    2001 ANNUAL REPORT DuPont at 200 In 2002, DuPont celebrates its 200th anniversary. The company that began as a small, family firm on the banks of Delaware’s Brandywine River is today a global enterprise operating in 70 countries around the world. From a manufacturer of one main product – black powder for guns and blasting – DuPont grew through a remarkable series of scientific leaps into a supplier of some of the world’s most advanced materials, services and technologies.     Chapter Thirty-four “The Wisest Radical of All”: Reelection (September-November, 1864) The political tide began turning on August 29 when the Democratic national convention met in Chicago, where Peace Democrats were unwilling to remain in the background. Lincoln had accurately predicted that the delegates “must nominate a Peace Democrat on a war platform, or a War Democrat on a peace platform; and I personally can’t say that I care much which they do.”1 The convention took the latter course, nominating George McClellan for president and adopting a platform which declared the war “four years of failure” and demanded that “immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities, with a view to an ultimate convention of the states, or other peaceable means, to the end that, at the earliest practicable moment, peace may be restored on the basis of the Federal Union of the States.” This “peace plank,” the handiwork of Clement L. Vallandigham, implicitly rejected Lincoln’s Niagara Manifesto; the Democrats would require only union as a condition for peace, whereas the Republicans insisted on union and emancipation. Anything and everything that went on the air went through my department. I also selected, ordered, and wrote the lyrics for three different jingle packages from TM Century and Jam Productions. I voiced and produced the majority of all spot ads. As an Assistant Production Director/On-Air Talent at Oldies 98, WOGL-FM, a CBS owned and operated station in Philadelphia, PA., I prepared and produced on-air spot ads. I also produced all Philadelphia Phillies daily baseball promos, and produced and voiced commercial billboards for pre-game and post-game shows, and individual segments for 1210 AM, WPHT, and up and down the Phillies Radio Network. At WSTW, Wilmington, DE., I had the highest rated midday radio show in the Greater Wilmington area for seven consecutive years. That success stemmed primarily from the lunch-time all request format, and listener interaction. I also hosted a popular Saturday night all request oldies show. As a Segment Producer for a talk show at WDEL, Wilmington, DE., I scheduled guests and directed the course of the interviews.
