ANNOUNCEMENT: The Motorcycle Trials Club of Qld, hereafter called the PROMOTER will conduct an Inter-Club Trial on Sunday 27th July 2014. 2. JURISDICTION: 2.1. The abovementioned meeting has been authorised by Motorcycling QLD who has issued the Motorcycling Australia Permit Number 41651, and is open to holders of current Motorcycling Australia Open, Restricted, Club, One Meeting or Nipper/Mini Licences and are full financial Members of M.T.C.Q., W.D.T.C, C.Q.T.C or L.R.M.T.C. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse any entry, with the approval of MQ, should the circumstances warrant. (OML to Juniors if they hold a current JCP Log Book.) 2.2. The event will be held in accordance with the 2014 Manual of Motorcycle Sport General Competition Rules (GCR’s) the Australian Trials rules (23.7.3), these Supplementary Regulations, and any Final Instructions verbal or otherwise, with prior approval from Motorcycling Queensland. BY ENTERING THIS MEETING ALL PARTIES AGREE TO COMPLY WITH THESE RULES, REGULATIONS, BY-LAWS AND INSTRUCTIONS. 3. ENTRIES: 3.1. Entries open forthwith and Pre Event Entries close Tuesday 22rd July, 2014. Entries will be accepted on the day. However, so as to encourage early entry submissions fees will be cheaper for “Pre Entry” than for “On the Day” entries. 3.2. In the case of postponement or abandonment of the meeting, all or any part of the entry fee may be retained by the Promoter, if such retention is approved by Motorcycling Queensland. 3.3. Veterans will be riding the C Grade line. Juniors must be under the age of 16 as at the 1st January as per GCR 12.16.0.1. 3.4. Only entries received on the official Entry Form that is accompanied by the correct fee will be accepted. 3.6. NOTE: - THE RETURN OF ENTRY FEES FOR ANY RIDER WITHDRAWING FROM THE MEETING IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE PROMOTER AND WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED IF NOTIFIED AT LEAST 24 HOURS PRIOR. 4. INSURANCE: 4.1. National Personal Accident Scheme provides basic cover for death and permanent disability. 4.2. Ambulance Insurance is compulsory for licensees. 4.3. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT COMPETITORS GIVE CONSIDERATION TO TAKING OUT WEEKLY BENEFITS INSURANCE. 5. MEDICAL SERVICES: A First Aid officer will be available. 6. ENTRY FEES: 6.1. ON the DAY: Solo - $50, Junior - $40, Mini bike / Intro Mini - $30. Minder - $40 Family $80 (One adult and any number of Juniors / Mini bike riders (U16) that are in that Senior rider’s immediate family.) PRE-ENTRY: Solo - $40, Junior - $35, Mini bike / Intro Mini - $25. Minder - $35 Family $65 (One adult and any number of Juniors / Mini bike riders (U16) that are in that Senior rider’s immediate family.) 6.2. CLASSES OF COMPETITION : Open Solo, B Grade, C Grade, Veterans 40+, 50+, 60+, Classic, Twinshock, Air Cooled Monoshock, Clubman, Women’s, Junior, Sidecar, Mini bike and Intro Mini,. Introductory. PLEASE NOTE: All competitors may enter one class only. 7.1 TY CHALLENGE: Eligible to ALL YAMAHA TY’s relative to the MOM’s rules for the above mentioned classes, which may be entered. (Scorpa’s are not eligible) 8. AWARDS : Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd & 3rd to all grades. In the event of only three (3) entries, trophies will be presented for 1st place. Intro-Mini which is a participatory class only and all participants will be awarded a medallion only. 8.1 TY CHALLENGE AWARDS: TY award to the highest placed “TY” in each class. Perpetual “TY CHALLENGE” Trophy to TY Champion of the day. 8.2 Best “Presented” TY Award bikes, may or may not be entered for competition. (eg: show & compete or show & shine only) 9. ENTRIES TO CONSTITUTE A CLASS: 9.1. To constitute a Class, the number of contestants entered and competing in each Class shall be no less than 5. 9.2 Should there be insufficient entries in any Class of Competition, the decision to run or cancel the Class, or to combine classes and re- distribute any awards, will be at the discretion of the promoter, subject to Motorcycling Queensland approval. 10 RACE FORMAT: 10.1. The number of Sections and laps to be completed will be announced at rider’s briefing. 11. MACHINES AND RIDERS: 11.1. All machines entered must comply with the current GCR’s for Moto Trials Competition. 11.2. Multiple entry of the one Machine in the same Class of Competition is not permitted. 11.3. Competitors including Minders are to present themselves dressed for competition including helmet, which are to be in good condition and complies with 23.1 or 30 of the GCR’s, together with bike, competition licence to Scrutineering at the time listed below. 11.4 Motorcycle Tyres shall be of a Universal Trials Pattern. 11.5 Helmets are mandatory. All persons including officials using any bike, trike or quad at an event must be wearing a properly secured helmet. 12. NAME PLATES: Identification plates must be fitted to all machines as per GCR’s 23.2.3. 13. RIDERS BRIEFING: A Riders Briefing will be held prior to the commencement of the event and ALL Competitors / Parents / Minders MUST attend the Riders Briefing. Riders Briefing is a Non Smoking Area. 14. DRUG AND OR ALCOHOL TESTING: 14.1. All competitors and officials are advised that as part of the MA drug education program, drug testing may take place at any competition in accordance with Australian Sports Commission policy as implemented by the Australian Sports Drug Agency. 14.2. If any doubts exist over banned substances it is recommended competitors telephone the Drugs in Sport Hotline 1800 020506. When drug testing takes place, the presentation of awards may be delayed at the Motorcycling Queensland discretion until the results of the tests are known. 15. CODE OF CONDUCT: All Competitors, Officials and Parents are reminded of the Motorcycling Australia By-Law - CODE OF CONDUCT (as stipulated in the GCR’s) which is a guide to appropriate behaviour at all Motorcycle Race Meetings. This CODE OF CONDUCT applies to this Meeting and will be enforced. 16. TIMETABLE: Sunday 27th JULY 2014 Machinery Examination - 8.30 am – 9.30 am. Rider’s Briefing - 9.45 am Start - 10.00 am or by order of the Clerk of Course Finish (Section Close) - 3.30 pm or by order of the Clerk of Course 17. PENALTIES – PLEASE NOTE Competitors will incur a one (1) point per minute late for Machinery Examination and exclusion after sixty minutes late. Competitors handing in a scorecard within 15 minutes of the sections closing will not be penalised. Competitors handing in a scorecard later than 15 minutes after sections have closed will be given 1 point penalty per minute up to 30 minutes late. Competitors handing in a scorecard more than 30 minutes after sections closed will be excluded from results (DNF). May 2015 As I write, our president Brendan Smith is still in Europe enjoying the sights following his competing in the Scottish Six Days Trial. It seems that the SSDT was even tougher than usual this year, especially in the early part of the week, with Tuesday’s circuit being rated by many as being the toughest day in living memory. A combination of a very long circuit (around 100 miles), tough sections, terrible weather and a tight time allowance resulted in substantial time penalties for many riders. Unfortunately for Brendan, after surviving the day, a mechanical failure put him out on the Wednesday morning, but his Victorian riding companion Tim Lewis made it to the finish. Congratulations to both riders for their great efforts. I am sure that the SSDT bug will have bitten them and they will both be back for another attempt in the future.

