Athena go into this game after recent success in the FFA cup against Kingsway. After a tight first half Athena started to create more chances in the second period and through a Phil Arnold cross, Nick Ambrogio was able to convert a well headed back post goal. Soon after the club captain Dean Evans came provider this time for Rob Petcov to make it 2-0. Jon Stynes was again on the scores sheet making it 3-0 on the 79th minute as we now await the next draw of the cup. Our last league match was away to a young ECU side who besides their youth did test us however our early tempo proved too good. On the 7th minute Jon Stynes was on the score sheet who was assisted by a Phil Arnold cross. On the 23rd minute Rob Petcov found himself in a 1 on 1 situation and calmly rounded the keeper to double Athena’s lead. The third goal was just around the corner as Stynes crossed for Arnold who had his first shot well saved by the keeper however Arnold made no mistake with the rebound and gave Athena a terrific early 3-0 lead on the 30th minute. During the second period we still created chances and Adrian Madaschi went close however his goal bound shot was blocked by team mate Rob Petcov. The win made it 4 league wins on the trot with Athena starting to display the kind of football we produced during the night series. The season however is long and I have asked for individual consistent performances that will then make up the collective. Today will be a tough test and I would like to welcome the recently appointed new head coach Trevor Morgan and wish him and his staff all the best for the rest of the season. It has proven to be a tough start for the Lions to the season however they were in a similar position last year and managed to find some form towards the back end of the season. Under Trevor’s leadership we know the Lions will be up for it today so Athena will have to be at our recent best form to ensure we take away the full points on offer today. I would finally like to congratulate both our 18’s and 20’s NPL teams who both secured fantastic cup wins on the weekend ensuring all three teams progress to the next round of the cup. Well done to Kieran Davis, Tim Cash and all your support staff with not only the fantastic cup result but with everything you do to help develop the future of Athena. Our head physio Fred Vanin has been very busy of late with a few minor injuries. We hope to see Tom Jebb return this week after a knee injury along with Ryan Malton who suffered a groin injury recently whilst Ludo Boi also not far away after a hamstring strain. Our support staff, Dr Emma Black, Ethan Burke, Jesse Deas and David Kist have also been an integral part to our team allowing both myself and the players to receive live and post-match Heart Rate and GPS data, Video Analysis, Match Analytics and Opposition Analysis. Our head physio Fred Vanin ensures the players receive the latest Sports Science recovery and injury prevention methods whilst our team manager Jimmy Campbell supports in every way shape and form. Finally I would like to thank the Club, the community and supporters for being part of this terrific journey and we hope to see the 2019 season reap great rewards. We hope for a great game today and I would like to invite Trevor Morgan to share a bite to eat and drink with all the Stirling players and staff after the game in the Clubhouse. Enjoy the football today, CONDOLENCES Garrett McDuling Dear John, Larry & Doropoulos family, Head Coach All at Floreat Athena Football Club wish to extend their condolences for the sad loss of your brother in-law, Laurie Pandopoulos. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. The 2010/11 year has been a successful one continuing on from recent years under the stewardship of our former Chairman, Kevin Campbell, whom I must sincerely commend for handing the organisation on in such a fine state. As you will note from the financial statements that follow, we have continued to improve our financial position with a modest but handy surplus. Whilst a surplus is always nice, Football West is about much more than that. It allows us to trade through the lean times without the need for an overdraft facility. The breadth and extent of some our various programs never ceases to amaze me. Whilst on the subject of finances, the Board and I continue to be aware of the increasing cost of playing sport, and this season we were pleased to be able to put a freeze on the fees you pay to be part of the World game.
