V.K.K. "DASA RE GA MA PA" Dasa Day Music & Dance Competitions Participation Rules Date: September 28th, 2019 Time : 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Time windows for the competitions. Vocal and Instrumental competitions: 9 AM to 1 PM Dance competitions: 1 PM to 4 PM Venue : Veluchamy Auditorium, Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple #1145, Sullivan Rd, Aurora, IL 60506 ==================================================================================== 1. All compositions must be under the category of “Devaranama” or devotional songs. Any composition by the following composers in the languages Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi will qualify for final competitions in Vocal, Instrumental & Dance. Note: Composers mentioned below have been chosen based on their invaluable contribution to the essence of Bhakti (devotion) in their respective compositions. Purandaradasa, Kanakadasa, Vijayadasa, Sripadaraja, Vyasaraja, Vadiraja, Gopaladasa, Jagannathadasa, Abhinava Janardana Vittaladasa, Helevanakatte Giriyamma, Prasanna Venkatadasa, Tulsi Das, Sur Das, Meera Bai, Narayana Theertha, Sadashiva Brahmendra, Bhadrachala Ramadasu, Jayadeva 2. Competition will be held both for solo and group performances (Vocal, Instrumental and Dance). 3. Both Carnatic and Hindustani music will be allowed if it meets the participation rules. 4. Instruments permitted: String (Violin, Veena, Guitar, Sitar), Wind (Flute/Bansuri, Saxophone), Percussion (Mridanga and Tabala, Ghata), Keyboard 5. Dance forms permitted : Classical Dance - Bharatanatya, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniattam, Odissi Note : No Folk, Sandalwood, Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood etc 6. Each music school can participate in group and solo categories as per the age limits. Ex: Group A – All kids up to 8 years, Group B – 9 to 13 years, Group C - 14 to 18 years and Group D - 18 years and above(Adult group). 7. Group size: Music (Vocal & Instrumental) : 3 to 6 participants. Dance : 2 to 4 participants. NOTE : All the participants in the group must fall under the same age group as mentioned above(#6). 8. Time limit: • Vocal/Instrumental – 5 Mins • Dance – Up to 8 mins V.K.K. "DASA RE GA MA PA" Dasa Day Music & Dance Competitions Participation Rules 9. Only song rendition is expected, no Aalapana and no Kalpana Swaras. 10. Requested details of the finalist and the item for the competition must be submitted to the committee by EOD Wed, Sep 25th. 11. VKK reserves all the rights to accept, modify, reject the participation entries. 12. Karaoke is not allowed for vocal and instrumental music competitions. 13. Participants for Dance Competition are expected to bring their own music. 14. Accompaniments (Violin & Mridangam) will be provided for vocal and instrumental competitions only for the Finals on September 28 2019. This is however optional for the participant(s) and will not be considered for the final judgement. 15. Every participant gets a participation trophy. 16. Winner and Runner up in each category will be announced and trophies will be awarded by main artist during the evening concert. 17. Judges’ decision is final and may not be contested. .

Cleaning the home with broom at night is prohibited on other days, but on amavasya it is mandatory to do so before Lakshmi Puja. and is called alakshmi nissarana. Next comes completion of chaturmasa and tulasi puja. We should try to develop a sense of looking for the glory of Lord during all these festivities.

Is the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya connected to the Madhva line? Is the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya connected to the Madhva line? – Jagadananda Das – The relationship of the Madhva-sampradaya to the Gaudiya Vaishnavas is one that has been sensitive for more than 200 years. Not only did it rear its head in the time of Baladeva Vidyabhushan, when the legitimacy of the Gaudiyas was challenged in Jaipur, but repeatedly since then. Bhaktivinoda Thakur wrote in his 1892 work Mahaprabhura siksha that those who reject this connection are “the greatest enemies of Sri Krishna Chaitanya’s family of followers.” In subsequent years, nearly every scholar of Bengal Vaishnavism has cast his doubts on this connection including S. K. De, Surendranath Dasgupta, Sundarananda Vidyavinoda, Friedhelm Hardy and others. The degree to which these various authors reject this connection is different. According to Gaudiya tradition, Madhavendra Puri appeared in the 14th century. He was a guru of the Brahma or Madhva-sampradaya, one of the four (Brahma, Sri, Rudra and Sanaka) legitimate Vaishnava lineages of the Kali Yuga. Madhavendra’s disciple Isvara Puri took Sri Krishna Chaitanya as his disciple. The followers of Sri Chaitanya are thus members of the Madhva line. The authoritative sources for this identification with the Madhva lineage are principally four: Kavi Karnapura’s Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (1576), the writings of Gopala Guru Goswami from around the same time, Baladeva’s Prameya-ratnavali from the late 18th century, and anothe late 18th century work, Narahari’s

I thought of introducing Sri Sri Vadiraja through this website and hope and pray Sri Vadiraja Guru Sarvabhouma would help me complete my mission. I readily accept that I am an unknown entity and my knowledge is limited and a student in the process of learning. If I knowingly or unknowingly make any mistake please forgive me and correct my mistakes... :Introduction: Sri Vadiraja Tirtha was a contemporary of Sri SriPadaraja thirtha and Sri Vyaasa Tirtha (Previous Incarnation of Sri Raghavendra Swamy) and also his disciple. He is considered to be one of the pillars of Dasa movement. He was a great leader and guiding spirit of both the Vyasakuta and Dasakuta. Sri SriPadaraja, Sri Vyaasaraja and Sri Vadiraja are together called as 'Yathi Trayaru', the three great saints in Dasa movement. a. Sri Padaraja is the beginner and considered the grandfather of Dasa's, b. Sri Vadiraja promoter of dasa sahitya. c. Sri Vyaasaraja has made dasa movement more popular by leading a set of esteemed disciples. A point worth noting here is that all these three stalwarts of Dwaitha Philosophy were staunch followers of Sri Madwacharya and believed that HIS philosophy and Hari Bhakti was not limited to only Brahmins but to the society as a whole.

Kakolu: a Place of Rustic Serenity
Kakolu: a place of rustic serenity The metropolitan city of Bangalore is not just a hub of IT and Business czars. Driving through the traffic lanes with irksome stales of traffic jams may not find a relief at the heart of the city. However, one is sure to find a sigh of relief at the outer regions of the famed city. Driving ahead in Bangalore north, one cannot afford to miss the rustic prospect of kakolu, a village near the proximity on the main road rather less known to the localities of the Bangalore city. Though bestowed with a gait of spirituality and scenic beauty, the place is not well off the major roadway. As we move ahead the Yelahanka-Doddaballapur Road across 35 KM, the main road is intercepted by the place of Rajankunte with a rustle of a market place on the main road. A very familiar deviation from here of about 5 kms across a fairly good road would take us to Kakolu village. The village abounds with a touch of antiquity together with a feel of calmness and spiritual touch for a must visit for those seeking a solace. The history of the place dates back to the times of the famed Vijayanagara Empire reminding us of unique idols and significant symbology of the Hindu pantheon of gods and goddesses. Regional legend of the Kakolu ascribes the place as being ruled by a subordinate ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire originally belonging to “Chelooru Chavadi” which is now submerged in the Hesaraghatta lake. There is an inscription on the walls of Sri Chandramouleshwara temple at Hesaragatta referring this.
