Abstract: Historic school buildings were built during the end of the 19th century and into the beginning of the 20th century, using the traditional and locally available building materials and techniques, and most of them still function as schools. Because of the requirements arising from their constant use, there is an intense interest in their structural and energy integration, while there is limited research on the tangible and intangible values they encompass. In this study, an effort has been made to assess the historical, architectural, constructional and structural aspects of a historic school building located in the town of Arnaia, in the mountainous part of Chalkidiki peninsula, Northern Greece. The study included on-site inspection, architectural overview, determination and mapping of the constructional materials and techniques applied, as well as investigation of the preservation state of the building. Additionally, a structural analysis of the system was performed through a three-dimensional finite element model. All research data was comparatively evaluated, in order to identify the principles governing its physiognomy and structure.

TO PETER SOMMER TR AVELS Writing this in autumn 2020, it is hard to know quite where to begin. I usually review the season just gone, the new tours that we ran, the preparatory recces we made, the new tours we are unveiling for the next year, the feedback we have received and our exciting plans for the future. However, as you well know, this year has been unlike any other in our collective memory. Our exciting plans for 2020 were thrown into disarray, just like many of yours. We were so disappointed that so many of you were unable to travel with us in 2020. Our greatest pleasure is to share the destinations we have grown to love so deeply with you our wonderful guests. I had the pleasure and privilege of speaking with many of you personally during the 2020 season. I was warmed and touched by your support, your understanding, your patience, and your generosity. All of us here at PST are extremely grateful and heartened by your enthusiasm and eagerness to travel with us when it becomes possible. PST is a small, flexible, and dynamic company. We have weathered countless downturns during the many years we have been operating. Elin, my wife, and I have always reinvested in the business with long term goals and are very used to surviving all manner of curve balls, although COVID-19 is certainly the biggest we have yet faced.

Eagles Palace Excursions Proposals The last prong of Halkidiki (Athos Peninsula) is the most beautiful of all three. Civilization has not intruded into the Holy Mountain, which is in- habited solely by monks. MOUNT ATHOS REPUBLIC The last prong of Halkidiki (Athos Peninsula) is the most beautiful of all three. Civilization has not intruded into the Holy Mountain, which is inhabited solely by monks. This magnificent peninsula has been the sole province of men dedicated to the worship of God and the Virgin for well over a thousand years. Nowadays the number of functioning monasteries has dwindled to 20 with a population of approximately 1,700 brethren. Sur- rounded by an incalculable wealth of ecclesiastical treasure, rare icons and libraries stocked with precious manuscripts, they live simply according to a strict regime of prayer and labor untouched by modern frivolities. Athos, a monument of international cultural heritage, is not only a real museum of the Byzantine art, but a living center or the Christian Orthodox religion. More and more people are visiting “Agion Oros” for spiritual, religious and scientific interests. Since women are not allowed in (due to tradition), and even men need special permission to enter, an easy way to admire and experience Athos, is by taking a day boat cruise along the coast from Eagles Palace. DAILY CRUISE WITH THE HOTELS MOTOR SAILING BOAT The hotels sailing boat can be hired privately and make daily trips like: * a cruise along the coast of the unique Mount Athos republic. This will give you the opportunity to admire a lot of the famous monasteries of Mount Athos or * a day cruise to the near Robinson island and the beautiful island of Ammouliani with a stop to visit the village of Ammouliani and / or to swim in the very clear waters of Karagatsi bay or * a daily cruise to the second finger of Halkidiki peninsula and the small enchanting island Vourvourou can also be arranged.

  • Location Planning of Fire Service Fleet Based on Forest Fire Susceptibility
Stavros Sakellariou, WSEAS TRANSACTIONS on ENVIRONMENT and DEVELOPMENT Athanassios Sfougaris, DOI: 10.37394/232015.2020.16.66 Olga Christopoulou Location Planning of Fire Service Fleet Based on Forest Fire Susceptibility STAVROS SAKELLARIOU1,2, ATHANASSIOS SFOUGARIS1, AND OLGA CHRISTOPOULOU2 1 Department of Agriculture Crop Production and Rural Environment, University of Thessaly, 38446 Volos, GREECE 2 Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly, 38334, Volos, GREECE Abstract: - Forest fires constitute one of the greatest risks for certain ecosystems services. Hence, the location planning of firefighting units based on forest fire hazard is a key point for the immediate containment of fire incidents before they become uncontrollable. The primary aim of the paper is the estimation and finding of the required number and positions (i.e. the exact geographical locations and the respective type of installation – fire hydrant etc.) of fire fleet to fully cover (in terms of travel time) the districts of fire services in Chalkidiki (Greece), taking into account the scalable fire susceptibility. The proposed location plans revealed the fact that most of the regions may adequately respond to the fire vulnerability with the current forces, whereas a few regions clearly need a reinforcement in order to sufficiently cover their territories. A future perspective may be related with the exploration of best locations through the entire study area, merging the current administrative boundaries. One more asset of the project constitutes the flexibility and applicability of the sub-modules to other geographic regions after the necessary adjustments to local conditions. Key-Words: - forest fires; fire susceptibility; location planning; Chalkidiki, Greece Received: July 13, 2020.
