Challengermode Hosts Esports Program at Nordic Game 19 DreamHack and Alliance join Challengermode to talk all-things esports during Nordic Game 2019. May 07, 2019 15:54 CEST Challengermode hosts esports program at Nordic Game 19 The online competitive gaming experts at Challengermode (https://www.challengermode.com) are hosting a special esports program at Nordic Game 2019, 22-24 May in Malmö, Sweden (https://conf.nordicgame.com), featuring speakers from DreamHack, the world's largest digital festival (https://dreamhack.com) and renowned esports team Alliance (https://thealliance.gg). The esports program at NG19 will consist of three in-depth sessions starting on 23 May, examining the perspectives and expectations of tournament organizers and esports teams from game developers, publishers and their titles, as well as esports infrastructure and technology, revealing what competitive games need to break-through in esports. Opening the first session is Christoffer Elfving, esports veteran and former world champion in Counter-Strike (CS) with SK-Gaming, now key account manager at DreamHack. He will introduce the audience to the world of esports, focusing on esports tournament organization, and discuss how game developers and publishers can work together with esports organizers to make their titles as successful as possible. The second talk will feature Alliance CEO Jonathan "Loda" Berg, former Dota 2pro and world champion, revealing what game developers should know when it comes to supporting players and teams, as well as what these key esports participants expect from a title in the long-term, as both a successful competitive esports player and team owner. Online competitive gaming experts Philip Hübner and Philip Skogsberg from Challengermode will present the final session, focusing on tech and infrastructure in esports. They will reveal what developers should focus on in terms of game infrastructure to maximize potential as an esport title, including streaming, online tournaments, user engagement, and monetization. "There's no longer any doubt that esports is an entertainment phenomenon to be reckoned with. But what does this mean for game developers and publishers that are building or marketing competitive games? What makes esports a viable investment? We hope to answer these and other questions, by exploring what it takes to succeed as an esport at NG19," says Challengermode co-founder and head of product Philip Skogsberg. "We also hope that by representing the entire esports ecosystem in this special program, the talks will be engaging, informative and strengthen ties between game developers, publishers, and the esports industry." "Esports is expanding on every level, and a burning issue for the industry is how competitive gaming can be integrated into all areas of game development,” says NG19 program director Jacob Riis. “This special esports program hosted by the online competitive gaming experts from Challengermode is a fantastic addition to NG19, and I truly hope that our attendees will enjoy and benefit from it!” Don't miss this exciting esports program at NG19 - register today at conf.nordicgame.com! As a consequence, there exists rich data (in-game, audio and video) about the events that take place in matches. These data offer viable linguistic resources for generating comprehensible text descriptions of matches, which could, be used as the basis of novel text-based spectator experiences. We present a study that investigates if users perceive text generated by the NLG system as an accurate recap of highlight moments. We also explore how the text generated supported viewer understanding of highlight moments in two scenarios: i) text as an alternative way to spectate a match, instead of viewing the main broadcast; and ii) text as an additional information resource to be consumed while viewing the main broadcast. Our study provided insights on the implications of the presentation strategies for use of text in recapping highlight moments to Dota 2 spectators. KEYWORDS Esport, Data-Driven Storytelling, Dota 2, Game Analytics, Broadcasting, social viewing, Linguistic Resources, Natural Language Generation. 1. INTRODUCTION Advances in Natural language generation (NLG) and data-to-text tools have found relative success outside esport (e.g. weather forecasting, robojournalism, traditional sport summaries and fantasy football).

  • Gamesquare Deck V1.3 Optimize
GameSquare Investor Presentation V1.1 Introduction Esports is now a mainstream form of entertainment; famed Fortnite player Ninja, who has had as many as 667,000 live watchers at the same time1, was featured on the cover of ESPN The Magazine in September 2018. For perspective, NBC’s prime broadcast show The Voice had a weekly audience of about 8 MM in November 20182, putting Ninja’s audience at over 8% of this figure. Ninja is successful, earning over $350,000 per month3. Though on a per-viewer basis, this is far less than what shows such as The Voice generate. Gamesquare will improve monetization of Esports viewership to address this gap. Our proposed business model is to make an outright purchase of the streaming rights of Esports players and teams, so that we can monetize them through methods such as product placement, sponsorships, and advertising. Further demonstrating the popularity of Esports, more than 50 US colleges and universities have varsity Esports teams4. Further, Goldman Sachs anticipates the monetization of Esports will go from $655 MM (2017) to just under $3 B (2022)5. 1 https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/ninja-espn-magazine-cover-1202947409/ 2 https://www.nielsen.com/us/en/top10s.html 3 https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2018/03/09/fortnite-goD-ninja-is-making-at-least-350000-a-month- from-twitch-subscriptions/ 4 http://www.espn.com/esports/story/_/id/21152905/college-esports-list-varsity-esports-programs-north-america 5 https://www.goldmansachs.com/insights/pages/infographics/e-sports/report.pDf So, how big is
