Penang is well known for a variety of biscuits, pastries, tarts, friedcakes, teacakes, steamed cakes, all recognizable by their individual names. Some products like long fritters and red-bean friedcakes are available daily the whole year round, whereas some like mooncakes are only made seasonally. There are several cottage industries making the famous Tau Sar biscuit, one of them is more than 150 years old. The bakeries listed here are pioneers in making Western-style bread and cakes. There are also biscuit shops that sell teabiscuits in large rectangular tins; one of them now has a biscuit factory in Prai. Juat Khoon
