North Shore University Physician Leadership 2019 Alessandro Bellucci, MD, FACP Executive Director

Dr. Sandro Bellucci is the Executive Director of North Shore University Hospital where he is responsible for the daily operations of that 804 bed facility which supports approximately 3,000 specialist and subspecialist physicians, 16 clinical service lines and corresponding support staff.

Dr. Bellucci joined the NSUH medical staff in 1982 and has practiced there for over 30 years. Prior to his appointment as Executive Director he held numerous leadership positions within the Division of Nephrology and Department of Medicine, including serving as executive vice chair and interim chair of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Bellucci served as President of the Medical Staff from May 1999 to April 2000, at the time of the merger of the North Shore Health System with the Long Island Jewish Health System.

Dr. Bellucci is an associate professor of medicine at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. As a practicing nephrologist, Dr. Bellucci specializes in acute renal failure, vascular access, acid base disturbances, hypertension, evaluation of renal function and kidney stones. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation.

Dr. Bellucci graduated summa cum laude from the University of Medicine and Surgery in Florence, Italy, and completed his and chief residency in NYC at an affiliate of Medical College. He completed clinical and research fellowships in nephrology at NSUH.

Dr. Gitman serves as North Shore University Hospital’s Medical Director where he oversees the hospital’s medical affairs, quality management, and safety efforts. Dr. Gitman previously served as associate medical director at NSUH.

Prior to his current role Dr. Gitman served as the Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs and Quality in the NSLIJ Department of Medicine. During that time he held multiple committee roles including Chair of the LIJ Medication Safety committee, Associate Chair of the LIJ Performance Improvement Coordination Group and Chair of the NSLIJ Department of Medicine Performance Improvement Coordination Group.

Dr. Gitman is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine. Over the past decade Dr. Gitman has been extensively involved in physician education. He served as Program Director for the NSUH Nephrology Fellowship and AECOM LIJ Internal Medicine Clerkship Site Director. He has been awarded the NSUH Full- Time Faculty Teacher of the Year Award and the AECOM Samuel M. Rosen Outstanding Teacher Award. Dr. Gitman has multiple publications and presentations in the field of clinical nephrology.

Dr. Gitman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Society of Nephrology. He received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine, as well as fellowship in nephrology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Subsequently he completed the Greater New York Hospital Association Clinical Quality Fellowship.

Matthew Bank, MD, FACS is the Chief, Division of Acute Care Surgery, at North Shore University Hospital. In addition, Dr. Bank has served as the Trauma Medical Director of North Shore’s since 2007. In this capacity, in he lead North Shore’s successful efforts to become the first American College of Surgeons Verified Level One Trauma Center in the / Long Island Region. Dr. Bank also has served as the Program Director of North Shore’s Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and Co-Director, Surgical , since 2006.

Dr. Bank is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a New York Surgical Society member. In addition, he is a member of the New York Department of Health (DOH) State Trauma Advisory Committee and the Chairman of the New York State DOH Subcommittee on Trauma Center Performance Improvement.

Dr. Bank has published numerous articles relating to trauma and critical care. He is a Department of Defense funded investigator and his current research interests include the immunological response to spinal cord injuries and the outcomes of trauma .

Dr. Bank grew up on Long Island, graduated from New York Medical College, trained in General Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and completed his training as a critical care fellow at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Bank came to North Shore University Hospital immediately after graduating his fellowship in 2001.

Dr. Maria Carney serves as Chief, Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the Department of Medicine and the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. She is an internist, geriatrician, and palliative care physician with experience in public health who has dedicated most of her career to the care and advocacy of the elderly and vulnerable populations.

