Press release 13 May 2014 Prime Minister's Office Ministry of Justice to receive UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon On Wednesday 14 May, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will receive UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for discussions. The agenda includes the very disturbing developments in Ukraine and Syria, the UN's efforts to reach agreement on sustainable development goals post-2015, and preparations ahead of the Secretary-General's high- level meeting on to be held in New York in September, which is one step on the road to the climate change conference in Paris in 2015 (COP21).

Ban Ki-moon is visiting to hold the opening address at the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in . Together with Mr Reinfeldt and Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström, he will also take part in a study visit to IT consultancy company Cybercom. The company depends on labour immigration from other countries. The aim of the visit is to gain an insight into Sweden's system for labour immigration, which is one of the most open in the world. It paves the way for people from around the world to come to Sweden to work and contribute to the Swedish society, while also enriching their home country.

Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström and Minister for International Development Cooperation Hillevi Engström will host the meeting. H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will be speaking at the opening session. Iraq's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, will visit Sweden on 26-30 June as part of a European tour. Mr Zebari will meet Minister for Foreign Affairs , Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström and State Secretary Gunnar Oom. He will also visit the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Discussions during the visit will focus on the conflict in Syria and the political and security situation in Iraq.

To inaugurate Sweden's Chairmanship, the Government will arrange a half-day seminar on 31 January, at which background information about the Forum as well as Sweden's priorities will be presented. Among those participating will be Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström, Minister for International Development Cooperation 's State Secretary Sofia Strand and the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Migration and Development, Peter Sutherland.

Facts: The Global Forum on Migration and Development is a unique informal intergovernmental platform for dialogue on migration and development. Since its launch in 2007, over 160 states have participated each year. Sweden's Chairmanship will conclude with a world conference for some 1 000 delegates in May 2014.

Press release 25 June 2012 Ministry of Justice Tobias Billström, Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy, to give evidence before The House of Lords

The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Home Affairs, Health and Education has invited Mr Billström to give evidence on the EU Global Approach to Migration and Mobility and recent developments in Sweden. - This invitation is an opportunity for me to outline the Swedish government's fundamentally positive view of the Global Approach as well as some particular aspects of Swedish migration policy. Openness towards the outside world is one of our priorities, says Mr Billström.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 am on 27 June. The public session begins att 11 am.

Press release 07 December 2011 Ministry of Justice Refugee and statelessness conventions celebrate 60th and 50th anniversaries

This year marks 60 years since the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and 50 years since the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness were signed. This is being commemorated with a high-level meeting in Geneva on 7-8 December, with the participation of more than 70 ministers. Sweden is being Related represented by Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström, who by virtue of the Swedish Chairmanship of the UNHCR Executive Committee, will lead the meeting during the opening ceremony, when Speech by Tobias Billström at US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Refugee Commissioner António Guterres and others will speak. UNHCR ministerial meeting in Finland's former President and Nobel laureate Martti Ahtisaari is also participating as a special guest speaker. Geneva
