KJ-52 (Jonah Sorrentino) is a Christian rapper from Tampa, in Florida. He was born on June 26, 1975. He's known for two songs addressed to another rapper, Eminem. The name stems from "KJ," which was an abbreviation of his old rap name (King J. Mac) and according to KJ, also stands for "knowledge and justification. "52" (pronounced "five-two") represents the miracle of the five loaves and two fish as told in the Bible. KJ- 52 feels he is spreading the word of the Lord in much the same way Jesus shared the food in the story. He was awarded the Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year for "Never Look Away" and Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards of 2007. KJ-52 also has four Dove awards to add to his 'collection.' KJ-52's song "You're Gonna Make it" was played at the end of Cold Case Season 5 Episode 8 "It Takes a village." He rapped in the Newsboys version of Jesus Freak alongside, and had a part in TobyMac's remix of One World. He has been rapping since 1993 (age 18), and his current label is BEC. While the production and content of this genre have been explored by scholars, few studies have attended to the devotional use of the genre and its role in shaping the religious lives of American evangelicals. This project draws from several sets of data to address this matter: analysis of church-created worship music albums, listener testimonials on Christian radio websites, and focus group interviews of laity and clergy at four South Carolina churches. The data revealed that music is significant to their religious lives outside of church as a means of encountering God, managing emotions, and displaying spiritual capital. Inside churches, the music is used to create a sense of corporate identity that reinforces social bonds within the community and attracts newcomers. Drawing on the methodological framework of Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of practice and his work on social distinction, I argue that American evangelicals who listen to Christian contemporary music are engaged in aural piety, a set of practices, attitudes, and ideas invested in music that structure and evoke the experience of the sacred.

Having fallen over 70 feet (seven stories) from a coastal precipice, landing headfirst on the sharp jagged rocks below, and still surviving, Ted listened as the Doctor told him that he had “no explanation” for how he had not been killed by the fall. It was in that moment that Ted (an insecure and “at risk” youth who had been raised by a single mother who had put him in private school and forced him to go to church) remembers knowing 2 things for sure: 1- that he was alive because a very REAL God had saved him, and 2- if this God wanted his life that bad, He could have it. From that point on, Ted says that he has tried to live his life according to the Calling that God placed on his life. In the more than 25 years that have passed since the life changing epiphany that came with his fall from a cliff, Ted has felt God develop a passion in him for the counter culture, the people that would never normally be reached by traditional outreach methods. As the Founder and Executive Director of The Reach Alliance, the parent ministry for The Extreme Tour, Stitch’s Cultural Project, and The Objective, Ted has worked with his team to develop effective, creative, and cutting edge strategies for outreach in this new millennium.