Dr. Carney received her medical degree from New York Medical College, completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill/Cornell Medical Center, and completed a research oriented fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

She has published articles, chapters, and edited medical books in the areas of dementia, advance directives, palliative medicine, and emergency response for vulnerable populations. From early 2008 through 2011, she was Commissioner of the Nassau County Department of Health on Long Island serving a population of 1.3 million residents. She is the first known physician with a specialty in Geriatric Medicine to serve as commissioner of a health department in New York State. She effectively addressed major challenges including the 2010 H1N1 influenza response, for which she received the BOCES (Board of Cooperative Education Services) Nassau County Council of Superintendents’ Award and the New York State Association of County Health Officials’ Public Health Professional of the Year Award. Her career focus has been to promote longevity and to educate, advocate, and care for the most vulnerable in society.

She is a Long Island Trustee of the Energeia Partnership Class of 2011, and founding board member for Nassau Center for Health Initiatives, a 501c3 non for profit public health institute for the Long Island region. She has an interest in partnering with community organizations to serve an aging and advanced ill population in the region.

Dr. Carney can be reached at 718-470-7270. Tylis Y Chang MD Medical Director, Laboratories, NSUH Vice-Chair, Pathology Informatics Chief Medical Information Officer, Pathology Service Line

Dr Chang joined NSUH and North Shore LIJ in 2014 in the capacity of Medical Director for the NSUH Laboratories, as well as Vice-Chair and CMIO for Pathology. In these roles, Dr Chang was tasked with leading Pathology to better serve patients, clinicians and the health care system by leveraging the existing infrastructure as well as evaluating and implementing new IT technologies that could create value to our customers.

Prior to joining North Shore, Dr. Chang spent 12 years at Montefiore Medical Center in , where he served as the Director of Pathology Informatics as well as the Director of Laboratories at the Weiler Hospital and Montefiore Medical Park overseeing rapid response, transfusion, surgical pathology, oncology, molecular and cytogenetics laboratories. Prior to that, Dr Chang worked as an engineer in Silicon Valley (1998-2001) and was NIH funded at the University of Rochester and University of Pennsylvania; at the latter, he completed his residency and transfusion medicine fellowship training (1993-1998).

In his spare time, Dr. Chang is a Conservation Fellow at the Wildlife Conservation Society where he helped found a mobile molecular infectious disease laboratory. This laboratory travels around the globe to diagnose disease outbreaks and perform disease surveillance in wildlife of conservation interest.

Dr. Jesse Chusid currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Quality and Informatics for the Department of Radiology and as the Associate Medical Director for North Shore University Hospital.

Dr. Chusid earned his Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University Medical College. He completed a radiology residency and served as chief resident at North Shore University Hospital and completed a Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration from the , Stern School of Business.

Dr. Chusid serves as the Chairman of the Imaging Service Line PICG and is a member of the Medical Group Board of Governors and of the Medical Group Quality and HIT subcommittees.

Gene F. Coppa, MD, is senior vice president of surgical services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System, and chairman of surgery at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and LIJ Medical Center. In these roles, he is responsible for developing a strategic plan for surgical services, and facilitating quality improvements in all surgical disciplines across the health system. In addition, he directs program development for the Department of Surgery at NSUH and LIJ, and oversees its surgical residency program.

Dr. Coppa received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science degree from College in Riverdale, NY. He completed his residency at New York University–Bellevue Hospital Department of Surgery. He previously served as vice president for surgical services and chairman of surgery at University Hospital (SIUH). He also was SIUH's program director of both the general surgery residency training program as well as the minimally invasive surgery fellowship.

A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Coppa's areas of surgical expertise include hepatic and biliary tract, pancreatic, colorectal, trauma and bariatric surgery. He is presently the John D. Mountain, MD, professor of surgery. In addition, he is on the American College of Surgeons' New York State faculty and a course director/instructor for advanced trauma life support.

Dr. Coppa is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Fellowship Council in Surgery, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the New York State Society of Surgeons, the American Society of General Surgeons, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Surgeons and the New York Academy of Science. During his extensive career, he has conducted research, authored articles, books and book chapters, and presented and lectured on a variety of surgical topics. Dr. Greben joined the staff of North Shore University Hospital in 1997, after completing Fellowship training in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at The New York Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2001 he was named Division Chief and in 2014 was promoted to Chief of Vascular & Interventional Radiology for the health system. In this role he has helped coordinate and standardize Interventional Radiology care across our healthcare network.

