T HE MAR AI S P R O J E C T LOUIS DE CAIX D'HERVELOIS MARIN MARAIS World Premiere Recordings of PAUL CUTLAN LLEW AND MARA KIEK HJORT ANDERS OLSSON When I founded The Marais Project we created a statement of purpose which read “to perform the music of Marin Marais and other music for the viola da gamba in a The Marais Project contemporary Australian context.” I wanted to play the viol and do it in a way that reected the fact I lived and worked in Australia. I feel strongly that what we do and how we do it should consciously relate to our place and time.
