Dear Fellow Lions,

To the Lions of Nova Scotia, THANK YOU for all your continued support and willingness to be part of my theme BE THE CHANGE!! So many of you stepped outside of your comfort zone to try something new and you did amazing!! Be proud Lions. This year definitely took a turn, due to COVID-19, making us find the change in the ways we support our communities. It always warms my heart to see Lions working together embracing each other’s ideas with care and com- passion to make sure all ideas turn into reality and succeed. Your communities thank you for your commitment.

I would like to thank all the Lions and Lions Clubs that were able to support my personal goal of raising funds for a Lions Foundation of Canada Autism Assistance Support Dog. To date, I am over 1/2 way there. Yes, I hit a big Corona road bump this spring but that won’t stop me from reaching my goal. (I happen to have some DG dragonfly pins left )

I would like to thank my biggest supporters over this past year who gave up much of their time and energy and been my foundation, even during my absenteeism. My loving husband Lion Doug and my 3 amazing kids who make me proud everyday Lion Jeanetta, Lion Katelyn, and Lion Cameron. And the biggest joy in my life, my granddaughter Charlotte.

I am a volunteer because I believe that it is better to give than to receive. Many non-lions have asked me if I got paid to do this. I say no, not in dollars, but the rewards in my heart are priceless. Thank you all for an amazing year of adventures, learning, thankfulness, humbleness, humour, and fulfillment.

I wish DGE Lion Jane a great year. Don’t blink too long, your year will fly by too quickly. I ask that you give DGE Lion Jane all the patience and support you can as this is not the way any Dis- trict Governor should have to enter their term with so many challenges in front of them. We are Lions, we support each other, we will make it through this tough time. We can and will “be the change” that our communities need to make it through this rough time. NS Lions Strong

The Kingston Lions Club always wants to help the community, and in this instance – their local health care workers. As we all know, the Covid-19 pandemic has created many levels of stress for our health care providers. The Kingston Lions know how to feed large groups of people and that is what they did on June 17th. The Lions prepared and delivered 168 complete cold plate meals, including desserts, to Soldiers Memorial Hospital to cover all staff and all shifts at the hospital. As well, 10 meals were delivered to Middleton’s EHS team.Kingston Lion president Alice Neiley personally thanked and awarded certificates of appreciation to Donnie Shepherd, Co-Site Lead at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, and Craig and Samantha of EHS.

For over 34 years, the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides has been a vital national fund- raiser in support of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. Now more than ever Dog Guides is relying on the generous support of its donors and partners to meet its goal of giving Canadians a new leash on life. On May 31st the first ever Pet Valu Virtual Walk for Dog Guides took place in a physically distant manner. Participants showed their sup- port for Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides by going for a walk around the block, lifting some weights, running on your treadmill at home, dancing in their living room, jumping on the trampoline, or anything physically active all while practicing social distancing. Together we have raised a total of $249,060 so far! Please continue to promote or donate to this virtual fundraiser as we now try to achieve our goal of $325,000, which will represent one Dog Guide for each province and territory. Join thousands of others virtually as we support the Pet Valu Virtual Walk for Dog Guides. Every dollar raised through the virtual walk will support Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and its mission to assist Canadians with a medical or physical disability by providing them Dog Guides at no cost.

Director of Development for Brigadoon Michelle Bohaychuk said “Since the very early days, Lions across Nova Scotia have been an integral partner in supporting Brigadoon. Their support not only helped build Brigadoon but also help fund hundreds of camp stays for children whose families cannot afford it. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support received from Lions, as it provides essential funding on an ongoing basis to ensure no child is ever turned away for financial reason.”

With COVID-19 this year, there will be no summer camps, however, there are on-line virtual programs being offered. Unfortunately, registration for the virtual programs has closed. Registration for 2021 summer camp will start early in upcoming new year, so check ut the programs offered on their website and if you know someone who would like to attend advise them to register early.
