    RED DEER COUNTY NEWS OFFICIAL NEWS FROM RED DEER COUNTY CENTRE FEBRUARY 2016 COUNTY JOINS WITH BOWDEN FOR PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT SERVICES As of January 15, 2016, the Town of Bowden and Red Deer County entered into an agreement whereby Red Deer County will be providing subdivision, development and safety code services for projects within the Town of Bowden. Bowden residents and contractors will now work with Red Deer County to have all of these requirements processed. This is in addition to emergency services work that is currently being provided to Bowden by Red Deer County. Red Deer County recently became accredited for Safety Codes Permits and Inspections within Red Deer County and the Town of Bowden. Prior to taking on this responsibility, once constituents received their municipal development permits, they were referred to accredited agencies contracted to the Provincial Government for their permitting requirements for building, electrical, plumbing, gas and private sewage disposal system. Now this can all be done at the County Centre, making the process much more efficient. Bowden will also take advantage of the depth and experience of Red Deer County’s Planning and Development Department. The department has a strong track record of executing long range planning goals and successfully promoting economic development. These changes will provide a high level of service to both Bowden and Red Deer County residents. That Report CAO 5-2019, dated May 10, 2019, respecting the Canada Summer Games BE RECEIVED, and Regional Council APPROVE an additional capital budget commitment of $13.7 Million (to be allocated from Federal gas tax funding) subject to the commitment of additional funding by the Federal Government, local municipal partners and Brock University. 2. That Regional Council PASS A RESOLUTION asking the Ontario provincial government to commit additional capital funding consistent with the bid submission to the proposed 2021 Canada Summer Games legacy projects. Key Facts Niagara Region was selected as the site of the Canada Summer Games (CSG) in 2021 which will bring more than 5000 elite level Canadian junior athletes from across all 13 provinces and territories to compete against one another in Niagara. The Canada Games are the country’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes and are recognized as a critical competitive step for elite level Canadian athletes as they develop to complete at senior national and international events. It is also the only national or international event where both Para-athletes and Special Olympic athletes participate in the event inclusively. The CSG will be held over a two-week period in August 2021, involving competition in 18 sporting events. These sports attract over 80 hours of national television coverage (TSN/RDS). Prior CSG events have attracted an additional 30,000+ visitors to the host communities. The community has already pulled together to create a successful bid.

    2019 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria and Program Plan March 2018 2019 Canada Winter Games – February 2019 – Red Deer, AB This document outlines the criteria for selection to the BC Team for the 2019 Canada Winter Games (CWG) taking place in Red Deer, Alberta, February 15 to March 3, 2019 (Judo Competition ‐ February 25 to March 1 (plus travel days)). These criteria were created by the Sport Development Director/Head Coach and reviewed for fairness by the Judo BC Technical Committee. Travel, accommodation, meals, and uniforms are provided free of charge to all CWG selected athletes and coaches by Canada Games, TEAM BC (which is a Province of BC funded program managed by the BC Games Society with integration with Canadian Sport Institute‐Pacific and Sport Med BC) and Judo BC.     2019 Canada Winter Games Red Deer, Alberta February 15 to March 3, 2019 www.canadagames.ca/2019/ This will be the largest event ever hosted in Red Deer and central Alberta and one of the largest events to be hosted in Alberta in over three decades, since the 1988 Calgary Olympics. The 2019 Canada Winter Games is the 27th edition of the Canada Games and the third time the Canada Games have been hosted in Alberta. Previously, Alberta hosted the Canada Games in 1975 (Lethbridge) and 1995 (Grand Prairie). The Games will feature over 150 events in 21 sports. 3600 athletes, managers and coaches 13 Teams: ten provinces and three territories Team BC Team BC brings together the best athletes, coaches, managers, and mission staff to represent British Columbia at the Canada Winter Games and Canada Summer Games. Team BC athletes are the best young developing talent in their sport and being part of Team BC is a key multi-sport games development opportunity towards competing at national and international levels. Team BC’s delegation includes 251 athletes, 46 coaches, 29 managers and technical staff, and 23 mission staff.
