 HEAD COACH REPORT

GARRETT McDULING

Welcome to all the players, sponsors, supporters and officials of both Floreat Athena and ECU Joondalup SC to E&D Litis Stadium for our penultimate home fixture.

Both teams arrive into this clash after picking up a point in their previous match. ECU drew 1-1 with Inglewood whilst Athena drew with Sorrento 3-3. Whilst the draw felt like a loss due to the fact we dominated the first 60 minutes, it was a stern reminder similar to Adelaide that intensity and tempo needs to be adhered to for the full duration of the match. The small consolation was that the point has all but guaranteed Athena a top four birth which was one of our goals prior to the season starting.

Obviously we are pushing for a top 2 finish however we need to take each game as it comes and this week we are looking forward to playing ECU who I am sure have very particular goals in place for their final 3 matches of the season.

Whilst we are at the pointy end of the table it has not stopped us from bring through youngsters from the 20’s to gain first team experience. Last weekend young Adam Falcone scored a brace after just 12 minutes opening up his account for the season with Athena and earning his second start of the season with the first team. Three other 18 year olds also featured in the match with Jack Painter-Andrews starting along with George Festa and Robert Harding coming off the bench. Whilst we know these young players are the future of the club its important to get the right balance and provide both them and the club the right formula to succeed in each game we play. Whilst Dean Evans, Dennis Galan , , Marco San- talucia and Jon Stynes were all unavailable this was not only an opportunity for the young players to come in but also the right time of the season for them to prove their worth as we already start forward playing behind the scenes for next season.

The Athena boys have proved their resilience this season and the ability and desire to bounce back after adversity whilst ECU are making a strong push to stay in this league where they have had so much success in the past so I am sure this match will be action packed!

Our support staff, Dr Emma Black, Ethan Burke, Jesse Deas and David Kist have also been an integral part to our team allowing both myself and the players to receive live and post match Heart Rate and GPS data, Video Analysis, Match Analytics and Opposition Analysis. Our head physio Fred Vanin ensures the players receive the latest Sports Science recovery and injury prevention methods whilst our team manager Jimmy Campbell supports in every possible way. I would like to welcome Tim Cash as a now permanent member of my coaching staff as my assistant coach where he was previously the Head Coach of the 20’s.

Finally I would like to thank the Club, the sponsors, community and supporters for being part of this ter- rific journey and we hope to continue to excite all involved.

We hope for a great game today and I would like to invite Dale to share a bite to eat and drink with all the ECU Joondalup SC players and staff after the game in the Clubhouse.

Enjoy the football today,

In the last game against, we were defeated 1-2. I am pleased that the squad included six players from the 18s squad. Five of the 20s squad were promoted to the first team and the player development program at the Club can be seen to be working. In the Sorrento game, Jason Rule scored a fine goal and there were strong performance from Cam McLean and Reuben Thew. Special mention to first team keeper, Jordan Barbas who provides strong leadership each 20s game that he plays. Season 2020 is about to start! This is a time to plan for 2020 whilst finishing season 2019 with professionalism and desire. Have a great day at E & D Litis Stadium and thank you for the vocal support and as always we hope to repay you with effort and a high quality display today. This season so far has been a huge test for our U18’s players here at Athena. Full credit to the boys who still strive week in week out to get down to training and engage in wanting to learn and be better. Two weeks ago, we played Perth City here at home and won 2-1 which was a thrilling in-counter for us! We fully deserved the win and stuck to our game plan which pulled off this massive victory. Last week things did not go our way but there were some positives to take away from the game, such as giving a few of our U16’s a ran out and seeing them play senior football. This season has been tough but with three games left and 9 points up for grabs our mentality is to challenge for everything. We will fight right till the end. I hope everyone enjoys the match! Thanks, Kieran Davies.

To our sponsors , members & volunteers MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB FAFC V ECU

Firstly we’d like to welcome the players and coaching staff from ECU Joondalup. We know today won’t be an easy match. There are only three matches left in the season and there’s a lot riding for both teams. For us a win will provide an opportunity to cement a spot in the top two but we know ECU come to Litis Stadium hungry with a lot of pride on the line. Needless to say we expect another passionate affair between our two sides.

You may have witnessed a few changes at the back of the Litis Stadium recently where the City of Vincent has designed a bike path for the community, which incorporates good use of land and access to our beloved club. If you haven’t seen it please take a look (on the Britannia Road reserve side) while you’re roaming around today. Better still, if you happen to have a bike stowed in the back of the car, then why not take it out and go for a ride!

Last but not least a big thanks and congratulations to our board member Izabela Komadina who was success- ful in securing a $4500 Healthway grant for the junior canteen. Izabela and her team of generous volunteers on the junior committee are the heroes of our club and we can’t thank them enough for what they do week- in week-out.

Also we’d like to acknowledge the Hellenic Club of WA for graciously donating $4000 to Athena. It comes down to generous and philanthropic donations like this which keep our club ticking along to ensure our beautiful game for everyone to enjoy continues.

Thank you and best of luck to both teams today.

Board of Floreat Athena FC JUNIOR REPORT

2019 has been an excellent year for the Floreat Athena Juniors U13 to U16 age group. We have four per- forming NPL teams and two improving development teams which is a 50% increase in the number of players from the 2018 season. In particular credit goes to newly appointed U16s coach Frank Marriano who has selected and managed a great group of players in that age group and despite losing players to the U18s and elsewhere has continued to attract and retain replacement players.

The mid-season break saw three of our NPL teams narrowly finish in third division after crucial losses to In- glewood on the final game for that part of the season. The NPL U14s narrowly missed out on finishing in first division, after losing several players to growth injuries as the season progressed. Technical Director Dr Fadi Maayah said, “the appointment of three new NPL coaches for the 2019 season has paid off in terms of results and I am pleased with the overall quality of training that our NPL players are receiving”.

The newly created U14s development team has had an competitive season to date in Division One com- ing up against some experienced teams. The loss of the original goal-keeper was an issue early on but the replacement goal-keeper has done an excellent job and is developing well under the specialised goal-keeper training kindly provided by Jordan Barbas.

The U13s development team is a combination of U12s and U13s players and are gaining confidence as they transition from Mini-roos to the bigger pitch and professional refereeing in the JBL competition. Credit to Gabe Tana and Con Poulios for securing a Puma deal to deliver new training and playing kits for the NPL teams. Thank you Junior Committee FAFC SPONSORS
