-ferulic acid (0.07 mg/g), p-Coumaric (0.02 mg/g) and quercetin (0.02 mg/g), respectively. The TPC from F. gummosa aerial part was 5.08 ± 0.11 mg/g and from oleo- -1 gum-resin was 4.10 ± 0.03 mg/g. The result showed IC50 of 4008.24 ± 89.56µg ml in 517 nm -1 from F. gummosa aerial part and IC50 of 5698.75± 278.93 µg ml from oleo-gum-resin. Results implied that F. gummosa and its oleo-gum-resin are valuable sources of natural compounds with important biological properties [1,2]. Chloregenic acid (2.91 mg/g), catechin (0.89 mg/g), hesperetin (0.51 mg/g) and p-Coumaric acid (0.05 mg/g) were the main polyphenols detected in extract of plant. Also, trans-ferulic acid (1.54 mg/g) was in its oleo-gum-resin.The TPC from F. persica aerial part was 70.21 ± 0.32 mg/g and -1 from oleo-gum-resin was 46.85 ± 1.51 mg/g. The result showed IC50 of 1209.89 ± 20.97µg ml -1 in 517 nm from F. persica aerial part and IC50 of 1840.23± 94.34 µg ml from oleo-gum-resin. Results implied that F. persica and its oleo-gum-resin are valuable sources of natural compounds with important biological properties [1]. E-mail: [email protected] The experiment was carried out using the shadow-dried aerial parts of Dorema ammoniacum D. Don. and its oleo-gum-resin in order to investigate the polyphenolic compositions, total phenolic contents (TPCs), antioxidant activity and essential oil (EO) analysis. Polyphenolic compounds of metanolic extract of its plant and its oleo-gum-resin were examined by using HPLC analysis. The TPC was assessed by Folin-Ciocalteu method. Furthermore, radical scavenging activity of sample was assessed using Diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The EO components were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Chloregenic acid (2.1 mg/g), ellagic acid (1.2 mg/g), hesperedin (0.54 mg/g), eugenol (0.53 mg/g), hesperetin (0.40 mg/g), catechin (0.35 mg/g) and vanillin (0.20 mg/g) were the main polyphenols detected in extract of plant, respectively. Also in its oleo-gum- resin were rutin (1.02 mg/g), catechin (0.93 mg/g), carvacrol (0.58 mg/g), hesperedin (0.30 mg/g) and vanillin (~0.10 mg/g), respectively. The TPC from D. ammoniacum aerial part was 79.64 ± 3.25 mg/g mg/g and from oleo-gum-resin was 71.28 ± 0.43 mg/g. The result showed -1 IC50 of 659.28± 41.87µg ml in 517 nm from D. ammoniacum aerial part and IC50 1356.47± 21.03 µg ml-1 from oleo-gum-resin. Essential oil's analyses showed that tetradecanal (13.5%), geranyl acetone (9.6%), n-hexadecanal (8.5%), n-heptadecane (8.1%), (E)-dihydro-apofarnesol (7.5%) and (E)-nerolidol (6.7%) were the main components from D.

Nearly one-fifth the size of the United States, with similar extremes of geography and climate, and a population approaching 35 million, Iran has been ruled since 1941 by His Majesty Shahanshah Aryamehr. While he has sought to restore and preserve the cultural heritage of ancient and Islamic Persia, he has also promoted the rapid westernization and modernization of Iran, including the establishment of a radio and television broadcasting system second only to that of Japan among the nations of Asia, a fact which is little known to Europeans or Americans. The purpose of this study was to amass and present a comprehensive body of knowledge concerning the development of broadcasting in Iran, as well as a review of current operations and plans for future development. A short survey of the political and spiritual history of pre-Islamic and Islamic Persia and a general survey of mass communication in Persia and Iran, especially from the Il iv advent of the telegraph is presented, so that the development of broadcasting might be seen in proper perspective and be more fully appreciated.

There is a controversial debate about the reasons for this decline, with either mismanagement of the water resources, or climatic changes assumed to be the main cause. In this study we quantifed the water budget components of Lake Urmia and analyzed their temporal evolution and interplay over the last fve decades. With this we can show that variations of Lake Urmia’s water level during the analyzed period were mainly triggered by climatic changes. However, under the current climatic conditions agricultural water extraction volumes are signifcant compared to the remaining surface water infow volumes. Changes in agricultural water withdrawal would have a signifcant impact on the lake volume and could either stabilize the lake, or lead to its complete collapse. Lake Urmia is an endorheic lake located in north-west of Iran (Fig. 1). With an average original surface area of about 5,000 km2 it is one of the largest hypersaline lakes on earth1–3. Considering its original extent, Lake Urmia has more than one hundred islands, which are vital for the reproduction of various local birds, but also as a safe breeding refuge of migratory birds such as Flamingos and White Pelicans2. This opposition, obviously, had certain theoretical bases. Though the power and authority of 'ulama' vis-a-vis the existing government began to increase right from the Safavi period, an attempt to make a direct bid for power is certainly a recent phenomenon. Although there are quite a few general works available on the changing roles of the Iranian 'ulama', there is no serious study of the theoretical changes that took place in the thoughts of Shi'i 'ulama' during the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah. This dissertation tries to fulfil this gap. The dissertation is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the origins of Shi'i theory of imamate. Most of the basic concepts of Ithna 'Ashari Shi'ism (the Twelvers) such as imaroat ghayabat, intezar and taqiyya were crystallised during the Buyid and Mongol periods. According to Ithna 'Ashari Shi'i belief only the Prophet and imams possess legitimate authority -2- to rule over the people. They enjoyed spiritual as well as temporal velayat' over the people.
