Although they couldn't disclose any revealing details, they all teased that Morris (Winston) and Max Greenfield's characters (Schmidt) would be brewing up some mischief. PICS: TV's Primetime Stars Go Nude For Allure "Winston and Schmidt and a whole host of others get very involved in Cece's wedding," Simone said of her character, who recently became engaged on the show to a relatively new character named "Shivrang." "That's all I'm going to say. ... [They're] troublemakers." Johnson, who revealed that his character (Nick) will be predominantly involved with Zooey Deschanel's character (Jess) rather than scheming with the fellahs, teased a hodgepodge of random elements in the finale. "Nick's a little bit more involved with Jess in the finale. He's kind of tied in with her [Winston and Schmidt] are tied up together," Johnson previewed. "There's a badger, and then Taylor Swift is there." VIDEO: Zooey Talks 'New Girl': Will Jess and Nick Happen? As for the day's event, Johnson underscored how fundamentally important the environment is to usand why we should do what we can to make the planet sustainable. "Obviously the environment matters," the 34-year-old actor said. "Without it, we're in a little bit of trouble. I'm excited to be [here] to support that." Johnson not only supports sustainability in principle but also practices in his own backyard by keeping a compost pile, which he finds a "pretty cool" practice. "Environmentalism, in general, is one of those causes where because you can't always put a face and an emotion to the victim of environmental damage, it's a harder cause in so many different ways," Kaling said. Volume 8, Issue 2 November 2011 Reviewing Romcom: (100) IMDb Users and (500) Days of Summer Inger-Lise Kalviknes Bore Birmingham City University, UK Abstract This article contributes to academic debates around the romantic comedy genre and comedy audiences by examining IMDb user reviews of (500) Days of Summer (2009). Directed by Marc Webb for Fox Searchlight Pictures, (500) Days of Summer was promoted with the tagline ‘Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t’. This presents the film as an unconventional romantic comedy in at least three ways: Firstly, it suggests that these two characters will not actually end up together, which challenges the idea of the romcom couple as ‘meant to be’. Secondly, it presents the possibility that audiences might not get the happy ending we usually expect from comedy. And finally, the tagline casts the boy, rather than the girl, in the role as yearning romantic, thereby challenging the traditional gender roles of heterosexual relationships. So how did audiences respond to this film? At the time of writing, it has been rated by 75,716 IMDb users, and has an average score of 8.0 out of 10. This clearly suggests a favourable reception, but the IMDb reviews also offer qualitative data that can shed further light on how the film has been evaluated. What kinds of criteria are in operation? What elements do reviewers highlight as important for their experiences of the film? How is the film seen to fail for some viewers? Drawing on previous studies of romantic comedy, the analysis will consider how these particular audience members articulated their responses to (500) Days of Summer, as well as their positions as reviewers.

We just hope the prank his better than his super weird "let's hit someone with a ski" joke idea. Black masculinity and White-cast Sitcoms Unraveling stereotypes in New Girl Marie Zafimehy Supervisor: Alma Persson, Gender Studies, LiU Master’s Programme Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change Master’s thesis 15 ECTS credits ISRN: LIU-TEMA G/GSIC1-A—19/015-SE Marie Zafimehy 2 Master thesis - Gender, Intersectionality and Change ABSTRACT For decades, situational comedies — commonly named “sitcoms” — have been racially segregated on TV between Black-cast sitcoms and White-cast sitcoms. Extensive research has been led about representation of Black and White masculinities in this segregated context. This master thesis studies what happens when White and Black males are equally casted as main characters in contemporary sitcoms by offering a case-study of the 2011 sitcom New Girl (2011-2017). How is Black masculinity represented in New Girl, and in which ways does it intersect with contemporary societal issues (e.g. racial profiling, Black Lives Matter movement)? This case-study uses tools, methodologies and concepts, drawn from Black and Intersectional feminism as well as Feminist media studies. Based on a 25 episodes sample of the show, it implements Ronald Jackson’s traditional stereotypes classification and “Black masculine identity theory” (Jackson, 2006) to study representations of Black masculinity in New Girl, through its two main Black male characters, Winston and Coach. Given that representations of minorities in popular culture reflect and influence our contemporary society, the results offer new insights about how sitcoms, series and pop- culture productions in general can challenge traditional stereotypes and display a more progressive Black masculinity.
