Baturong Palm Oil Mill & Estates, IOI Corporation Bhd Annual Surveillance 01 Report 1.0 Scope of the surveillance 1.1 Certification unit background This IOI oil plantation in the Kunak-Lahad Datu Region of Sabah, Malaysia is a result of acquisition of agricultural areas from other companies. IOI began their venture into Sabah by acquiring agricultural land some planted with cocoa in Sabah which was subsequently cleared and replanted with oil palm . There has been no new establishment of oil palm plantation within the unit apart from replanting. Baturong Oil Mill Plantation Management Unit (BOM-PMU) consist of 4 estates namely Baturong 1, Baturong 2, Baturong 3 and Cantawan and a 30 tonne mill identified as Baturong Oil Mill. The main assessment of IOI Corporation’s Baturong Oil Mill Plantation Management Unit (BOM- PMU) was conducted by SGS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd on the 28th September 2009 – 1st October 2009. The primary objective of the exercise was to evaluate current documentation and field practices in sustainable oil palm management of the plantation unit against the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Principles & Criteria Malaysia National Interpretation, 2008 (RSPO P&C – MYNI). A CAR closeout visit was undertaken on 9th November, 2009 to further verify documentation and seek further clarification on issues raised during the field audit. The main assessment resulted in the issuance 2 Major Corrective Action Requests (CAR), 21 Minor Corrective Action Requests (CAR) and of
