If when queried, correctness cannot be proven, the entry in question shall not be accepted. If already accepted the entry may be cancelled or the exhibit may be disqualified, and any award made to it cancelled. No refunds will be given if the incorrect class is listed on the entry form.

If any wilful misstatement or incorrectness shall at any time be proved to have been made in any certificate, either in connection with the Shows of this Society or any other Agricultural Society, the offenders shall (at the discretion of the Show Manager) be disqualified from exhibiting at the Shows of this Society. If such certificate relates to an animal which has been or shall be awarded a prize at this Society’s Show, the prize shall be withheld.

Any animal having failed to pass the dentition test at any other Show shall forthwith be disqualified.

5. REJECTION The Show Manager supported by the Council reserves the right to reject or cancel the entry or entries made by any person if they shall deem fit to do so. No reason has to be provided.

ARRIVAL AND TRANSIT OF ANIMALS 12. ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE Livestock Arrival - Thursday 4 July 2019 All Livestock (Cattle, Sheep, Pigs and Goats) must arrive on site 7.00am - 5.00pm. If unexpected circumstances arise, resulting in the arrival after 5.00pm on Thursday 4 July 2019, please phone the Show Office (open until 6.00pm). Security will not allow access to vehicles delivering livestock after this time unless the Show Office has given permission. Livestock must complete the relevant bio-security checks prior to entering the Show.

Livestock Departure - Sunday 7 July 2019 Exhibitors will be allowed entry to the Showground from 5.00pm unless directed otherwise by the Society’s Chief Veterinary Officer or Health and Safety Consultant.

13. THE WELFARE OF ANIMALS (IN TRANSIT) ORDER 2006 Livestock transported to the Show by a haulier must in general be accompanied by a current Transport Certificate.

All exhibitors must ensure that they comply fully with the current legislation issued by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs regarding the EU Welfare of Animals in Transport Regulation and are able to provide the appropriate documentation at the Show to the relevant governing authority.

For the purposes of this article, mammals shall not be considered fit for transport if they are; a) Unfit animals (see DEFRA website Annex 1 Chapter 1 of Council Regulation 1/2005). b) Pregnant female animals that have reached the latest stage of gestation (within 10% of the estimated time of the gestation before birth) and for a period of one week after giving birth. c) Very young animals except if the journey is less than 100 km, eg calves of less than 10 days of age, pigs less than 3 weeks of age and lambs of less than one week. d) Calves of less than 14 days of age on journeys exceeding 8 hours will not be permitted.

14. SECURITY All animals must be brought properly secured within a livestock vehicle to the satisfaction of the Stewards of

15 the section, or they will not be admitted to the Showground.

15. FORAGE Straw for first litter will be provided free of charge on Thursday 4 July; subsequently exhibitors must provide their own, together with all provender required during the time their animals are on the Showground.

VETERINARY 16. CONTAGION Every exhibitor of any animal which to their knowledge is suffering from any contagious or infectious disease, or which has been in contact with any animal suffering as such, shall pay the Society £50 as compensation and for liquidated damages for each and every animal so sent. In addition, in the event of the Society’s Veterinary Inspector certifying that any animal sent for exhibition is in his opinion a possible source of danger, such animal shall be removed with due speed by the Participant, from the Showground, or be otherwise managed as per the Veterinarian’s direction with a view to averting the spread of contagion.

17. VETERINARY TREATMENT It is a condition of entry that the Society’s Veterinary Officers may treat any animal in an emergency and agree the best course of action (including dispatch if necessary) whether or not the owner/exhibitor is present. If emergency veterinary treatment is required at the Show, exhibitors will be responsible for the cost of any medication or drugs used in the treatment of their animals and payment must be made direct to the veterinary officer at the time of treatment.

Any animal that is receiving veterinary treatment at the time of the Show should not be entered unless the owner has had the animal examined by their own Vet and it is safe for them to enter the Show. However, animals still showing evidence of disease will not be permitted to be shown; the ultimate decision will rest with the Kent County Show Veterinary Officers.

