Our entertaining and informative tour guides bring the fantastic TV, radio and online productions created at BBC Birmingham to life in a variety of creative ways! Your tour guides will surprise and amaze you as they explain how we get ideas from script to screen and how production teams work right up to the wire to deliver what you see on your TV or hear on your radio. Our tour guides are as happy answering your burning questions on our broadcasting wizardry as they are explaining the ins and outs of the centre's mind-blowing technology. Between revealing our incredible Broadcast Support Centre and telling tales of the famous faces who've visited BBC Birmingham. We'll show you the inner workings of how BBC Radio Drama is made and you'll be able to have a go at making your very own radio play complete with music and sound effects. The BBC Tour offers visitors the exclusive chance to gain access to the rarely seen world behind the scenes of some of your favourite shows. BBC Birmingham is a working building so no two tours are the same, but they will always be informative, interesting and entertaining. Tours last up to one and a half hours and involve a lot of walking and standing. The building is wheelchair accessible. All children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Tours run on: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11.00 and 13.30. Maximum capacity is 20 per tour. Prices Adult £8.50 Concession (aged 60 or over) £7.75 Student £7.00 Child (under 16 years) £6.50 School child £5.50 Teacher £6.50 Due to the content of the tour, children under the age of 10 are not admitted Public Space You can also visit BBC Birmingham's Public Space tucked away on level 7 of The Mailbox. This visitor centre is open seven days a week, admission is FREE and there is no need to book. BBC Birmingham's Public Space is a basic yet fantastic introduction to the BBC; you can relax in front of the TV, go on to BBC websites or treat yourself in the large BBC Shop on the ground floor. Upstairs in the Public Space area you can try your hand at presenting the news or a weather bulletin. Look through the viewing windows into BBC WM and BBC Asian Network to see your favourite presenters live on air, while keeping a look out for Midlands Today presenters as they prepare for the latest local news bulletin. If all that wasn't enough, take a touch screen tour of the radio drama studio where The Archers is recorded. Public Space opening times: Seven days a week - Mondays to Saturdays 9.30am to 5.30pm & Sundays 11am to 5pm. Return coach from Minchinhampton £17.50 (based on 16 pers.)
