September 2019 Newsletter Message from the Principal Principal Welcome to the first newsletter of the Academic year. Mr M Snelson Thank you to parents/carers for supporting the Academy in maintaining our high standards, as discussed with students in my first Assemblies, “If you dress smart, you think smart” and over the last four weeks, I have seen plenty of evidence of students thinking and dressing smartly. Your continued support is very much appreciated. Full details of our uniform are found on the school website http://www.leftwichhigh.com/uniform-guidelines.html. Thank you also to my Senior Leadership Team, Middle Leaders, Teachers and Support Staff for the way they have supported me in my new role as Principal. The calm and purposeful atmosphere of the Academy is a consequence of all colleagues’ consistent and diligent approach to reminding students what it is to be a County High School, Leftwich student: a student who takes up as many opportunities as possible; attends and is punctual; listens, questions and thinks hard. During my Assemblies so far this term, I have spoken to students about our drive to develop their comprehension and command of knowledge and skills, their character and their creativity and imagination. I spoke about: the importance of knowledge, which Socrates described as “the one good”, the importance of warm welcomes and acts of kindness and what the picture of our lives would ounty High School, Leftwich ounty High look like, which parts would we like to keep, and which would we rather remove? I stressed to students that they are in charge of the decisions that make up the picture of their lives. Well done to the class of 2019. I am immensely proud that all students left the Academy with at least six GCSEs including in English, Maths and Science. This is testament to our fully inclusive approach, where all students have the The C opportunity to achieve their academic potential. Whilst thrilled for all the students, one student deserves a special mention as she achieved 10 Grade 9s (the top grade possible). Further details of just how successful the class of 2019 were in their examinations will be published during October when the Progress 8 score is released. Finally, thank you to our current students for the mature, sensible and hardworking start to the Academic year. The Academy has been consistently proud for many years of students' excellent performance on all of its courses.
