He is famous for setting multiple, world air-speed records, building the Hughes H-1 Racer and H-4 Hercules airplanes, producing the movies Hell's Angels and The Outlaw, owning and expanding TWA, his enormous intellect[1], and for his debilitating eccentric behavior in later life. Early years Hughes was born in Houston, Texas, on 24 September or 24 December 1905. Hughes claimed his birthday was Christmas Eve, although some biographers debate his exact birth date, (according to NNDB.com, it was most likely "the more mundane date of September 24"[2] ). His parents were Allene Stone Gano Hughes (a descendant of Catherine of Valois, Dowager Queen of England, by second husband Owen Tudor) [3][4] and Howard R. Nacido en 1980, respondió desde un inicio a la necesidad de abrir un espacio para las propuestas cinematográficas poco convencionales, innovadoras, pioneras en el uso de tecnologías de punta y formalmente arriesgadas, así como para el lanzamiento de directores y directoras debutantes. El Foro Internacional de la Cineteca Nacional se caracteriza por ser un mar propicio para la exploración. A contracorriente de las fórmulas probadas, de las miradas fáciles o de los autores consagrados, se distingue también por darle cabida a películas que no tienen lugar dentro de las clasificaciones ortodoxas. En el 2005, el 25 Foro Internacional de la Cineteca Nacional nos ofrece 15 magníficas propuestas, originarias de diversas regiones del mundo, que nos permiten sumergirnos en las aguas de la producción cinematográfica mundial.

    BEATA PIĄTEK__________________________________ A Case of Amnesia in British Heritage Cinema: Ladies in Lavender This paper was inspired by some work I have started on history, mem­ ory and identity combined with my interest in film, which I have been trying to smuggle into our very literary English Department. For some­ one working on history and identity, heritage cinema is a special treat because it uses carefully selected and stylized images of the past in order to create a sense of identity in the present-day audiences. Heritage is a development in British culture which started in late 1970s with a set of government policies, when the Conservatives under the leadership of Mrs. Thatcher embarked on a campaign to make cul­ ture, as they understood it, more accessible to the public, and therefore more profitable (Weight 2002:577). In 1983 the National Heritage Act es­ tablished the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for Eng­ land, an executive public body commonly known as English Heritage. The Commission defines its goals in the website as follows: • to conserve and enhance the historic environment, • to broaden public access to the heritage, • to increase people’s understanding of the past. The Commission have taken it upon themselves to turn history in its various forms into a tourist attraction, hence the reconstructed Viking villages in York, Roman soldiers in the streets of Chester, but also the preservation of country houses and other historic buildings.
