We'll have a rest day in the French mountain cuisine served by our hotels middle to give you a chance to recover. and nearby local restaurants. At a glance Trip dates: June 21-30, 2019 Cycling distance / vertical: 410 miles / 49,000 ft Small group: maximum 16 guests Supported rides with experienced owners Carolyn and Pieter with you on the road Hotel accommodation with all breakfasts and dinners included Price: $2,995 per person, single room surcharge: $695 Itinerary and Elevation Profiles Friday 21 June: Departure from the US on an overnight flight to Geneva. Saturday 22 June: Arrival in Geneva and group transfer to Annecy. In the afternoon you can put your bike together and go for a quick ride. Sunday 23 June: Col de la Colombiere (distance: 76 mi, vertical: 7,200 ft) We start out with a few smaller climbs on a quiet side road through Alpine villages. After a welcome flat section in the middle of the ride we hit our first famous climb of our tour: the Col de la Colombiere. It is a tough one with a deceivingly steep section before the summit. From there it is almost all down back to our hotel in Annecy. Monday 24 June: Col de la Madeleine (76 mi, 7,500 ft) Only one climb today, but it is a 17 mile long monster! The Col de la Madeleine is a true 'beyond category' climb of Tour de France fame. We'll ride to the foot of the climb along Lake Annecy and the fabulous bike path through the valley. Tonight we'll be staying in St Jean de Maurienne. Tuesday 25 June: Col du Telegraphe and Col du Galibier (61 mi, 9,000 ft) Our 'queen stage' over the infamous Telegraphe and Galibier double climb. The summit of Galibier is the highest point of our tour and one of the highest paved Alpine passes at 8,678'. An enormous descent brings us to Le Bourg d'Oisans where we'll spend the next three nights. Itinerary and Elevation Profiles (Continued) Wednesday 26 June: Rest Day Time to recover! There is no scheduled ride today and you can spend the day as you wish. Thursday 27 June: L'Alpe d'Huez and Col de Sarenne (43 mi, 8,000 ft) On the menu today is the mythical climb of L'Alpe d'Huez followed by the Col de Sarenne. The descent of Sarenne is very technical. Make sure to stop a few times to take in the breathtaking scenery! We return to Bourg via a spectacular 'balcony road' high above the valley. Friday 28 June: Col du Glandon and Col de Tamie (76 mi, 8,800 ft) A long day today with another 'beyond category' climb: the Col du Glandon. This is followed by an easier section through the valley before the relatively easy Col de Tamie at the end of the ride. Saturday 29 June: Col de l'Arpettaz, Aravis and Col de Croix Fry (58 mi, 8,500 ft) The remote Col de l'Arpettaz is our biggest climb of the day. We're rewarded with great views and a mountain restaurant at the top. Then we'll head back to Annecy via the easier Col des Aravis and Croix Fry climbs. Once back, you'll have time to pack your bike before a celebratory dinner. Sunday 30 June: Flight home Time to fly home! Our private bus will take us to Geneva airport early in the morning. Our package includes: - Group bus transfer from/to Geneva Airport for you, your luggage and your bike - Support vehicle during the rides and experienced tour guides on bikes - 8 nights of hotel accommodation - All breakfasts and dinners - Water, snacks and fruit on the rides - Laminated stage sheets with ride details and altitude profiles - GPS files of all rides - Lots of fun! BikePlusTours was born out of a desire to share our love for cycling on the great mountain roads of Europe with our guests. We have been organizing group cycling trips since 2002 and we feel very lucky that our hobby has become our profession. Pieter has been a cyclist all his life. He has competed in junior and elite races in his native Netherlands as well as in Belgium, Germany and the USA. Although more of a classics rider than a climber, Pieter has had a passion for cycling in the mountains ever since riding up Passo dello Stelvio at age 16. Carolyn has had a lot of success as a triathlete. She was a sponsored athlete for seven years and has won races in every distance from sprint to Ironman.
