I couldn’t believe what I just heard. I turned to my dear friend, Welby Smith, and asked, “Did he just say what I think he said?” Welby confirmed and all of a sudden folks were patting me on the back exclaiming, “Hey Russ. The President just gave you a shout out. What do you think of that?” I know that the only real shout out I ever need is from Jesus. He is my audience. He is the One I need to please. If everyone in the world says I’m successful but Jesus does- n’t think so, then I have failed. However, it’s alright if the entire world thinks I’m a loser as long as Jesus is proud of me, then that’s all I need to know. Many times we don’t realize that God answers every prayer by saying “Yes,” “No” or “Wait.” I don’t like “No” and I really don’t like to “Wait.” I want it all, and I want it all right now. However we are told to “ask and keep on ask- ing.” “Seek and keep on seeking” and “Knock and keep on knocking.” God’s Word encourages us to never give up; to keep on praying and trusting. The Lord may eventually say “Yes” to your prayers but more often than not it just takes a little time. ALBUMTHE GOOD OF INTENTIONS THE MONTH TRAVELLING COMPANION Top 40 Country Music long ago lost any resemblance to its original roots. The argument has been made that all real, legitimate Country Music had to find another genre just to have a home. Fans of Country Music’s classic roots nowadays find themselves over in the “Americana” genre in search of that legendary twang fiddle and pick. Based in Liverpool, England, The Good Intentions have been making that sweet twang since 2008’s critically acclaimed Poor Boy. The three-piece Americana ensemble mix acoustic instrumentation with three-part harmonies and incorporate 60s Folk and Bluegrass with early Country dynamics. The 12 tracks Travelling Companion are so consistent and authentic that picking a standout isn’t easy. But the track “Paul The Apostle” is worthy of its namesake. The band all feel that being based in Liverpool, the port from where so many Europeans left for America with the traditional music that evolved into Country music, they are reclaiming the roots of that music and celebrating the links between the British Isles and America. In the words of chief songwriter R. Peter Davies: “From Liverpool to Nashville, wherever they may roam. Our hearts are only looking for a place to call a home.” WILBURN & WILBURN | HERE COMES SUNDAY

This father/son duo combine a solid foundation of old school Praise & Worship with a flare of youthful pres- ence current enough to bring the message of Christ to the youthful ear. This 12-song offering is equally split into three styles of song: slow-tempo emotional heartstring tuggers, mid-tempo power Ballads and foot- stompin’ old school Gospel nuggets. It’s the latter of those three styles where Wilburn & Wilburn shine the brightest. Both father Jonathan and his son Jordan have pleasantly smooth vocal chops. But it’s during the more upbeat numbers where the character of their voices comes through. Standout cuts include “Heaven’s Jubilee” and “Funeral Plans” — both of which pack enough old-time revival punch to raise the roof off of any house of worship. Perhaps the most memorable track is the Bluegrass-driven “If These Old Walls Could Talk,” which tells the tale of time inside a church … from the church building’s perspective.

SHINE BRIGHT BABY | DREAMERS

Taking their name from Philippians 2, Orrville, Ohio’s Shine Bright Baby bring their fresh and inventive amal- gamation of Pop, Rock and modern Worship music and wrap it around a dance-floor friendly electronic palette. The 10-track Dreamers is the band’s debut release for BEC Recordings, an imprint of Tooth & Nail Records, formed in 1997 in partnership with the EMI Christian Music Group. The title track delivers uplifting energy and a contagious chorus. Other highlights including the redemptive “Beautiful Love” and one of the band’s personal favorites “Made To Glow.” The latter about letting God’s love shine in everyone’s daily actions. The /acoustic Ballad “Love Restores” was written in the wake of a highly publicized school shooting near the band’s hometown. The song proposes how the Lord’s love can renew even the most bro- ken circumstances. The group also shows its more aggressive side on “The Brave Ones,” a guitar-charged anthem centered on living a bold life of faith.

STEVE FREE | SHIP OF DREAMS

Those not familiar with Steve Free … think Arlo Guthrie meets Don McClean. The winner of numerous Music ® Industry Awards including 9 ASCAP Award’s, a Platinum Record and a Grammy Award nomination, Steve has charted over 30 songs on the National and International Americana, Country and Billboard Charts, including 15 No.1 songs. Fans of Folk and Americana will enjoy Steve Free’s latest offering —14 songs of pleasantry. No extremes here. The tone of this entire release is steady and moderate… with the one exception being the bouncy blues of “Find Me A Job.” The standout tracks here, oddly enough, are both odes to the love of an old dog. “Old Blue” and “Ole Link” strike a familiar chord with anyone who’s ever lost an old faithful friend. Anyone glancing at the CDs liner notes can clearly see the love of family pouring from this man. And that love is apparent throughout the entire listen.