Dr. Greben has been appointed to many hospital and medical school committee assignments, including Radiology PICG; Chair, Radiology Research Advisory Committee; Admissions Committee, Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine; School of Medicine representative, AAMC Council of Faculty and Academic Societies (CFAS); and Board of Governors Managed Care Subcommittee member.

His major clinical and research interests include interventional oncology, endovascular management of complex vascular diseases, and embolic therapies. Dr. Greben mentors medical students and residents on clinical research projects, conducts sponsored research, invented several medical devices, lectures nationally and internationally, and published numerous peer-reviewed original reports. For these achievements he was inducted as a Fellow in the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR) in 2008 and promoted to Associate Professor of Radiology and Surgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine in 2013. He will complete his Masters in Business Administration in 2016.

Dr. Greben can be reached at 516-562-4834. Alan R. Hartman, MD Senior Vice President & Executive Director, Cardiothoracic Services North Shore-LIJ Health System

Dr. Hartman oversees one of New York State’s busiest and most successful cardiothoracic programs. The combined Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery includes North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park, and Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, in Manhattan and Staten Island University Hospital. He is chair and associate professor of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

Recently, the North Shore-LIJ cardiac program was selected by the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute as an exclusive New York area-member of its Cardiovascular Specialty Network which provides cardiac patients with new and enhanced treatment options and greater access to clinical trials.

Dr. Hartman, who joined North Shore-LIJ in 2002 as chairman of cardiothoracic surgery, is also one of New York’s most active open-heart surgeons. He is routinely ranked in New York State Department of Health (DOH) reports on cardiac surgery as having among the state’s best outcomes.

David Hirschwerk, MD has served as Associate Chairman, in the Department of Medicine at NSUH-Manhasset since March, 2014.

Dr. Hirschwerk is an attending physician in the division of infectious diseases at NSUH-Manhasset and LIJ Medical Center. He has served, since 2006, as the chair of the infection control committee at North Shore-Glen Cove. His predominant area of clinical interest is the management of infections in immunocompromised patients. He partners closely with the renal transplant team at NSUH-Manhasset in advising on infection prevention and management protocols.

Dr. Hirschwerk is an assistant professor at the Hofstra University School of Medicine at NS-LIJ. He is the chair of the student advancement committee at the medical school and he leads and facilitates lectures in the infectious diseases and immunology courses that comprise the curriculum.

Dr. Hirschwerk completed his undergraduate education at Brown University and received his Medical Degree at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Hirschwerk completed his internal medicine residency training at Mount Sinai. He remained at Mount Sinai to serve as a chief resident and subsequently completed his Infectious Diseases fellowship at Mount Sinai in 2004. He has been part of the NS-LIJ system since that time.

Dr. Hirschwerk can be reached at 516- 562-4280. Jeffrey Katz, MD Chief of Neurovascular in the Dept of Neurology; Director of the Stroke Center and Stroke Unit at North Shore University Hospital

Jeffrey M. Katz, MD joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 2006 and is the Chief of Neurovascular Services in the Department of Neurology, and Director of the Stroke Center and Stroke Unit at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and the Director of the North Shore-LIJ Health System TeleStroke Program. Dr. Katz specializes in cerebrovascular disease and endovascular surgery. Working with colleagues, the stroke center's comprehensive treatment has expanded to include intra-arterial thrombolysis and mechanical embolectomy for acute stroke therapy. Under his directorship, NSUH received Joint Commission disease specific certification in stroke in 2008 and recertification in 2010 and 2012.

In a synchronized effort between the Health System’s Stroke Task Force and the Center for Emergency Medical Services, Dr. Katz was integral in the development of the Health System’s Stroke Rescue Program, which coordinates emergency transfers of stroke patients from neighboring Health System and non-system to NSUH for comprehensive acute stroke care. He and colleagues are currently creating the North Shore-LIJ Health System TeleStroke Program.

