Daily Dose of Nature with CEE, Day 12: Rainbow Hunt

Description: Nature is full of amazing color and variety. Take the time to observe the of the rainbow and all their variations as you head outside and explore the Color-Full world around!

Goal: Explore the colorful details that nature has to offer, large and small!

Materials:  Outdoor shoes and clothes  Paper to write on  (Print handout below if that helps)  Something to write with  Something to write on (optional)  A bag for anything you collect (optional)  A good eye for color  Fun colorful snack! (Optional)

Directions: 1. Write a list down your paper of the colors of the rainbow (Hint: See the picture above for help). Challenge: Add one two more colors to your sheet that you might really like to look for (eg: ). 2. Write (or imagine) things you might find in nature that have the various colors on your sheet. 3. Head outside and begin to explore! (Consider visiting a couple of places in your explorations.) 4. Search high and low and write down and/or collect small samples, or (even better) pictures of what you find! a. Is the really (all the time)? & Low b. How many colors of are there? ? c. Which color surprises you that you see it a lot? That is so hard to find? d. How many natural things are only one color? e. Why do you think some colors are common? Uncommon? 5. Search high and low for all the colors on the sheet! 6. Kids can either draw the things they see or write out the words. Search High 7. Adults can take pictures of the things the children see so they can color them when they get back home! 8. Once your observations are finished, have a colorful snack with your little natural artists!

GREAT EXTENSION:  Create a (example below) using clothespins, paperclips, etc. as markers on the wheel for when the color has been found! (Great for kids those not able to write yet).  Go on a “” or “” hunt (example in the pictures)! Spring is a great time for this!
