The Circeo National Park lies in a territory that was deeply shaped by human activity, and represents one of the few remaining patches of plain wetland habitat in Central Italy. In this study distribution and few demographic information of the amphibians in the Park were provided. Seven species and 25 bibliographic and 84 original breeding sites were recorded, and population size estimations were carried out for a population of these three species: Pelophylax sinkl esculentus, Bufo balearicus and Rana dalmatina. For the studied populations of pool frog and green toad the oper- ational sex ratio and the demographic effective population size was also estimated. For Rana dalmatina, which is strictly associated to forest environment, a positive and significant correlation between the number of egg clutches and maxi- mum depth of the swamps was found. The State plain forest is the most important habitat for amphibians’ conservation in the park. The occurrence of dangerous alien species was investigated and they are evaluated as the major threat for amphibians in the park, especially the crayfish Procambarus clarkii in the State plain forest.

At one end of the spectrum is the view that he was an unscrupulous “chameleon” who distorted the reality of the Allies’ Liberation of Italy to suit his own interests.2 At the other is the claim that he was a true artist whose representations of the horrors of war absorb historical details into what is a consummately literary work.3 In other words, La pelle has been read either as a vulgar deformation or a poetic transcendence of the historical moment it purports to represent.4 And yet Malaparte’s narrative of the myriad social transformations following the Armistice actually combines concrete historical events (the Allies’ arrival in Naples and in Rome, the eruption of Vesuvius on March 22, 1944, and the battle of 1 Malaparte, born Kurt Erich Suckert, joined the Partito Nazionale Fascista in September 1922 and resigned in January, 1931 just before moving to France. Upon his return to Italy in October 1931, he was expelled from the party (despite having already left it) and sentenced to political exile on Lipari for five years of which he served less than two (Martellini Opere scelte xcii-xciv).

The church no longer has its vaulted ceiling or delicate stained-glass windows or rows of wooden pews; it is now an open air, nearly borderless temple occupied by a display of cypress trees, moss, lichen, roses and ivy. All that remain are these two walls – the back of the church, concave and settled in a dense bed of grass, and the front of the church, now doorless with a rope strung through it to keep visitors from crossing its threshold. This is the Church of the Santa Maria Maggiore, and it stands in the Caetani family’s Garden of Ninfa. This is a story of histories – ecological, fictional, chronological, mythological – that a single place holds in its ecologies, its ruins and in the residue of memory. This is the story of networks of water, roses, stones and roots. Some elements are imagined, others are indisputable, all of it is, I’ve decided, truthful.     Podistica Solidarietà RM069 LA PODISTICA TINFORMA Anno 14 - n. 144 settembre 2014 Carissime amiche e Carissimi amici Orange, anche quest’anno il Trofeo Podistica Solidarietà , giunto alla sua 11 a edizione , ha rappresentato uno degli appuntamenti di riferimento del mese di settembre. Sempre molto alte le adesioni alla gara/evento che rappresenta l’apertura della nuova stagione podistica oltre che un momento di incontro per podisti e famiglie. La Podistica Solidarietà oltre a rappresentare una delle realtà più affermate del podismo romano e laziale, è sempre di più una grande famiglia, per gli irrinunciabili caratteristiche che la contraddistinguono rendendola sempre più un modello di riferimento. Una nota particolare la dedichiamo ai nostri Arancini che numerosi, aiutati dalla splendida cornice storica e da una gradevole giornata ancora estiva, hanno potuto divertirsi con lo spirito migliore. Tanti occhi delle mamme e dei papà per cercare di trovare tante piccole nuove promesse della Podistica del domani. Le gare del mese vedono spiccare la Blood Runner , anche se va sottolineato che la presenza di un numero sempre maggiore di gare messe in calendario, talvolta rischia di frammentare la partecipazione, perdendo di vista le motivazioni solidali che si spingono a vincere i premi di società da poter utilizzare per numerose iniziative “solidali”. Buon terzo posto quest’anno, purtroppo ben lontani dalle straripanti partecipazioni che hanno contraddistinto le precedenti edizioni. Ma va bene anche così! Si conferma una piacevole realtà la Corsa delle Tre Ville che anche quest’anno ha potuto vantare una numerosa flotta di podisti in canotta Orange. Ancora una volta la Nostra Top Lady Paola Patta , si conferma e non finisce mai di stupire, per costanza di risultati e prestazioni, conquistando due vittorie in due settimane; l'augurio ovviamente è di continuare a ripetersi, perché quando un'Orange vince è tutta la Podistica a farlo (frase presa in prestito, grazie Forrest ).

Ormai l’estate lascia lentamente il passo all’autunno e questo dal punto di vista podistico significa essere nel pieno della preparazione delle maratone che si svolgeranno verso fine anno tra cui Firenze e Latina, da sempre appuntamenti imperdibili per molti atleti Orange. Il mese di settembre è stato caratterizzato da alcune classiche sulle distanze più brevi, in particolare menzioniamo la Millennium Running di Palombara Sabina e la Corricolonna, due gare che hanno visto la massiccia presenza dei colori orange; un’altra gara che ha destato parecchio interesse è stata la Rome Half Marathon Via Pacis, alla sua prima edizione: una mezza maratona che ha attraversato Roma incontrando lungo il suo percorso i più bei monumenti della Capitale. Da segnalare anche gli appuntamenti su pista che si sono svolti in questo mese e che hanno visto risultati di rilievo per i nostri atleti: in particolare gli Open Master e il Mennea Day che si sono svolti allo Stadio Nando Martellini alle Terme di Caracalla e la seconda prova Regionale open J/P/S/M svoltasi allo Stadio P. Giannattasio di Ostia. In questo mese di settembre abbiamo un unico resoconto da proporvi: “Il viaggio dei Giganti” del nostro Marco Stravato. Un racconto emozionante e coinvolgente che racchiude oltre 333 chilometri e quasi trentamila metri di dislivello positivo; un viaggio lungo quasi sette giorni sui sentieri della Valle d’Aosta sulle orme del mitico e leggendario “Tor de Geants”.

The Power of Images in the Age of Mussolini Abstract The year 1937 marked the bimillenary of the birth of Augustus. With characteristic pomp and vigor, Benito Mussolini undertook numerous initiatives keyed to the occasion, including the opening of the Mostra Augustea della Romanità , the restoration of the Ara Pacis , and the reconstruction of Piazza Augusto Imperatore. New excavation campaigns were inaugurated at Augustan sites throughout the peninsula, while the state issued a series of commemorative stamps and medallions focused on ancient Rome. In the same year, Mussolini inaugurated an impressive square named Forum Imperii, situated within the Foro Mussolini - known today as the Foro Italico, in celebration of the first anniversary of his Ethiopian conquest. The Forum Imperii's decorative program included large-scale black and white figural mosaics flanked by rows of marble blocks; each of these featured inscriptions boasting about key events in the regime's history. This work examines the iconography of the Forum Imperii's mosaic decorative program and situates these visual statements into a broader discourse that encompasses the panorama of images that circulated in abundance throughout Italy and its colonies.