Dr. Katz received his MD from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Katz then went on to complete fellowship training at Cornell in stroke, neurointensive care and interventional neuroradiology and is board certified in Neurology and Vascular Neurology.

Dr. Katz is a member of several professional societies, including the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery, the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, the American Heart Association, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the Interventional Section of the AAN. Dr. Katz has published numerous chapters and peer-reviewed articles and is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. He is also a member of many hospital and Health System committees and sits on the New York State Department of Health Stroke Advisory Committee.

Dr. Thomas Mauri serves as Vice Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery for both North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, as well as Vice President of the Orthopaedic Service Line for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. He has been intimately involved in the North Shore University Hospital Medical Staff Society for many years, serving as President in 2002-2003. He was appointed as a trustee of the NSLIJ Health System and served in that role from 2004 until 2007 until he was made Associate Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery for North Shore and LIJ that year. He has been Chief of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at North Shore University Hospital since 1999.

Dr. Mauri graduated with a BS/MD degree from the 6 year combined biomedical program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute/Albany Medical College in 1980, then trained 1 year each at North Shore University Hospital in general surgery and neurosurgery, before entering orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, finishing in 1985. He went on to Spine Surgery fellowship at the prestigious Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, then entered private practice as an attending spine surgeon at North Shore in 1986. Dr. Mauri has been co-chair of the Peri-operative Committee at North Shore for over 10 years and has served on the Medical Board for many years as well. He is an active member of the Health System Committee on Quality and Surgical PICG.

Nationally, Dr. Mauri has been a long-standing member of the North American Spine Society, where he serves as Co-Chair for the Patient Safety Committee. He has also participated in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Patient Safety Ad Hoc council. He has made podium presentations at the Scoliosis Research Society and the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. He is an Assistant Professor at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and was a founding member of the Admissions Committee, and continues to serve as an extended interviewer for the medical school.

Dr. Narayan serves as Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Neurosurgery Service Line at the North Shore- LIJ System. Dr. Narayan oversees all neurosurgery programs within the North Shore-LIJ Health System, including 18 full- time neurosurgeons and more than 30 voluntary neurosurgeons at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center. As director of the Cushing Neuroscience Institute, he has responsibility for all the neurosurgical and neurological institutes and programs within the health system. Dr. Narayan is chair and professor of neurosurgery at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

Dr. Narayan came to North Shore-LIJ from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and The Mayfield Clinic, where he was the Frank H. Mayfield Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery. Prior to that, he was chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. Dr. Narayan also served on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. A diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Narayan’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The Society of Neurological Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Narayan’s research interests include head injury and brain tumors. He has published more than 110 papers and over 50 book chapters, as well as co-edited a noted textbook, Neurotrauma. He also helped develop the national Traumatic Brain Injury Management Guidelines.

Dr. Narayan has held more than 60 visiting professorships and honored lectureships in several countries. He is a recipient of the Brain Injury Association’s William Fields Caveness Award given in recognition of contributions to the field of neurosurgery. In addition, he has been listed multiple times in Best Doctors in America. Dr. Narayan received his medical degree from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA, and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Michael Nimaroff is the Executive Vice Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Additionally, he is the Director of the AAGL accredited Fellowship Program in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital, and Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

Over the past two decades his practice has evolved from general obstetrics and gynecology to a subspecialty practice focused on gynecologic surgery. Dr. Nimaroff offers his patients the full range of minimally invasive surgical procedures and treatment alternatives, and uses a multidisciplinary and individualized treatment approach utilizing both surgical and non-surgical methods. In 2005, Dr. Nimaroff established one of the first gynecologic robotic surgical programs in the New York metropolitan area and has been actively involved in the development of single port surgical techniques in gynecology. Dr. Nimaroff is committed to exceptional patient care through research, education and clinical experience.

Dr. Mathew Foley currently serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Emergency Medicine Department at North Shore University Hospital.

