TRAVEL DIRECTIONS TO ASKHAM BRYAN COLLEGE, ASKHAM BRYAN, YORK, YO23 3FR BY CAR The College is situated just off the A64 to the southwest of the city of York. From the A1: Leave the A1 at J45 onto the A64, after 10 miles take the slip road sign posted ‘York North’ to Harrogate and Thirsk (A1237). Take the first exit from the roundabout following signs to Askham Bryan village. The College drive is approximately 200 yards on the left from the roundabout. The visitors’ car park is the first car park on the right hand side. From the A19 North: Take the A19 towards York, at the first major roundabout take the 4th exit (right) onto the A1237 towards A64 Leeds. Go straight over 3 roundabouts, at the 4th roundabout turn right signposted Askham Bryan College. The College drive is approximately 200 yards on the left from the roundabout. The visitors’ car park is the first car park on the right hand side. BY BUS Yorkshire Coastliner buses numbers 840, 843 & 845 run in both directions between Leeds and York and on to Scarborough and Whitby. All the buses stop near the College and usually run on a ½ hourly basis. Timetable enquiries should be made to 01653 692 556 or 01132 448 976 or www.coastliner.co.uk. Alternatively contact Traveline for full timetables and other bus services on 08712 002 233 or www.traveline.org.uk BY TRAIN Trains from all parts of the UK stop at York Railway Station which is situated approximately 4½ miles from the College. Taxis and buses (see above) to the College run from outside the station on a regular basis. BY BICYCLE The College is accessible by bicycle on road or by using off-road cycle tracks from the centre of York and surrounding districts. REASONS 1 The claim and response 1.1 By a claim form presented on 8 October 2019, the claimant claimed unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal from his post as Transport Manager with the respondent, based at York and Malton, on 30 May 2019. He set out that he had been dismissed summarily for three counts of alleged gross negligence consisting of allowing a bus to be used in service without an MOT certificate, failing to follow the advice of a health and safety professional in respect of a student’s work experience and cleanliness of the depot and bus fleet. He maintained the respondent did not genuinely believe he was guilty of the allegations and had failed to adequately investigate them and to treat him consistently with other employees in similar circumstances. Although he accepted the bus was used in service without 1 Case No: 1805268/2019 Code V an MOT certificate, he maintained the respondent failed to investigate the extenuating circumstances not least its one off nature and the fact it had been transferred from Burnley and so had not been included in the MOT plan and that he did follow the advice of a health and safety professional in respect of a student’s work experience.

Decision Session - Executive Member for City 2nd June 2009 Strategy Report of the Director of City Strategy Petition to First York bus company concerning changes made to the Nos 13 Service from Heworth to Monks Cross and York College Summary 1. The report considers a petition presented to Council earlier this year seeking retention of the route 13 bus service linking Heworth to Monks Cross and York College. Recommendations 2. The Executive Member for City Strategy is recommended to: i) Note the content of the petition and inform the lead petitioner of the outcome of the report. ii) Allow the route and service changes of Autumn 2008 and Spring 2009 to become established and revisit the issue if the services do not adequately connect Heworth to Monks Cross or York College . Reason: Council officers are working to further promote, sustain and develop the local bus network in Heworth and continue to monitor the development of ‘Yorcard’ in the interests of introducing a cross-operator ticket at the earliest opportunity. York benefits from the competition that having several bus operators brings; encouraging them to improve their quality and retain lower fares. Background 3. Route 13 has operated on a commercial basis (without Council subsidy) on week days (daytime and evening) for a number of years. The hourly Sunday service has been operated with financial support from the Council. 4. In Autumn 2008, First York approached Council officers to express concerns regarding the ongoing commercial viability of route 13 in its present form: Copmanthorpe – York College – Tadcaster Rd – Station – Stonebow – East Parade – Hempland Lane – Woodlands Grove – Malton Road – Monks Cross.
