  • Film Shooting Manual for Shooting of Films in Delhi
FILM SHOOTING MANUAL FOR SHOOTING OF FILMS IN DELHI Delhi Tourism Govt. of NCT of Delhi 1 Message The capital city, Delhi, showcases an ancient culture and a rapidly modernizing country. It boasts of 170 notified monuments, which includes three UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well as many contemporary buildings. The city is a symbol of the country’s rich past and a thriving present. The Capital is a charming mix of old and new. Facilities like the metro network, expansive flyovers, the swanky airport terminal and modern high- rise buildings make it a world-class city. Glancing through the past few years, it is noticed that Bollywood has been highly responsive of the offerings of Delhi. More than 200 films have been shot here in the past five years. Under the directives issued by Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of I & B, the Govt. of NCT of Delhi has nominated Delhi Tourism & Transportation Development Corporation Ltd. as the nodal agency for facilitating shooting of films in Delhi and I have advised DTTDC to incorporate all procedures in the Manual so that Film Fraternity finds it user- friendly. I wish Delhi Tourism the best and I am confident that they will add a lot of value to the venture. Chief Secretary, Govt. of Delhi 2 Message Delhi is a city with not just rich past glory as the seat of empire and magnificent monuments, but also in the rich and diverse culture. Chapter – 7 : Conservation & Heritage Management IL&FS ECOSMART Chapter – 7 Conservation & Heritage Management CHAPTER - 7 CONSERVATION & HERITAGE MANAGEMENT 7.1 INTRODUCTION Heritage Resource Conservation and Management imperatives for Delhi The distinctive historical pattern of development of Delhi, with sixteen identified capital cities1 located in different parts of the triangular area between the Aravalli ridge and the Yamuna river, has resulted in the distribution of a large number of highly significant heritage resources, mainly dating from the 13th century onwards, as an integral component within the contemporary city environment. (Map-1) In addition, as many of these heritage resources (Ashokan rock edict, two World Heritage Sites, most ASI protected monuments) are closely associated with the ridge, existing water systems, forests and open space networks, they exemplify the traditional link between natural and cultural resources which needs to be enhanced and strengthened in order to improve Delhi’s environment. (Map -2) 7.1.1 Heritage Typologies – Location and Significance These heritage resources continue to be of great significance and relevance to any sustainable development planning vision for Delhi, encompassing a vast range of heritage typologies2, including: 1. Archaeological sites, 2. Fortifications, citadels, different types of palace buildings and administrative complexes, 3. Religious structures and complexes, including Dargah complexes 4. Memorials, funerary structures, tombs 5. Historic gardens, 6. Uneven Absorption: World-Class Delhi, Domestic Workers and the Water that Makes Them A DISSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA BY Heather Elaine O’Leary IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY William O. Beeman August 2014 © Heather Elaine O’Leary 2014 i Acknowledgements I gratefully acknowledge that this study could not have been completed without the help of my kin—the family I was born into and those who graciously adopted me and this project in countless ways throughout my pursuit of answers. *** Generous support was granted by: Fulbright Foundation United States Department of Education: Foreign Language and Area Studies Program University of Minnesota: Department of Anthropology Graduate School: Graduate Research Partnership Program Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship Program Interdisciplinary Center for the study of Global Change Wenner-Gren Foundation ii Dedication This dissertation is dedicated to P.D. and the women and girls of Delhi; | iii Informants and Name Meanings The names and identifying characteristics of collaborators have been changed to protect their anonymity, unless they wished to be named. The new names all were selected to reflect the cultural background and character of the collaborator. I chose to select common names that have meaning in Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, and English that are tied in with the theme of water. Some are direct, like Sanskrit “Jeevika,” which means water, while others like “Anita” derive from Urdu as the name of a goddess of water, but also reflect her role in the community with its Sanskrit meaning “a leader without guile.” Some names, like “Piyush,” are near interpretations of the theme.

What sets it apart is the multitude of historic ruins that are a part of the city's landscape. Delhi holds an embarrassment of riches in the form of countless little-known, seldom-visited, largely unheard-of tombs, nameless pavilions, mosques, madarsas, pleasure gardens, baolis, cemeteries, and much else. Neophyte New Delhi has been quick to discard most of them on the rubbish heap of history, choosing to validate a bare minimum with a name, an identity and a place of visibility.Where it was possible to make the law look the other way, many of these monuments were razed to the ground to make way for development. In this book, Rakshanda Jalil highlights these forgotten monuments, whose histories are peppered with anecdotes, making for a delightful read for history-lovers, visitors to Delhi, and indeed, residents of the city as well. The National Medical Commission Act has proposed a common exit examination — National Exit Test (NEXT), at the end of the MBBS course. This test shall be held to grant a licence to practice and will also be the basis of admission to postgraduate courses. According to the government, the NEXT will be as effective as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) which will ensure that only deserving candidates get admission in a private medical institute. o As per the earlier provisions, any student who obtains 50% marks in class 12, could gain admission to MBBS courses. o Colleges negotiated with students and conducted their own admission tests in a totally non-transparent manner. As a result, many undeserving students got admission. o Now only NEET qualified students can get admission, which ensures that merit prevails in admissions. o NEXT will ensure that there is a certain standard of medical graduates who pass out from medical colleges. FILM SHOOTING MANUAL FOR SHOOTING OF FILMS IN DELHI Delhi Tourism Govt. of NCT of Delhi 1 “I asked my soul: What is Delhi? She replied: The world is the body and Delhi its life. - Mirza Ghalib” A city full of historical wonders, Delhi has many tourist sites. Sprinkled with ruins, one can walk through timelines, from one era to another, from one world to another and from one story to another. From the ancient to the medieval and from the modern to the contemporary, one can experience the city through its monuments, forts, ruins, old and new towns that represent India’s history. Embracing two worlds, Old Delhi is a labyrinth of mysterious narrow lanes, havelis and majestic mosques and New Delhi is composed of spacious tree lined avenues, imposing government buildings and modern infrastructure. It embodies the stark, almost absurd, contrast of India: A world class metro system, the chaos of Old Delhi and the Colonial serenity of Lutyens Delhi. 2 Delhi has a rich & intense history depicting remarkable continuity and has the unique distinction of having been India’s capital longer than any other city. The city has survived all the changes of time and fortune. It has frequently changed its form, its character and its name. It has seen the rise and fall of many civilizations and empires. From Indraprastha of Mahabharata to the present New Delhi, it has grown into a mega metropolis. Due to such a rich heritage, Delhi is the home of some of the greatest architectural marvels and a culture so unique and diverse.