Dr. Foley earned his Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University, his Masters of Science from Columbia University and his Doctor of Medicine from The George Washington University. He completed an emergency medicine internship and residency and served as chief resident at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital. He subsequently attended the Managing Health Care Delivery Credential Program at Harvard Business School.

Dr. Foley serves as Councilmember: ACEP Council, NY delegation, is a volunteer physician at the Free Clinic and is a member of the Government Affairs Committee for New York ACEP.

Dr. Rochelson serves as Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (High Risk Pregnancies) for the North Shore LIJ Health System. He is also the Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore University Hospital. He is the Co-Director of the Regional Perinatal Center at North Shore, which is responsible for education, performance improvement and transport of high risk mothers and babies from System community hospitals to the tertiary care center at North Shore University Hospital.

In his role as Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program at the Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine, Dr. Rochelson supervises the training of, and is mentor to, physicians training in the care of women with high risk pregnancies. Active in both clinical and translational research, Dr. Rochelson has authored or co-authored over 70 peer reviewed publications, and his research has been presented at over 75 national and international conferences. He is internationally known for his work in abnormal blood flow in the fetus in complicated pregnancies.

Dr. Rochelson maintains an active clinical practice, specializing in consultation, prenatal diagnosis and care of women with high risk pregnancies.

A graduate of Columbia College and the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Dr. Rochelson then pursued a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and completed a Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook/Winthrop University Hospital.

Inderjit Singh, MD has served as Associate Chairman, Combined Department of Psychiatry, Long Island Jewish Medical Center/North Shore University Hospital since March 2014. In this role, he has been involved in various departmental activities and has provided oversight for the psychiatric services at North Shore University Hospital.

Dr. Singh assumed the role of Associate Vice President, Clinical Operations, NSLIJ Behavioral Health Service Line in July 2014. In this role he is responsible for standardizing and improving the quality of psychiatric care at all North Shore LIJ hospitals, including developing systems to ensure the highest level of care and standardizing policies and processes across the service line. Dr. Singh is also the Medical Director for Behavioral Health at the North Shore LIJ Care Connect Insurance Company.

Prior to joining the North Shore LIJ Health System, Dr. Singh worked for the New York State Office of Mental Health from 1985 to 2014. Dr. Singh served in multiple administrative roles from 2000 to 2014 and was the Clinical Director at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center from 2008 to 2014. He has also served on the OMH Clinical Outcomes Review Committee, which reviews adverse outcomes at OMH licensed programs in New York State. Dr. Singh is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Spinazzola serves as North Shore University Hospital’s Director of Neonatal Services and oversees the delivery of patient care, and safety issues for the infants admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Katz Women’s Hospital at North Shore. Dr. Spinazzola came to North Shore-LIJ from Babies Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where she completed her fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine. She is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Hofstra-NS-LIJ School of Medicine. A clinical expert in the care of critically ill neonates, she also serves as the neonatology director for the regional perinatal center at North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Spinazzola serves on numerous hospital committees and has been instrumental in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives to further breast feeding, safe sleep and reduction in long term morbidity in both the NICU and nursery populations. She is an active participant in the Neonatal Service line collaboratives.

Dr. Spinazzola’s primary focus is neonatal outcomes research and she has also had career interests in multiple gestations and neonatal ethics.

Dr. Spinazzola is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, The AAP Committee on the Fetus and newborn, AAP section on breastfeeding medicine and section on perinatal medicine. She received a bachelor’s degree from the City university of New York at Brooklyn College, and a medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her residency in pediatrics at NYU-Bellevue.

Sherry Shariatmadar, M.D. is the Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis Services at North Shore University Hospital and Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Zucker School of Medicine. Dr. Shariatmadar also chairs NSUH Transfusion Committee.

Prior to joining NSUH, Dr Shariatmadar was the Director of the Transfusion Medicine Service, Director of the Stem Cell Processing Laboratory, Director of the Apheresis Service, Founder and Director of the Stem Cell Collection Center and Founder and Director of the Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and UHealth Lab Systems. She was also Clinical Associate Professor at University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Shariatmadar received her bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University and graduated with honors from Ross University School of Medicine. She trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center where she was chief resident with subsequent subspecialty training in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine at the New York Blood Center. Dr. Shariatmadar is board certified in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.

