FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Washington senior Norris Frederick earned his sixth career All-American honor with a career-best second-place finish in the men's long jump Friday on Day 1 of the NCAA indoor track and field championships.

Frederick's second attempt of 26 feet, 2 ¾ inches was the second-best of his career. Cal State Northridge's Reindell Cole turned in a 26-7 ¾ to win the event.

Washington State freshman Ebba Jungmark won the women's high jump with a clearance of 6-2 ¼. It was the second-best women's high jump in WSU history.

Softball

Ashlyn Watson hit a two-run home run and Alicia Blake went 3 for 3 to lead No. 20 Washington (17-6-1) past Northern Illinois 4-1 in the Cascade Clash in Portland. The game, which was delayed by an hour due to rain, was stopped after five innings due to poor field conditions.

• Erin Martin (9-0) sat down all 15 batters she faced, and Seattle University pounded out 10 hits in the first three innings to cruise to a 12-0 victory over Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.

Sandra Hernandez, Lauren Berin and Kaha Weir, the Redhawks' 3-4-5 hitters, combined to go 7 of 10 with five runs scored and seven runs batted in.

Baseball

Travis Coulter and Jim Murphy each drove in two runs to lead Washington State (11-4) to a 5-3 win over No. 25 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.

Jared Prince (2-0) picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs, seven hits and one walk in five innings.

• Evan Wells drove in six runs, and Grant Kveder was 5 for 5 with three RBI as Gonzaga (9-7) defeated New Mexico State 17-10 at the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic in Fresno, Calif.

Matt Fields (2-1) earned the victory, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out five in 5-1/3 innings.

Swimming

Jakub Jiracek earned another second-place finish on the third day of the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships in Columbia, Mo.

Jiracek broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.86 seconds. Teammate Doug

Djang earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in 55.94.

Francesca Reale became the third Redhawks female to earn All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (58.04).

Men's golf

Coming off a season-best second-place finish in its first tournament of the spring, Washington State currently is tied for sixth place at 10-over 586 in the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. The Cougars were led by Kevin Tucker, who shot a 1-under 71, good for a tie for fifth.

Other track and field

The Seattle Pacific women's distance medley relay of Jane Larson, Melissa Peaslee, Lisa Anderberg and Karin Rohde finished third in 11:45.88 at the NCAA Division II indoor championships in Mankato, Minn.

Western Washington's Christy Miller tied for 12th in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-7 ¾.

Women's tennis

Washington (10-4), ranked 37th, defeated No. 34 Washington State 6-1 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Huskies freshman standout Venise Chan, ranked 41st, picked up her fifth win against a ranked opponent, routing 44th-ranked Ekaterina Burduli 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Chan is now 13-2 in dual play and 19-4 overall.

• Gonzaga (4-11) dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of San Francisco in Irvine, Calif. The Bulldogs' lone point came at No. 6 singles, with Danielle Farmer picking up a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Sarah Oudomvilay.

Men's tennis

Washington (10-4), ranked 23rd, swept Eastern Washington 7-0 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Huskies freshman Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Pannhara Mam at No. 1 singles.

Gymnastics

Washington picked up a 194.450-188.525 victory over Seattle Pacific at Edmundson Pavilion. The Huskies got victories from Kristen Linton (all-around, 38.950); Linton, Raimey Iselin and Nikki Waiss (bars, 9.8750; Haley Bogart (vault, 9.85); Kelly Gilbert (beam, 9.775); and Samantha Walior (floor, 9.9).

Rowing

Gonzaga men's varsity crew, hitting the water for the first time this spring, defeated host UC San Diego on Mission Bay. The Bulldogs closed out the 2,000-meter course in 6 minutes, 14.7 seconds, three seconds ahead of the Tritons.

• The Brady Clark rink (Brady Clark, Cristin Clark, Darren Lehto and Bev Walter) from Seattle's Granite Club will begin competition today at the U.S. Mixed Curling Championship in Ferndale, Mich.

• The Snohomish County Explosion of the International Basketball League has added 6-foot-7 power forward Tywan Gonzales to its roster. Gonzales played at Federal Way High and Savannah State.

• Seattle's Marni Yamada finished sixth in the women's snowboard cross competition at the Jeep King of the Mountain event in Sun Valley, Calif.