Good Practice Guidance for Event Organisers & Land Managers, the current version of which may be found on the LARA website at https://laragborg.wordpress.com/publications/ This paper is a brief overview of the subject, and good advice is to be found in the various Refer- ence Documents listed below, which explain why some sites succeed while others fail. 1. ‘Off-road driving sites’ largely fall into three categories: • Motor sport event sites – which include permanent race tracks like Brands Hatch and the wide range of permanent sites at which organised events take place. The bottom end of this category would be something like a moto-cross track on a farm, where the track itself is a permanent feature, although the land is grazed between events. Motor sport events sites might be owned by commercial enterprises, by motor sport clubs (comparatively uncommon) or by, typically, farmers, who allow access by licence or lease. In general, there is no ‘public access’ to the use of these sites. Control rests with the site owners and event-organising clubs. • Motor sport practice tracks. Bar a few such sites owned by clubs, these sites are op- erated by the small business sector.

This work was part of the ISA project, which developed ISA systems for passenger cars, motorcycles, and trucks, and tested the car and truck systems in real- world field trials. The objectives of the work reported here were: • To define a functional specification for an ISA appropriate for a motorcycle • To identify the additional safety hazards associated with an ISA when being used by motorcyclists • To select an appropriate example motorcycle and to define an ISA architecture suitable to be installed on the selected motorcycle as a proof of concept • To assess ISA functionality and performance as well as user acceptance A suitable vehicle was acquired and a number of design alternatives considered.

    When did Enduro competitions first start? Motorcycles specifically intended for enduro competition first appeared at the International Six Day Trial (ISDT) now called the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE). The ISDE was first held in 1913 at Carlisle, England. The ISDE requires an enduro motorcycle to withstand over six days and upwards of 1250 km (777 miles) of competition; repairs are limited to those performed by the rider with limited parts. The ISDE has occurred annually, apart from interruptions due to World War I and World War II, at various locations throughout the world. The early events were a test of rider skill and motorcycle reliability. The earliest ISDE courses used the dirt roads common in that era. Today, most of the routes are off-road. In 1980, the ISDT was renamed the International Six Day Enduro (ISDE). Scottish Six Days Trial The Scottish Six Days (Open Reliability) Trial is an internationally recognized motorcycle competition, which has been running since 1909 (with breaks for the two world wars) making it the oldest motorcycle trials event in the world. Motorcycle riders from all over the world compete in this extreme sport, covering as much as 100 miles a day on road and off-road routes around Lochaber on each of the six days. The event is a trial of the skill, consistency and endurance of the riders, as well as a test of the specialized motorcycles used. Switched between motorcycle trials, motocross/enduro and mountain biking for around 20 years but never really “lived and breathed” any of this until I went to watch a WAGE race after we moved to WA from Tasmania around 5 years ago.