She is also an award winning teacher and an established scholar, including the performance of extramurally funded research and clinical trials in the areas of solid organ transplantation, transfusion medicine and apheresis.

Dr. Pacia serves as the Vice Chairman of Neurology at North Shore University Hospital and Director of Neurology for Northwell Health, eastern region. Joining Northwell Health in August of 2017, Dr. Pacia brings with him 25 years of experience as a neurologist and epilepsy specialist. Before joining Northwell, Dr. Pacia served as Associate Professor of Neurology at the NYU School of Medicine where he also directed the EEG Laboratory, the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship and the Epilepsy Surgery Program.

During his tenure at NYU, he was appointed Director of Neurology at Lenox Hill Hospital, from 2004 until 2016, where he also directed the Lenox Hill EEG laboratory and Epilepsy Program.

Dr. Pacia received his Medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed Neurology Residency and Fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine where he was awarded the Gilbert Glaser fellowship and the Victor Horsley, Epilepsy Foundation of America, Research Fellowship Grant. Dr. Pacia is Board Certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Dr. Pacia has been awarded a number of grants to support his research and was the principal site investigator for the first multicenter NIH-funded study of epilepsy surgery. He has authored many Peer-reviewed articles on the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and co-authors the book "Alternative Therapies For Epilepsy," which provides an evidence-based review of complementary and alternative therapies for care of the epilepsy patient. Dr. Pacia' s clinical care contributions have been recognized by Castle Connolly's Top Doctors, Super Doctors and New York Magazine's Best Doctors.

Dr. Garg is Professor and Founding Chairman for the Department of Dermatology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell, Professor in the Center for Health Innovations and Outcomes Research at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and the Senior Vice President of the Dermatology Service Line at Northwell Health. He is board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. He has held full-time faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and at the Boston University School of Medicine, where he directed the Residency Training Program in Dermatology as well as the curriculum in dermatology for the school of medicine.

Dr. Garg has achieved international recognition as a thought leader in medical dermatology and as a medical educator. His subspecialty expertise is interdisciplinary based in caring for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions including psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, lupus, dermatomyositis, and vasculitis.

Dr. Garg's research interests include developing measurement instruments and assessing clinical and patient centered outcomes in psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. He has made several key epidemiologic observations related to disease burden and co- morbidities in hidradenitis suppurativa. Dr. Garg has also developed innovative teaching strategies to improve training and education outcomes. His past research focused on improving teaching and assessment methods in undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as narrowing the practice gaps related to the skin cancer examination through increasing awareness of high risk patient groups, promoting integration of the skin cancer exam into the routine or focused physical exam, and enabling detection of suspicious pigmented lesions.

Dr. Garg has held leadership roles within prominent national professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Board of Dermatology, the Association of Professors of Dermatology, the Medical Dermatological Society, the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation, the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis, and the International Dermatology Outcome Measures group. He is a member of Dermatology's Residency Review Committee of Accreditation Counsel of Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Garg has served on editorial boards for journals as well as American Academy of Dermatology based publications. He is also the editor-in-chief of the forthcoming first edition book on Rheumatic Skin Diseases. He has published a number of articles in the peer- reviewed literature and has authored several book chapters. Dr. Garg has been awarded the 2016 Thomas G. Pearson, EdD Memorial Education Award by the American Academy of Dermatology.

David M. Hoenig, MD is the Chief of Urology at NSUH, and Professor in the Smith Institute for Urology. He is a specialist in kidney stone treatment and minimally invasive surgery. His specific clinical interests include all aspects of kidney stone disease, from surgical treatment, to medical management, to prevention.

