There were many different teams this year from all three grades. All grades had participated with the urge of competition and sportsmanship. Tristan Rood & The Eliminators, 6th Grade, won it all this year against James Schubert & the Ravens in a heated battle. Sean Ormiston & the Un- touchables ended up defeating Taylor Patterson & the Avengers which everyone looked forward to the most. Then, Jimmy Nafziger & Team Merica ended up pummeling the Funky Bunch led by Cade Benson in an anticipated match—up that no one had expected, but was still a great match. Congratulations to all the champions! Boone is 14 years old and lives with his mother and brother in McConnell. He loves act- ing out scenes from movies and video games. He enjoys long walks on the beach. His favorite food is pizza. His favorite video game is Mortal Kombat X. His favorite color is black, because the color reminds him of life. During the summer, he looks forward to touching up on his fencing skills, so that he can return to his former Regional Champion- ship status. After talking with Boone, it is apparent that he is a very eccentric and fun person. Go talk to Boone, and you’ll realize that he’ll give you a run for your money. By: Jimmy Nafziger P A G E 6 I would like to apply for Student Leadership again this year. It was so much fun last year and I would love to do it again this year. We did so many activities to help with different causes. For each cause we would make a poster to hang up in the entry way of the Jr. High. Af- ter each activity we would hang the posters up in the guided studies room. I also got assigned to go down to help kids in Mrs. Hasellman’s room during guided studies. Doing activities to help different causes was a lot of fun and took some time. For the causes we would sell candy bars and paper ribbons (to hang up in the entry of the Jr. High). For another activity we had people shoot a football in too a trash can and if they got it in they would win a piece of candy. We also collected things for causes like the food pantry and the clothes drive. We also sell candy grams for a fun way to earn money for the school. Sean Tootelian and Mrs. Polhill have been best friends for three years. They have the type of friendship that will remain till the end of time. Mrs. Polhill loves to spoil him when Mrs. Keltner is not looking. Also, when Mrs. Polohill wins the lottery she will buy Sean a black Pick-up Truck. Mrs. Polhill states that she truly loves him. Sean says that he will truly miss her when he goes to the high school next year. He also says that she is really special to him. He really enjoys when she does the cheer that she made up just for him. The attack was a complete shock to the United States and its citizens. The attack on Pearl Harbor could have been pre- dicted with the many messages intercepted, like Telegram No. 83. Also, the United States wouldn’t have entered World War Two officially without the attack on Pearl Harbor, but they had been aiding allied countries for years. Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese had invaded China. The two coun- tries had had a series of small battles in the years before World War Two. To stop the Japa- nese from invading further, President Franklin Roosevelt put an embargo on Japan (Mcintyre 6). Japan then invaded French Indo-China to get the oil it needed to support a war. This prompted President Roosevelt to order the Pacific fleet to be moved to Pearl Harbor (Mcintyre 5). The Japanese government tried to negotiate with the United States. As negotia- tion failed, both sides prepared for war. The United States rushed to reinforce its Pacific ter- ritories, which lacked proper defense. President Roosevelt was informed that the United States wouldn’t be ready for war until spring of 1942 (Mcintyre 7). The Japanese devastated the Pacific fleet on December 7, 1941 with a surprise attack. 2,300 people were killed and 1,000 people were injured (Appleby et al.
