Your contributions would be most welcome along with your feedback. Burns Night January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns and the Harrogate Touchline Internationals, always looking for an excuse for a celebration, would traditionally join together for a night out and a wee dram. Roy Guy recalls one Burns Night in particular. ‘Thinking of this took me back to a TI Burns Night Supper held at Claro Road in the small room later used as an office. My outstanding recollections are that the room was overcrowded, and I spent the evening being jammed against the wall by a very large Leo Niemic. When it was time to toast the haggis someone produced what was said to be a Burns first edition poetry book and the owner, together with our greatly lamented Glyn Smith, whilst attempting to find the correct passage, recklessly handled and thumbed through it as though it was a cheap magazine. Alcohol may have played a part in their behaviour.’ The photograph shows some of the TIs in the Claro Road office ready to celebrate. • The Comparison of Competitive Balance
International Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge Issue 1/2016, Volume 4 DOI: 10.1515/ijek-2016-0009 THE COMPARISON OF COMPETITIVE BALANCE BETWEEN SUPER RUGBY (SANZAR) AND ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP RUGBY: A CASE STUDY FROM 1996-2014 SEASON OR NOT ATTRACTIVE NO PEOPLE NO MONEY Robert KUCHAR1and Andy MARTIN2 ABSTRACT Most sports are attractive because they are almost unpredictable. The more the competitiveness of league teams, the harder to predict the games and as a result, that league will be more attractive. Message is: more attractive leagues= bigger audience= more attractive for sponsorship= more money in sport. Competitive balance (CB) refers to the balance in sport capabilities of teams. The aim of this paper was to compare the competitive balance between Super Rugby league named SANZAR, which consist of three nations (New Zealand, Australia and South Africa) and English Premiership Rugby League in 1996-2014 seasons and compare them. The data were secondary and collected from the final tables. It was used five models in this study: the three-club and five-club concentration ratio (C3 and C5) and C3/C5 index of competitive balance (C3ICB/C5ICB) were used to analyse the data. The less the index C3ICB/C5ICB and C3/C5 are, the more competitive balance is, and conversely. Standard deviation of game results, the ratio of actual and ideal standard deviation wins, numbers of winners and a placement in the k-th place. The results showed that the Salary cap in Premiership League does not work very effectively and the competitive balance is in last few seasons still worst and worst.

  • Rotherham Rugby Club Ltd
ROTHERHAM RUGBY CLUB LTD Herringthorpe Playing Fields Project - FACTS NOT MYTHS MYTH - Rotherham Titans are leasing part of the playing fields from the council FACT – The proposed lease is between RMBC and Rotherham Rugby Club Ltd not Rotherham Titans. Rotherham Rugby Club Ltd is a not for profit company whose primary objective is “To promote the playing of and the active participation in amateur rugby union football within the local community”. The company is entirely owned by its members and is run entirely by volunteers. Rotherham Titans are owned by a totally separate company Rotherham RUFC (2004) Ltd. There are no directors of RRCL who are also directors of Rotherham RUFC 2004 Ltd MYTH – The lease might be with RRCL but we all “know” that it’s really for the Titans FACT – Absolutely not true! The facility on Herringthorpe would primarily be for the amateur rugby teams of Rotherham Phoenix RUFC - mini-juniors, colts and seniors. In addition the lease allows for 12 hours per month of free usage by the councils Sport Development Team. The facility will also be available for hire by other groups (e.g. amateur sports teams and schools). Rotherham Titans have little need for floodlit training facilities as they train during the day. If the Titans do want to use the facility it will be on the same basis as other groups. MYTH – This is the thin end of the wedge. Once the precedent is set where will it stop! FACT – It seems somewhat unfair to burden RRCL with the responsibility for the future of Herringthorpe Playing Fields.

We sincerely hope that Nottingham enjoy the day, our humble facilities and traditional rugby hospitality. This is our first foray into the Green King IPA Championship. Our visitors are seasoned professionals having played at this level of competition for many years. They finished eighth in the league last year placing them in the top 20 clubs in the Country, so our task this afternoon is huge. Nottingham went down last week at the Bay to Cornish Pirates 42 – 7 in the Championship Cup. Head Coach Neil Fowkes gave his full squad the chance of a run out in the Cup but make no mistake a full-strength Nottingham will be on the paddock to face Ampthill. Ampthill 1st XV have played a couple of tricky games, namely Coventry and former Cup Champions, Ealing, before a really great afternoon last Saturday at near neighbours, Bedford RFC. Ampthill played well defensively and scored four great tries for a bonus point win. The evening celebrations saw a couple of shandies consumed in the marquee by the A’s faithful.
