March 9, 2012 6:44 pm

We are pleased to announce a new Web Applications Development certificate for Computer & Network Security (CN&S) majors. The internet is generally the medium used for attacks that exploit the security vulnerabilities in computer and network systems. So, a certificate in Web Applications Development is a natural fit for CN&S majors. The 15-credit certificate includes the sequence of five courses necessary to design and build advanced web applications. CN&S majors can use their technology elective and free electives to complete the certificate within their current course requirements. Here is the five-course sequence to get an additional certificate with your CN&S degree:

The team of Students Participate in students had submitted a game to be entered into the Independent Game Festival (IGF). The IGF is an event where 48-Hour Film Festival over 300 educational institutions compete to be selected for a finalist position, with a winner being selected and announced January 31, 2012 7:04 pm at GDC.

The students will get a chance to attend tutorials, summits and presentations from the world’s top industry professionals. Also, just by attending the expo portion of the event they can talk with perspective employers, game development gurus, and other students in the field of Game Design and Development.

New technology and techniques will also be explored so that our students can come back and share what they experienced at the conference. Scott Shaw, faculty member in the Game Design and Development Program, will also be attending the event. Although our students did not qualify for the final selection (only 6 out of the 300 made it), this was a victory for our GDD Program by even submitting a title for consideration from a program less than two years old. Not deterred from this minor set back, they have already started working on their entry for next year’s event.

CoT Welcomes Nancy McDonald as Chair of ISM and WIS!

October 4, 2011 7:55 pm

In August, Nancy McDonald was selected as the new Chair of the Information Systems Management and the Web Information Systems programs within the College of Technology.

Nancy has been an adjunct professor with our College for several years and was formerly with DuPont and Accenture serving as an information technology executive. Mark Hufe, who previously coordinated the Web Information Systems program, will concentrate exclusively on the Computer & Network Security program because that program is growing so rapidly. Nancy comments, “After working as an adjunct faculty member since 2006, I am delighted to be part of the College of Technology full

17 time. I participated in the recent revisions to the Information Systems Management (ISM) program, and I look forward to revitalizing the Web Information Systems (WIS) program. One new area we are investigating for the WIS program is the addition of elective courses in the design and development of apps for Android phones and the Apple iPhone.”