18. MISUSE OF DRUGS The Society reserves the right to take blood and urine samples from any animal at the Show to test for the presence of illegal or banned substances.

HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS AND INSURANCE 19. RULES AND REGULATIONS Exhibitors must have read and understood the Rules and Regulations for Livestock and their specific section.

All handlers must be competent and experienced to compete at the level of competition in which entered. Handlers must be 18 years of age or over to exhibit in the livestock main lines (excluding the Young Handler classes).

Respectful language and attitude will be expected at all times towards volunteer stewards, judges and other competitors.

20. NO SMOKING Strictly no smoking in any buildings or marquees on the Showground.

21. ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION Alcohol is prohibited within all Livestock Marquees/Lines during the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm on each Show day.

22. HEALTH AND SAFETY The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards.

16 23. PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE All livestock exhibitors must ensure they have adequate public liability insurance cover.

24. DOGS Exhibitors must ensure that their dogs are kept quiet, under strict control and on leads at all times whilst on the Showground itself, the Livestock Camping Area or the car parks. Members of the public will not be allowed to bring their dogs inside the exhibition areas. Therefore, exhibitors’ dogs will only be allowed in the exhibition areas outside of show opening hours which are 8.00am - 6.00pm.

JUDGING AND PARADES 25. JUDGING Only the Stewards and authorised officials including the official photographer shall enter any of the rings or have any communication with the Judges during the time the judging is taking place. All participants acting in opposition to this rule shall forfeit such prizes as may be awarded to their exhibits.

The Judges may withhold any prize where there is evident want of merit. Where there is only one entry shown in a class, the judges may award the first, second, third or fourth prize according to the merit of that entry.

Once a class has started, late competitors will only be allowed entry into the ring if the Judge is prepared to accept them.

Exhibitors are particularly requested to note the name of the Judge appointed for the classes they wish to enter and are advised, in the interests of all concerned, not knowingly to enter an animal bred by or that has been owned by the Judge appointed.

Should there be an unforeseen change of judge then the exhibitor should stand down from that class and entry fees will be refunded or advise the Chief Steward before judging commences so that a referee may be appointed. The Society will have made every effort to inform exhibitors of a change in judge.

In the event of a judge knowingly encountering an animal in which he/she has had a past or present financial or breeder interest, the Society will arrange for the placement of that animal by another judge.

The decision of the Judge is final.

Exhibitors must ensure that they are wearing the correct number for each animal whilst in the ring. Cattle exhibitors must wear both sets of numbers for each animal.

26. APPEARANCE MONEY Appearance money will be paid to each animal forward in a class. Each animal will receive one amount of appearance money no matter how many classes they enter.

Cattle £35 Sheep £7 Goats £7

27. PARADES The Grand Parade of Livestock will be in the Astor Ring at 2.30pm each Show day. This is subject to change and advice should be sought from the Chief Steward.

Livestock will be paraded at the discretion of the Stewards and exhibitors are requested to see that sufficient stockmen are in attendance for this purpose. All exhibitors must ensure that at least one animal is taken out on parade by attendants in white coats when requested or appearance money will be forfeited. If a trophy is not being presented any animal can be taken out on parade. All Champion winning animals must be taken on parade, failure to do so may result in a forfeit of that Championship place and the prize awarded to the Reserve Champion animal. For this reason, all Reserve Champions should also be ready to take part in the Grand Parade.

17 Any prize winner who fails to parade without authority loses any appearance money unless a certificate is produced signed by a Veterinary Surgeon or a substantial reason is forwarded in writing and handed to the Chief Steward responsible for the Parade giving such reasons. The Chief Steward will report to the Show Manager, whose decision shall be final as to the forfeiting of any appearance money.

Handlers under the age of 18 years will NOT be permitted to take livestock into any Show Ring except in Young Handler classes. Cattle young handlers’ must be accompanied.

28. TEMPORARY ACCIDENT Any animal suffering from an accident, having temporary consequences only, will not be disqualified on that account.

