Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

Whitsell Auditorium, inside the Portland Art Museum

Ai Weiwei is China's most famous international artist, and its most outspoken domestic critic. To muzzle his provocations, Chinese authorities have curtailed his internet access, beat him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention. Journalist Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai for the 2012 documentary Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, the inside story of a defiant, digital-age dissident who inspires global audiences and blurs the boundaries of art and politics.

Ai Weiwei films are free for Portland Art Museum members. Just come to the show and sign in at the door! Non members must reserve tickets at the Museum box office.

Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case

Whitsell Auditorium, inside the Portland Art Museum

Andreas Johnsen's 2013 documentary Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case reveals the artist after his parole and battle with a thwarting suit for tax evasion: a lawsuit that he dubs "the Fake Case." But the troubles with his enemies only continue to provide inspiration for making new art, the only outlet to vent his frustration.

Ai Weiwei films are free for Portland Art Museum members. Just come to the show and sign in at the door! Non members must reserve tickets at the Museum box office.

Ai Weiwei's Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads is on view in the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Sculpture Court of the Portland Art Museum through September 13th. RECOMMENDED
