Francis Marion The oil on canvas painting, General Marion Inviting a British Officer to Share His Meal, by Eutaw Springs artist John Blake White (1781 - 1859), memorializes the “Swamp Fox” sharing his sweet potato dinner with a British officer reported by “Parson” Mason Locke Weems in his highly romanticized The Life of General Francis Marion: A Celebrated Partisan Officer, in the Revolutionary War, Against the British and Tories in South Carolina and Georgia. This painting was presented to the United States Senate in 1899. According to the artist’s son, Octavius A. White: “the figure of Marion is a portrait from memory, as my father, when a boy, knew him well. Marion’s farm adjoined the plantation of my grandfather.” If this is true, this is the closest any artistic representation of Marion is to the artist having painted a contemporaneous image of the partisan. The Battlefield’s purpose is to preserve, protect, restore, and interpret for the benefit of the public the resources associated with the Battle of Antietam and its legacy. This plan also serves as an amendment to the 1992 Antietam National Battlefield General Management Plan; taking into account newly acquired lands not previously considered in the general management plan and evolving management decisions regarding the visitor center and several Battlefield tour roads. The environmental assessment has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended; regulations of the Council on Environmental Quality (40 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] 1500–1508); NPS Director’s Order 12: Conservation Planning, Environmental Impact Analysis, and Decision-making; and the NPS NEPA Handbook (NPS 2015). In a separate, yet parallel process, the plan is also being developed in accordance with section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Exchange St., St. Paul 1872 was an exciting year for the Ramsey family. They were able to move into their new mansion house in St. Paul. Discover what other exciting events made 1872 so important for the Ramsey's in this children's program. Children and their parents can use a timeline map to explore the Ramsey House and collect "time capsule tokens" along the way. Learn about the new foods and discover what new inventions were making life easier. Children can make their own time capsule. Lindbergh Historic Site, 1620 Lindbergh Dr. S., Little Falls Learn what life was like for Charles Lindbergh growing up on a farm during the First World War. Costumed characters portraying Lindbergh family members and neighbors will provide insights into young Charles’ interests in aviation, technology and nature. Hear inside stories about the Lindbergh family and have the chance to try some of the chores Charles did around the farm.