29. PROTESTS Any exhibitor wishing to make a protest, having reference to any exhibit at the Show, must make it in writing to the Show Manager and deposit the sum of £20.00, which may, at the discretion of the Council be forfeited to the funds of the Society, if the protest should appear to them to be frivolous or unreasonable. All protests must be delivered to the Show Manager before 5.00pm on the day of judging. After that hour no protest will be received unless a special and satisfactory reason can be given for the delay. A Council meeting will be called to consider any such protests at 10.30am on the following day at which time any person making a protest, or their authorised agent must be available to answer questions if required. Protests lodged against awards made on the third day of the Show will be considered at a time and place which will be fixed by the Council. The decision of the Council shall be final.

RESULTS AND PRIZES 30. PRIZE MONEY The following prizes will be awarded for each class for cattle, sheep and goats (unless otherwise listed): 1st £40 2nd £30 3rd £20 4th £10

All prize money will be paid to the exhibitor listed on the entry form within four weeks of the Show date.

In all cases where the prizes are offered conditionally, they shall be withheld until the exhibitor shall have proved to the satisfaction of the Council that the conditions have been fulfilled.

31. PRIZE CARDS Prize cards will be allocated for the above places for Livestock classes. Additional prize cards for Champion and Reserve Champion will be allocated. A number of classes have special prize cards or rosettes for specific winners. See individual sections for details.

32. TROPHIES Trophies will be engraved and sent to exhibitors within two months of the Show date. All trophies are perpetual and must be returned prior to the following years Show.

33. RESERVE AWARDS In awarding prizes, the Judges are instructed to add a reserve number in each instance (provided there is sufficient merit), stating the next best animal or pen of animals, in case any animal or pen of animals to which a prize has been awarded should be disqualified.

In the case of any prize animal being disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding prize in that class shall take the prize that has been awarded to the disqualified animal. The lowest prize in the class shall go to the reserve number provided a reserve card has been awarded.

34. ROSETTES No animal will be allowed to wear rosettes or ribbons and no prize cards may be displayed other than those issued by the Society.

18 35. RESULTS It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to check the results of the classes entered on the website www.kentshowground.co.uk within four weeks of the Show. No changes to results or prize money will be made after this time.

GENERAL 36. ADVERTISING No person shall be allowed to fix any placard in the Showground except in the cattle, sheep and goat lines without the written permission of the Show Manager and no exhibitor shall be allowed to distribute flyers anywhere in the Showground. Any exhibitor who would like to advertise should speak to the Show Office regarding sponsorship at the Show to discuss advertising opportunities.

37. PUBLIC VIEW Any participant shutting out his exhibits from the public view by letting down or affixing canvas, or in any other way except with the sanction of the Stewards or refusing to conform to the instructions of any Steward, will be fined £25.00 for each occurrence outlined by the Stewards.

Fines will be deducted from any prizes which may be due to the exhibitor or be recovered as per debts to the Society.

38. EVICTION The Stewards shall have power to remove from the Showground the stock belonging to (and cancel the tickets of) any participant who does not comply with the instructions given by the Stewards, without any responsibility attaching to the Stewards or the Society in consequence of such removal.

39. LIVESTOCK CAMPING The Livestock dairy camping area will only be for exhibitors with milking goats and the following dairy cattle breeds that are to be milked during the Show only: Holstein, Ayrshire, Jersey, Guernsey and entries into the Any Other Pure Bred Dairy Breed of Cattle class. No exceptions will be made to this rule.

40. DISCLAIMER Exhibits, the public and all participants are subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Society.

Neither the Society nor any of its officials will be responsible for anything that may happen from any cause or circumstances whatsoever to visitors or participants attending the Show, or through or to any animal or article exhibited at the Show and it shall be considered a condition of entry or admission to the grounds that each person shall hold the Society harmless and that they shall indemnify the Society against any legal proceedings arising from any such case or circumstances.

41. AMENDMENTS The Society reserves the right to review and amend their rules and regulations prior to the Show. Any amendments will be listed on the Society website www.kentshowground.co.uk.

