Program Descriptions 1. CABOCHON MAKING - 40 Slides Showing the basic steps and the beginning methods of cutting a cabochon. Several types of machinery are pictured to aid the beginner in choosing what is best for him. The program is a Discussion maker and time should be allowed for the experienced lapidary to pass along a few tips after the showing. It is a 30 minute program, but interested comments from viewers will add to this. from rock to slab to polished cabochon. Prepared in 1977 by Lapidary Al Dalen and photographer Charles Ramer. 2. INVESTMENT CASTING & MODEL MAKING - 103 Slides Describes the items needed to do investment casting. Beginning with model or pattern complete instructions follow through to the finished product. Beautiful pieces produced by this method are shown. By David Munford. 3. INTRODUCTION TO FACETING - 65 Slides Very informative program to promote the art of faceting. The first day issued of Mineral Heritage Stamps in June 1974; at Lincoln, Nebraska. Mineral stamps of other countries and minerals worthy of this honor are shown. 30. TREASURES OF TUTANKHAMEN - 40 Slides Beautiful and representative objects from the tomb of the boy-king, Tutankhamen (1334-1325 BC) including statuettes, masks, richly inlaid with jewels, and funerary jewelry and furniture. 31. Includes a 30 minute cassette tape. 34. WILDACRES WORKSHOP 1977 - 67 Slides DELETED Picturing people, places and participation in SFMS’ first workshop at Wildacres, NC. Having someone comment who attended will enrich this program. 35. SOME COMMON ROCKS & MINERALS & SOME UNCOMMON CRYSTALS -70 Slides Thirty-three slides from the American Museum of Natural History, New York, showing the great variety of appearance and structure exhibited by the rocks and minerals of the earth. Instructive and informative. Additional slides from the Smithsonian Institute and Ward’s Science establishment show unusual crystals of the world. Rare, some finished, some uncut, one of a kind occurrence. 36. WILDACRES WORKSHOP 1978 - 92 Slides DELETED The two workshops of 1978 are combined to make an overall picture of fun, relaxation, learning, teaching and sharing that takes place in the space of one short week of each session. The dedication of the officers of the federation is clearly shown by their attendance and participation in each Wildacres Workshop. 37. POMPEII, AD 79 - 111 Slides The whole culture of Pompeii was “rock’ based and “rock” destroyed. The arts which were recovered reveal their dependence on materials dug and quarried from the earth. The pigments of their paintings applied on their stone walls; the stone for their statuary; the clay for their dishes; and the very makeup of their stone houses; couches; walls and streets become part of this presentation. This presentation of the abrupt arrest of life in Pompeii in AD 79 was arranged by the Italian Government on loan to the United States. 38. SILVER SOLDERING, QUICK & EASY METHOD - 62 Slides Written by 0. K Bell, the program explains the method used in his classes at Wildacres Workshops.
