On Saturday morning in East Falmouth, MA, Sharon Vukich's team won the US Senior Women's Championship, and will move on Chelyabinsk, Russia to represent the United States at the World Senior Curling Championships, April 15-24. Later in the afternoon, Sean Beighton's Seattle-based team defeated Aaron Wald's Minnesota 2 squad 7-3 to wrap up the 2010 Junior National Curling Championship in Bemidji, MN. All three clubs are now combined into one organization known as Curl Mesabi. Curl Mesabi is located in the Range Recreation and Civic Center located in Eveleth, Minnesota. NW Briefs | Second-place jump for UW's Frederick FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Washington senior Norris Frederick earned his sixth career All-American honor with a career-best second-place finish in the men's long jump Friday on Day 1 of the NCAA indoor track and field championships. Frederick's second attempt of 26 feet, 2 ¾ inches was the second-best of his career. Cal State Northridge's Reindell Cole turned in a 26-7 ¾ to win the event. Washington State freshman Ebba Jungmark won the women's high jump with a clearance of 6-2 ¼. It was the second-best women's high jump in WSU history. Softball Ashlyn Watson hit a two-run home run and Alicia Blake went 3 for 3 to lead No. 20 Washington (17-6-1) past Northern Illinois 4-1 in the Cascade Clash in Portland. The game, which was delayed by an hour due to rain, was stopped after five innings due to poor field conditions. • Erin Martin (9-0) sat down all 15 batters she faced, and Seattle University pounded out 10 hits in the first three innings to cruise to a 12-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.

The event, which is hosted by the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, is held annually to acknowledge the success and achievements of Scottish curlers over the last year. Guests were welcomed at a drinks reception before the afternoon’s proceedings began with a welcome from RCCC President Pat Edington and Master of Ceremonies Alastair MacNish OBE. A presentation of teams that had medalled at international events in the 2011/12 season followed.
