This activation that will be held under the patronage of the Ministry of Territory and Environment and the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, will take place in conjunction with a civil th th protection exercise on September 15 and 16 for 24 hours. The Three Towers Award is issued in two categories. The Three Towers Award (Standard) is issued to an amateur radio station submitting proof of contact with all the 3 towers on at least 2 bands. The Three Towers Award Honor Roll is issued to an amateur radio station submitting proof of contact with all the three towers on three bands. The stations will be active only 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters. Three stations will be activated by the member and supporter of ARRSM from: Guaita – First Tower T71A The Guaita is the oldest of the three towers, and the most famous. It was constructed in the 11th century and served briefly as a prison. It was rebuilt numerous times and reached its current form in the 15th century during the war fought between San Marino and the House of Malatesta. Cesta – Second Tower T71B The Cesta is located on the highest of Monte Titano's summits. A museum to honor Saint Marinus, created in 1956, is located in this tower and showcases over 1,550 weapons dating from the Medieval Era to the modern day. It was constructed in the 13th century on the remains of an older Roman fort. Montale – Third Tower T71C The Montale is located on the smallest of Monte Titano's summits. Unlike the other towers, this one is not open to the public. It was constructed in the 14th century. It is thought to have been constructed to give protection against the increasing power of the Malatesta family in that region. It was also used as a prison, and accordingly, the only entrance to the tower is a door about seven metres from ground level, which was common for prison architecture of the time. The special QSL card will could be requested via T70A via direct or via BURO. The request of the award must be sent only direct to ARRSM (T70A) with a fee of 10€/15$ to cover the expenses (the award will be printed on vellum paper). A.R.R.S.M. RADIO CLUB P.O.BOX 77 47890 REP. SAN MARINO ( VIA ITALY ) San Marino Operating from the top of San Marino, inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site with these 3 rarely used callsigns is absolutely uncommon for the amateur radio activity in the Republic of San Marino. The site is located in a region characterized by medium level of seismic hazard. Therefore, mitigating earthquake damages is an important goal for conservation of historical buildings. From an economic point of view, this issue is fundamental in order to sustain tourism, which is a relevant source of local economy. In particular, effective retrofitting interventions require a reliable assessment of seismic vulnerability of unique historic buildings. Seismic retrofitting is a particularly complex task for old structures. A first step in this direction is the evaluation of dynamic response to seismic loads at least in the domain of small strain levels corresponding to the beginning of damage. Several recent studies demonstrate, this task can be achieved in an efficient way by using suitable single station asynchronous ambient vibration measurements. This technique has been applied to three medieval towers and the Palazzo Pubblico located in San Marino and allowed identifying fundamental (elastic) resonance frequency, a key parameter for assessing seismic behavior of historical buildings.

===oOo=== INVITATION OF THE ITALIAN SECTION ===oOo=== Fly-in: from 1st to 4th September 2017: Center of events: the San Marino Republic (see web-site /www.sanmarinosite.com/castelli/castelli-di-san-marino/ Hystory and architecture San Marino has a very ancient history, handed down and lived by its population, starting with the legend that points to the merit of having founded the Republic of San Marino to a cutter - precisely named Marino - that in 257 AD, came from island of Arbe in Dalmatia, he climbed Mount Titan and founded a small community of Christians. Around him in 301 AD. the first community of the Republic was formed. It is true that the area was inhabited since prehistoric times, but the first document that witnesses the existence of an organized community on the summit of Monte Titano is the Placito Feretrano, dating back to 885 AD, kept in the State Archives. But it was only in 1243 that San Marino named the first two Consuls, that is the Captain Regents, who alternated power every six months, uninterruptedly until Porta San Francesco today, confirming the validity and efficiency of their institutions. Historically, it is up to the Arengo the definition of the first laws, the Statutes of San Marino, inspired by democratic principles. Already in 1253 there is evidence of the existence of the first Statutes, but it will have to wait until 1295 to reach the first body of laws of the Republic of San Piazza della Libertà Marino San Marino boasts an exceptional tradition of hospitality at all times.