8. SHORT DOCKING OF SHEEP Short docking of sheep is forbidden. The Mutilation (Permitted Procedures) (England) Regulations 2007 Schedule states that sheep must have sufficient tail retained to cover the vulva of the female sheep and the anus of male sheep. Imported Sheep entering a class at the Kent County Show must comply with this rule. Any sheep which does not comply with the aforementioned regulations will not be eligible to be judged in its class. The decision will be made at the discretion of the Society’s Chief Veterinary Officer or his representative. No refunds will be given if a sheep is refused entry into the judging ring on these grounds.

63 PREMIUM SHEEP HEALTH SCHEME 9. PREMIUM SHEEP HEALTH SCHEMES - ENTRY INFORMATION The Society will accept entries from exhibitors with non-accredited sheep and Maedi Visna accredited sheep as detailed under each breed. Each exhibitor with MV accredited sheep must send a blank photocopy of the SAC Health Status Report (showing the expiry date) valid at the date of the Show, with the completed entry forms before the closing date. A completed and signed SAC Health Status Report for the date of the event must accompany the sheep to the Show.

The flock scheme status must be shown on the entry form. Entries for MV accredited and non-accredited sheep must be completed on separate entry forms. If no current SAC Health Status Report is provided at the Show, no unloading in the Maedi Visna accredited area will be allowed.

10. PREMIUM SHEEP HEALTH SCHEMES - HOUSING The areas of the Showground, where MV accredited sheep will be housed, judged and any routes of movement, into, out of or within the Showground will be cleared of non-accredited stock more than seven days prior to the date stock enters the Showground for the Show. MV accredited sheep will not be permitted to use any ground or routes that have been used by non-accredited sheep during this minimum time limit.

Separate accommodation will be provided for MV accredited sheep and non-accredited sheep. Inthe sheep area, there will be separate clearly marked walkways for MV accredited and non-accredited sheep and judging rings will be divided into MV accredited and non-accredited areas. There will also be separate loading/unloading points for MV accredited and non-accredited sheep.

11. PREMIUM SHEEP HEALTH SCHEMES - JUDGING If MV accredited and non-accredited sheep are to be judged in the same ring the following conditions will apply. • All sheep must be halter or collar led. • The judging ring will be divided by two lines of barriers with a 2m gap between to prevent contact between different categories at all times. • Non-accredited sheep will enter and exit the judging ring at a different point to MV accredited sheep. • Any examination such as mouthing should be performed by the handler and not the judge. If it is performed by the judge, the judge must wash his/her hands before moving to the next animal.

It is essential that sheep exhibitors follow all written and verbal instructions.

12. PREMIUM SHEEP HEALTH SCHEMES - EXHIBITORS RESPONSIBILITIES Sheep exhibitors are responsible for the following: • The prevention of any contact with sheep (or goats) of a different category at all times. If no contact has been made, sheep may return home without any isolation. • If contact has been made, then sheep will lose their MV Accredited status and must be placed in isolation on return and undergo appropriate blood tests to regain their scheme status. Please contact SAC for advice. • Whilst the Society will take all necessary precautions to protect the status of MV accredited sheep, it will not hold itself responsible for any accidental contacts made which may affect the status of an exhibitor’s flock.

GENERAL 13. LIVESTOCK ACCOMMODATION Shedding and hurdle pens will be provided for sheep. There will be no additional charge for this.

14. SHEEP MOVEMENT DOCUMENTS Exhibitors transporting their own sheep to and from the Show must comply with the requirements of current legislation.

Please ensure you read the general rules and regulations that are listed at the start of the schedule.

(Under the auspices of the Kent County Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs)

The Society would like to thank Irvin Confectionary and Canterbury Farmers Club Bicentenary Fund, in association with Coleman Charity for kindly sponsoring this section.

The Kent Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs is celebrating its rd73 anniversary this year and continues to grow as a popular young persons’ organisation. They have been successfully showing at the Kent County Show for over 50 years. Members from ages 10 to 26 years old come from Kent’s 6 School and 11 Open Young Farmers’ Clubs, with three of these clubs opening within the past few years, to compete and represent not only their Clubs but themselves.

