PROGRAMME £3 AMPTHILL V. COVENTRY 11TH JANUARY 2020 KICK OFF 1.45PM PRIMARY PARTNER SENIOR PARTNERS Primary Partner: Ampthill & District Community Rugby Club Limited Senior Partners: Dillingham Park, Woburn St, Ampthill, Bedford, MK45 2HX www.ampthillrufc.com Tel: 01525 403303 Vat Reg No. 196 7536 11 Registered in England and Wales 00629333 WELCOME Chairman’s welcome to Ealing Trailfinders For today’s Green King IPA Championship match and for the second time this season, we offer a warm Bedfordshire welcome to our friends from Coventry RUFC to Dillingham Park. You will probably know that Coventry have been here during the National 1 campaign but last year they played in the Green King IPA Championship finishing in 8th position. Coventry is not too far from Ampthill, so we hope to see a good following making the trip down to add to what is bound to be a great atmosphere. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the Mayor of Ampthill, Mr Ian Titman, the Lady Mayoress, Ms Maggie Fuller and the Mayor’s honourable guests to our club lunch. I hope you enjoy the day. Our last fixture against the visitors was at the Butts Park Arena where we were given a bit of a rugby lesson. The final score was 64-26 with the home side throwing the ball around and attacking from all over the park. Let us hope our defence holds firm today during the league encounter. Coventry currently lie in a very creditable 3rd place in the league, having won four matches and drawn one (two points behind Cornish Pirates in the 2nd spot).

Gate Post Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club Founded 1871 Gate Post No. 119 February 2021 This newsletter is sent to all the supporters, current and past members of Harrogate Rugby Club for whom we have an email address. Your contributions would be most welcome along with your feedback. Burns Night January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns and the Harrogate Touchline Internationals, always looking for an excuse for a celebration, would traditionally join together for a night out and a wee dram. Roy Guy recalls one Burns Night in particular. ‘Thinking of this took me back to a TI Burns Night Supper held at Claro Road in the small room later used as an office. My outstanding recollections are that the room was overcrowded, and I spent the evening being jammed against the wall by a very large Leo Niemic. When it was time to toast the haggis someone produced what was said to be a Burns first edition poetry book and the owner, together with our greatly lamented Glyn Smith, whilst attempting to find the correct passage, recklessly handled and thumbed through it as though it was a cheap magazine. Alcohol may have played a part in their behaviour.’ The photograph shows some of the TIs in the Claro Road office ready to celebrate. Left to right: Gordon Ogilvie, Brian Hemming, Glyn Smith, Malcolm Spark, David Bowen. Who’s Who Fotherby, David. Junior Chairman and Ground Secretary 2005 to 2007. Fowler, George. George appears on the Colts team photograph in 1948 and on the 1st XV photograph 1952/1953.

  • The Comparison of Competitive Balance
International Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge Issue 1/2016, Volume 4 DOI: 10.1515/ijek-2016-0009 THE COMPARISON OF COMPETITIVE BALANCE BETWEEN SUPER RUGBY (SANZAR) AND ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP RUGBY: A CASE STUDY FROM 1996-2014 SEASON OR NOT ATTRACTIVE NO PEOPLE NO MONEY Robert KUCHAR1and Andy MARTIN2 ABSTRACT Most sports are attractive because they are almost unpredictable. The more the competitiveness of league teams, the harder to predict the games and as a result, that league will be more attractive. Message is: more attractive leagues= bigger audience= more attractive for sponsorship= more money in sport. Competitive balance (CB) refers to the balance in sport capabilities of teams. The aim of this paper was to compare the competitive balance between Super Rugby league named SANZAR, which consist of three nations (New Zealand, Australia and South Africa) and English Premiership Rugby League in 1996-2014 seasons and compare them. The data were secondary and collected from the final tables. It was used five models in this study: the three-club and five-club concentration ratio (C3 and C5) and C3/C5 index of competitive balance (C3ICB/C5ICB) were used to analyse the data. The less the index C3ICB/C5ICB and C3/C5 are, the more competitive balance is, and conversely. Standard deviation of game results, the ratio of actual and ideal standard deviation wins, numbers of winners and a placement in the k-th place. The results showed that the Salary cap in Premiership League does not work very effectively and the competitive balance is in last few seasons still worst and worst.
