Air Service News A V I A T I O N M A R K E T D E V E L O P M E N T A I R S E R V I C E U P D A T E NOVEMBER 2 0 0 8 RSW PROVIDES NONSTOP SERVICE TO 38 DESTINATIONS (36 DOMESTIC & 2 INTERNATIONAL) THIS SERVICE IS PROVIDED BY 21 DIFFERENT AIR CARRIERS AT RSW AIR SERVICE NEWS Air Berlin/LTU (AB / LT) Air Berlin/LTU will offer three weekly flights to Düsseldorf (DUS) for the fall/winter schedule. This is an increase in one weekly from the same period last year. Air Berlin /LTU’s partner airlines offer convenient connecting flights to points throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia from DUS. AirTran Airways (FL) AirTran will inaugurate daily nonstop service to Columbus, Ohio (CMH) on November 6. With this new service AirTran will operate to 14 nonstop destinations, twice as many as any other carrier serving RSW. Cape Air (9K) Cape Air will inaugurate three times daily nonstop service to Marathon (MTH) in the Florida Keys on December 19. RSW will be the only city servicing MTH with commercial air service. JetBlue Airways (B6) JetBlue will inaugurate daily nonstop service to Washington D.C.-Dulles (IAD) starting December 18. Midwest Airlines (YX) Midwest will resume seasonal daily nonstop service to Milwaukee (MKE) on December 20; this service will operate until April 19, 2009. Southwest Airlines (WN) Southwest will inaugurate daily nonstop service to Saint Louis, Missouri (STL) on November 2. The will be the sixth nonstop destination offered by Southwest from RSW. They currently offer daily nonstop service to Baltimore (BWI), Chicago- Midway (MDW), Long Island-Islip (ISP), Philadelphia (PHL), and Orlando (MCO). Sunwing Airlines (SW) Sunwing will resume its weekly service to Toronto (YYZ) starting November 3. United Airlines (UA) United will be upgrading their aircraft on the daily nonstop flight to Chicago-O’Hare (ORD), starting November 2 they will operate a 138 seat A320 from their current 70 seat ERJ 170. USA 3000 (U5) Starting December 18, USA 3000 will offer six weekly nonstop flights to Milwaukee (MKE). Aviation Day is a free, annual event organized by the Lee County Port Authority aimed at educating the residents of Southwest Florida about aviation. Aviation Day will be held at Page Field General Aviation Airport in Fort Myers on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is held on the north ramp off N. Airport Road. This year’s highlights: Douglas C-54E flying museum and memorial, the same type aircraft used to transport supplies into Germany during the Berlin Airlift. P-51D Mustang fighter plane that began its service in 1945 at Page Field. Experimental, antique and military plane exhibits, plane rides, children’s activities and character appearances, demonstrations by airport police and fire departments, refreshments and more.