Year on year there is an exceptionally high level of passion and skill demonstrated by all members asthey showcase their animals and handling capabilities. There are a broad range of classes including conformation, knowledge and handling of cattle, sheep, pigs as well as small pets. There are also a number of photo and display competitions. Within recent years the young farmers have been invited to compete alongside the mainline cattle and sheep young handlers’ classes, in which they are eligible to qualify for an area final, which could then follow through to a national championship - so look out for us, not only in our YFC area of the show.

YFC is, and will continue to be, an organisation to which members are proud to belong. It aims to be a safe environment in which members can have fun, make friends, learn and achieve. The organisation will continue to be member led and will aim to deliver excellent services for all young people with an interest in the countryside; wherever they live and whatever their background. The clubs and County Federation deliver services, experiences and opportunities that are supported by a regional structure, with strategic direction and assistance from the National organisation. Over the next year we will be reviewing our county programmes to cater for the increases in membership and the general trend of growth in younger membership.

The Kent Young Farmers’ area at the show, is entirely organised, planned and structured by our members, which is a fantastic credit to the county. Endless days of hard work, both managing the show, and preparing livestock throughout the year, are put into this weekend - the time dedicated to this show by our members, leaders, teachers and parents is outstanding.

Do spare some time in your day at The Kent County Show to come and visit us, whether you watch some classes whilst eating your lunch, or enquire at our Marketing & Publicity marquee about joining the organisation yourself, this YFC area is a true credit to the show, and you’ll struggle to find one as impressive as ours elsewhere!

We continue with developing the Kent YFC website www.kentyfc.co.uk which is a wonderful marketing tool and great for advertising what is happening in the county. Here you can also find your Young Farmers’ Clubs local to your area.

For more information about the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs www.nfyfc.org.uk. With over 24,500 members and 619 clubs, the federation is one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK, they have been around for more than 80 years. Alongside our County, The National Federation heads up these clubs providing the framework for a whole host of exciting events, competitions and new experiences. With YFC led by young people, for young people, Young Farmers’ Clubs provide anyone aged 10 to 26 with a fantastic chance to meet lifelong friends, learn new skills, make a real difference to the local community and even travel the world!

95 POULTRY AND EGG SHOW

Kent Poultry Club will be staging an Exhibition and Show of poultry and eggs at Kent County show. The display will include a variety of Pure Breeds of poultry, chicks and ducks.

This year we are promoting old traditional breeds which were bred in the Kent and Sussex area of the country. With the ever increasing popularity of poultry we will be demonstrating the different ways of keeping poultry at home. There will be experienced keepers on hand to give advice as to which birds are best suited to each system and to ensure their needs, health and well-being are met.

For many children this is an opportunity to see poultry up close and have the chance to touch or perhaps hold a for the first time.

This year we are privileged to welcome as our judges Mr and Mrs Ward who have exhibited with us in previous years and have also won Best in Show. They will be on hand after judging on Saturday and during Sunday to an- swer any questions and offer advice on all aspects of poultry keeping.

Kent Poultry Club is committed to encouraging the younger generation into the world of poultry keeping and we hope that by sharing our passion and knowledge we can foster a love of the hobby which will transfer to future generations and ensure the older breeds carry on.

We are delighted to welcome pupils and staff of St Edmond’s School Canterbury. This will be an opportunity to display their recent school projects.

On Saturday we stage an Open Poultry show which includes classes for all recognised Pure Breeds of poultry which is run in accordance with PCGB and DEFRA rules. There will be members on hand to explain the process of preparing and judging of the poultry and what it takes to breed a bird capable of winning the prestigious title Best in Show.

The Regional Open Egg Show follows on Sunday where visitors can admire the different coloured eggs on display. Members will explain what the judges are looking for in their quest to find The Best Eggs. Demonstrations of egg grading will take place and also a presentation on egg production in the commercial sector.

We offer you a warm welcome to all things poultry.
