Classic Antone's Poster Antone's also recorded and release a number of albums under Antone's Records by blues greats like James Cotton, Ronnie Earl, Memphis Slim, and Matt "Guitar" Murphy and younger players like Angela Strehli and Marcia Classic Antone's Poster Ball. Antone's blues club in Austin may is the best-known blues venue in the southwest, and maybe in the whole country. Started by Clifford Antone in 1975, this blues venue has hosted all the great blues players, everyone from Jimmy Reed, Fats Domino, Big Walter Horton, Jimmy Reed to John Lee Hooker and Percy Mayfield. Younger blues artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds (the house band for years), Lou Ann Barton, and others frequented Antone's and learned their craft. Classic Antone's Poster Antone's posters and flyers feature Texas artists like Guy Juke, Sam Yeates, and most of all the wonderful work of Danny Garrett. Antone's has always been vigorously collected by a small group, but in recent years more and more collectors are getting into this Classic Posters - Antones Blues Club great venue and the prices for Antone's items have been inching up. Antone's has been a steady source for great music for decades. That history is reflected in the many fine posters and handbills for that venue, some of them stunning like this large handbill for John Lee Hooker.

B L U E I N K APRIL 2016 Gator By the Bay Brings Musicians Together in Exciting Pairings Now in its 15th year, Gator By the Bay, May 5-8, 2016, has become a wildly popular San Diego festival tradition known for presenting an eclectic mix of musical styles and a fun- filled atmosphere. Wander among the festival’s seven stages and you can listen to everything from authentic Louisiana Cajun and Zydeco music to Chicago and West Coast Blues, from Latin to Rockabilly and Swing. In recent years, Gator By the Bay has also earned a stand-out reputation for bringing together stellar combinations of musicians in innovative mash-up performances, presenting musical groupings you won’t hear anywhere else. This year is no exception. On Saturday, May 7, San Diego’s own multiple gold guitarist Johnny Vernazza will share the Mardi Gras Stage with blues greats Roy Rogers and John Németh. Often lauded as the “Master of the Slide Guitar”, Roy Rogers’ distinctive style is instantly recognizable. He’s shared duets with such greats as John Lee Hooker and Allen Toussaint, and teamed up with the likes of Norton Buffalo and Ray Manzarek. Harmonica virtuoso, vocalist and songwriter John Németh has multiple Blues Music Awards nominations to his name, and his album, ‘Memphis Grease’, won Best Soul Blues Album at the 2015 Blues Music Awards. He has been nominated for the Blues Music Awards 2016 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Award, to be given out on May 5. Bio Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters Please bill as Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters Ronnie Earl, Guitar Legendary Blues guitarist Ronnie Earl is a three time Blues Music Award winner as Guitar Player of the Year, most recently receiving the award on May 8, 2014 in Memphis. He has served as an Associate Professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music, and has taught at the National Guitar summer workshop in Connecticut. In 1995 Ronnie released Ronnie Earl: Blues Guitar with Soul, an instructional VHS tape that was then rereleased in DVD format in 2005. Earl’s discography includes acclaimed albums on Stony Plain Records, Black Top, Bullseye Blues, Verve, and Telarc. His 1996 Bullseye Blues release, Grateful Heart: Blues and Ballads, won Downbeat Magazine’s Blues Album of the Year, and in 2004 Earl’s Hey José won the Best Blues/R&B Song at the 3rd Annual Independent Music Awards. In 2014, Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters celebrated 26 years as a band. The last three releases by Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, Spread the Love (2010), Just for Today (2013), and Good News (2014), all debuted on the top ten Billboard Blues charts and received wide critical acclaim. FROM OUR PRESIDENT, RICK BALLEW: Hey Blues Family: We've got a new home for The Charlotte Blues Society. The Rabbit Hole, 1801 Commonwealth Avenue, in Plaza-Midwood. The first gathering is Sunday March 5, 2017 with The Bill Miller Band. Most of you were there in November and gave us very positive feedback. The management of The Rabbit Hole approached us and opened their doors to whatever we needed to make the transition of moving from The Double Door Inn, as smooth as possible. And they are giving more than we asked for. The Charlotte Blues Society will continue to meet on the First Sunday of every month. Drink specials include a $5 Vodka drink, a $5 Whiskey, $3 Blue Moon and $3 PBR Tall, every Blues Sunday. Parking is Free and across the street at Sammy's Deli. This parking lot is regularly patrolled by bike cops, foot cops and plain clothes. An incredibly safe place. The Rabbit Hole will hang a permanent Charlotte Blues Society banner in the entry. Johnny Nicholas Is One of the Best Bluesmen Ever, Black Or White

Those who knew him knew that he always got to the point. His description of his long time friend and musical comrade in arms is succinct and quite a heady compliment, but then, Johnny Nicholas is an amazing talent. For four decades Johnny’s consummate musicianship and vocal skills have graced live music scenes across the country and abroad. He has toured, performed and recorded with many true blues and Americana Roots Music legends including: Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Lockwood Jr., Johnny Shines, Big Walter Horton, Roosevelt Sykes, Nathan Abshire, Robert Pete Williams, Eddie Taylor, Billy Boy Arnold, Hound Dog Taylor, Johnny Young, Houston Stackhouse, and Boogie Woogie Red. He recorded and toured with Johnny Shines and Snooky Pryor, producing and playing guitar on their W.C. Handy Award-winning album Back to the Country. He was a lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with Asleep at the Wheel when they won their first of many Grammy Awards. He gave Blues Guitar Icon Ronnie Earl his first gig in the now legendary band Guitar Johnny and the Rhythm Rockers. INFORMATION FOR MEDIA PARTNERS KIRK FLETCHER BURNING BLUES LIVE AT THE BAKED TOMATO, LOS ANGELES “Kirk Fletcher is without a doubt one of the best blues gu- itarists worldwide.” This quote is by none less than blues rock superstar Joe Bonamassa, and it hits the nail on the head. Not least his wonderful live album “Burning Blues”, recor- ded at LA’s Baked Potato Club in December 2013, sees Fletcher prove why he is considered to be one of the most technically accomplished and at the same time pas- sionate guitarists on the scene. Right from the initial licks Even before this live recording, the 40-year old had already made his mark, having toured with blues legends such as James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Mojo Buford and Ronnie Earl and playing from an early age with virtuoso artists such as Larry Carlton, Robben Ford and Michael Landau – with whom he has just retur- ned from a number of concerts in Asia. Fletcher achieved his first major success ten years ago as a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Together with his counterpart, the late guitarist Nick Curran, who passed away much too soon, Fletcher made a dream team. The two guitarists could not have been more different, and together they breathed new life into the band from Austin. Since its early days with Jimmie Vaughan, the group surrounding frontman Kim Wilson had never sounded as good as it did with Curran and Fletcher. Fletcher is a perfect sideman because he listens to what his co-musicians play – a fact which top stars from other genres have been quick to recognise.