Dr. Hoenig completed medical school at the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY), and residency in Urology at Brown University (Providence, RI). He went on to become one of the premier Laparoscopy and Endourology Fellowships in the country, under Dr. Ralph V. Clayman, one of the pioneers of minimally invasive urologic surgery, at Washington University (St. Louis, MO).

After Fellowship training, Dr. Hoenig became a Clinical Instructor at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann under the auspices of Allegheny University, and was then recruited to Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine to become the Director of Laparoscopy and Endourology and promoted to Assistant Professor. While at Montefiore, Dr. Hoenig assumed many administrative roles, such as co-founder and co-Director of the Robotic, Laparoscopy, and Endourology Fellowship, and Residency Program Director. After more than 14 years at Montefiore/Albert Einstein, he was recruited to Northwell Health in 2013 with a promotion to Professor, and a shift of administrative roles to Chief of Urology at NSUH.

Dr. Hoenig's research interests are in all phases of minimally invasive urologic surgery, with particular attention to kidney stone disease, and both ablative and reconstructive minimally invasive renal surgery. His most recent publications explore the association of obesity with kidney stones, and exploring frailty metrics as a tool for decreasing patient surgical risks.

As a clinician, Dr. Hoenig's priority is treating patients with respect and empathy. He believes strongly in educating patients about their conditions, so as to equip them with the necessary information to make them a partner in their health care.

Dr. Ronald Burakoff is Chairman of the Department of Dental Medicine at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJMC). He is the founding Chair and Professor of the Department of Dental Medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. He is also the Chair of the Appointments & Promotions Committee of the new school of medicine. Dr. Burakoff came to NSLIJ from the Long Island College Hospital where he was Chair of the Department of Dental Medicine. He received a BS in Science from McGill University in 1969, a DMD from Tufts University in 1973 and his MPH from the University of North Carolina in 1974.

From 1974 to 1982 he served in the United States Public Health Service. He is a Clinical Professor at NYU College of Dentistry and was a Clinical Associate Professor at Columbia School of Dental & Oral Surgery.

In 1987 Dr. Burakoff became a Diplomate of the American Board of Public Health Dentistry. He is a member of various professional organizations including the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association of Hospital Dentists (AAHD). He served as a regional vice president of AAHD from 1994-1996.

Dr. Burakoff has served as the Project Director of over one million dollars of sponsored research for health manpower training and service grants from state and federal governmental agencies.

Richard E. Braunstein, MD graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University and received fellowship training in cornea and external disease at The Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore. In 1994, he joined the faculty at Columbia University, where he built a practice specializing in refractive surgery, corneal disease, cataract surgery and lens implant complications. During his tenure at Columbia, Dr. Braunstein was the Miranda Wong Tang Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and served as residency and cornea fellowship training program director, chief of anterior segment and refractive surgery, and vice chair of clinical services.

He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New York State Ophthalmological Society.

In his current role, Dr. Braunstein oversees the daily operations of Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH) and is responsible for developing the strategic plan for Northwell Health’s ophthalmology services. He is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and also serves as interim chair of Ophthalmology at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Dr. Jauhar currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital and the Chief of Cardiology for North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset.

Dr. Jauhar went to College at the University of California, Riverside where he majored in honors in biochemistry. For medical school, he went to the University of Chicago, Pritzker where he developed his interest in cardiology and clinical research. He returned to the “Golden State” to do his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Diego. While at UCSD, he spent 2 years conducting research on the molecular pathogenesis of viral myocarditis using advanced molecular biology techniques. His training continued at New York Hospital-Cornell where he completed his cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship from 1995-1999.

Dr. Jauhar joined the Northwell Health System in 2001 and has been active in clinical research with interests in heart disease among South Asians. He has published on the role of coronary artery size as a risk factor for heart disease. He continues to play an active role in educating the South Asian Community on the risk of heart disease with several TV and radio appearances along with several seminars.

Dr. Jauhar is active with teaching at Hofstra Medical School and gives lecture for the “homeostasis” course as well as having students and fellows on the cardiology rotation.
